I was super excited to see an SPF 30 broad spectrum lip balm for $5 Canadian. Unfortunately it did not remotely meet my requirements. This lip balm is super soft, even at room temperature. I am certain it would completely liquify if you put it in the pocket of your jeans, which is usually where I keep my lip balm. The banana scent and taste reminds me of the numbing agent the dentist used before injecting local anaesthetic when I was a kid. The lip balm really does smell like a product aimed at children and the odour is strong and takes a long time to dissipate. For example, when I used , my husband came into the room 5 minutes after I applied it and asked about the scent from almost 2 metres away. It tastes nice too. While I don't want a lip balm to have a nasty taste, I also don't want one that I subconsciously lick off, making me reapply constantly and also drying out my ips from the enzymes present in saliva. I did manage to avoid licking my lips long enough to discover that I needed to reapply after 20 minutes. While I do live in a very dry area, my lip balm will usually last indoors in the summer until I eat or drink something, say 6 hours minimum. Given the texture, I haven't bothered testing under lipstick. #hardfail #lipbalm #spf

I have used Sun Bum spf lip balm for years and while I agree that it's not the most delicious-tasting lip product out there, it does what it's supposed to do - protect your lips from the sun's damaging rays. I've tried quite a few flavors and decided that Banana is IMO the best tasting option. I'm okay with the very slight spf taste because that's what I use this for - it's skincare, not makeup. I use this religiously at the pool & beach and have never had an issue with my lips burning, tanning, flaking, chapping, etc. How you feel about this product depends on your expectations- if you're looking for something to protect your lips, it works well; if you're looking for primarily lip balm that has an added perk of spf protection, you may be disappointed. I grabbed 2 flavors of this & really wanted to like it. I had high hopes bc sunbum has such a wonder line of products!Don't waste your money! I just happen to see the supergoop & grabbed it on a whim bc of the oval design. I thought it would go on easier bc of the design & wanted to try it. So glad I did!The sunbum ones are so runny! They absorb extremely quickly & leave you with very dry lips! I was constantly reapplying, what a waste!I ended up use them super fast & wishing I had grabbed the supergoop one instead that day. This product is just a waste of money & dries your lips out on top of it's absolute uselessness!

Lots of drawbacks
19 August 2023

I was super excited about an spf 30 for the lips and I like sun bum. But this was disappointing. The balm is too oily and can melt just in the tube. It is super oily on the lips and very easily gets into your mouth and tastes horrible, like chemicals (smells nice though). I have to be very careful about applying a small amount so it minimizes the chance of getting it in my mouth. However, it still manages to do the job, I didn't have sunburned lips after wearing it outside for a few hours. However, I am probably going to look for a different lip sunscreen unless they change the formula.

Meh

It doesn't last at all. When the name says "balm," think of it as the consistency of a makeup removing balm. It instantly melts and can rinse right off, nothing left, and not hydrating. My lips feel more dry, maybe from the chemicals. I wanted the spf factor, but I don't know if it really even protects that way because it's gone from the lips so quickly. I suppose since it's chemical sunscreens maybe they absorb in? I do wear this when going out for a walk, but always put something heavier and more moisturizing over top just hoping my lips don't get burned. If I were you, I would get something else. I won't buy again.

Not good
15 June 2024

The flavors are nice, but the product is overall greasy and unpleasant. I bought the watermelon and banana flavors years ago and remember enjoying them, but after purchasing more recent flavors I found that many of them give you a foul taste when the product inevitably moves into your mouth. Especially after being outside, which this product is supposed to be used for, I find that the flavor will travel to the back of my throat and turn sour. Not pleasant.

Painful dry bumps
7 July 2023

I was super excited to find spf lip balm so I ordered several flavors. I waited too long to get my refund or i would return them all. They went on smooth at first but it just diappears very quickly and i had to reapply Often. I thought i didn't apply enough at the beach because i has red inflamed lips by the end of the day. I used it again a couple days later trying to rehyrate my lips from the beach trip. I was in a movie theatre and by the end of the movie my lips were red and swollen and burning. I have pain and lots of small red bumps that feel dry but look like blisters. It's awful i have never had this happen to before with any cosmetic or spf. I might have to see a doctor due to the severe and prolonged allergic response!

Tasty 😋
24 April 2024

Smells so good, it has a super slick feel to it on your lips, great price point. It also tastes amazing if you happen to get any in your mouth and it also keeps your lips tasting so good even after the product has worn off which is my favorite thing about this balm. I think this product is great! IMO it's not super hydrating but I buy this for SPF purposes. 😀

What lip balm? Not this.
27 August 2023

I bought this because i was on vacation and left my regular balm at home. All of the Ulta employees suggested this. I low key am mad the suggeste dit at all. I'm not sure about how well it protects because this stuff has the consistency of oil. It slicks on but doesnt moisturize at all. In fact, when I wear this, my lips are DRIER. And i'm not sure how well the SPF works if it wears off when I talk. The only reason i gave this two stars instead of one is because it plays well with others. If i layer a moisturizing lip serum underneath eith a matte lip color on top, it's not terrible.

not a fan
22 June 2024

not a fan of watery consistency. doesnt soak into lips, melty, doesnt stay put - melts onto chin, tastes good but causes me to lick lips more - in turn, I need to apply constantly. doesnt actually moisturize - at best its protective - if you dont lick it off compulsively like I do LOLpros: it tastes good (which is also a con as stated above). thats it. 🥲
