I bought this a few months ago to wear while working (archaeology field technician) and I've been meaning to write a review but today really earned it! While I wish it came in a size smaller and the ventilation could be better, this hat does exactly what I need it to! The back covers my neck while allowing a breeze through on hot days, the brim doesn't flap in even strong winds, and when I need to take it off it fits in even my tiny lady pockets! My favorite thing is the sunglasses holder system. That was the selling point for this hat in particular, and today it came in clutch! A thunderstorm blew in FAST and we had to scramble down off a mountainside and sprint a kilometer across open sagebrush to get back to the cars. I forgot my sunglasses were on my hat and ... I realized when I got back to the car, and my glasses were still on my hat, locked in right where they should be! They were definitely jostled around, as it was uneven footing and I had a large pack bouncing around as I ran, so the sunglasses lockers really work wonders! Thanks for this amazing hat!

I hate hats, always have. But living at high altitude and being fluorescently pale means I need a hat for 14ers and cafes and everything in between..This hat works well and the back doesn't hit your neck so you stay cooler. It folds in half to easily fit into a backpack. It wicks sweat well. You can fit a thin warm hat or earband underneath in the winter. It does not interfere with vision. This thing gets grimey but is easy to wash, doesn't hold stains. Also great for keeping rain off of you..That said, I still hate hats. But it gets the job done.

I've purchased this hat and a number of of others and I've yet to find what I feel is a well functioning sun hat. I do like the two piece brim on this Ultra Adventure hat because it stays put when kayaking in to the wind and doesn't flop upward like the brim on so many other hats do.I wish that the rear neck cape could be tucked away. I bought a sun hat at Walmart for $10. that had that feature. There was a hardly noticeable pocket on the rear brim where the neck cape could be tucked away which I though was very handy. On this hat I try and tuck the neck cape up behind the tensioning strap when I don't need it and want to feel the breeze. The Ultra Adventure hat has vent panels at the top of the dome but they are not very efficient at all in my humble opinion. The way this hat is shaped it conforms to the shape of my head and sits down on my scalp. In order for air to flow though the vents the dome of the hat needs to sit a bit above the top of your head. Otherwise it's like having a window open with a brick wall next to it. There's no air flow through the vents if there is no space for the air to flow through. Also the vent panels themselves are not a very open design, the fabric is like a fine mesh like ladies stockings as opposed to a more open screen like material with perforations. In order to get any ventilation while wearing this hat I have to adjust it so that it's a little too small and sits up higher on my head. That way there's a bit of space for air to pass through. The hat is made of fabric that is lightweight which is a plus but that alone is not enough to give this hat high marks.

I was in the market for a serious summer sun hat instead of the cheap ones available at all of the big box stores. After much research I decided on Sunday Afternoons Ultra Adventure Hat. I received it and I'm lovin' it! The first thing I noticed was the air I could feel circulating on the top of my bald head. Having vents on your hat are important, however, they usually allow burning sun rays to filter through. Usually I have to decide between being sunburned without a hat or hot with a hat. The Ultra Adventure hat has happily made that decision for me with its ultraviolet protection factor of 50+, including the mesh panels. No more polka dot sunburned head! Also, its so light weight you can forget you have it on. It is really the lightest hat I have owned. Its ... The Ultra Adventure hat has happily made that decision for me with its ultraviolet protection factor of 50+, including the mesh panels. No more polka dot sunburned head! Also, its so light weight you can forget you have it on. It is really the lightest hat I have owned. Its hard to believe it can do its job and be so light on your head. The downward sloping 3 ¼” brim shades my entire face and the cape keeps the sun off my neck, which is another great design feature. This hat gives protection to head, face, neck and ears without being obtrusive. Other features include a sunglass lock that holds your glasses in place. It works too. I have tried to shake my head to dislodge them and they stay put. Also, if taking a hat in a back pack is an issue for you, this hat folds in half at the brim and can be kept in your pocket.Without a doubt, this is the best hat on the market and worth every penny. I urge people to give this hat a try if you are shopping for the best hat out there. Since its guaranteed for life, it will probably be the last sun hat you need to buy!! You may want to buy more though as soon as everyone sees how cool it is!
Great design and execution! Lightweight and adjustable, it protects more head and neck than any hat I've ever owned (and I've owned many). The brim is divided into two sections that are connected at the sides. The 3.25" front brim cast a lot of shade and is stiff enough to retain its shape perfectly, even in 25 mph wind. The rear brim is much wider and consists of fabric that shades the back of the neck. Unlike most other hats with neck guards, this one doesn't rest uncomfortably against the back of the head and neck. Instead, the neck guard is held out and away by its connection with the front brim. The hat can easily be folded to a size that will fit in a back pocket because it's got a "hinge" in the front brim designed for the purpose.
Second purchase if an Ultra Adventure hat, so I have a spare for the car/travel. Prefer it to the regular Adventure hat, because of better peripheral visibility, and its neck flap is less in the way of a purse strap or backpack/string bag. The slightly shallower front brim is just right for shading light-sensitive eyes & skin, where the deeper Adventure brim obstructs my view ahead. Cool in southern humidity, so light & comfortable I forget it's there, even when using its chin strap. Great for daily walks & all day theme parks. Easy wash, neutral denim blue color, love the dark gray under brim (simulates cloudy sky.) Worth the price, practical, durable.
I live on an island that gets pretty good breezes most afternoons, and I was hoping this would be The Hat - one with a wide brim for sun protection that would stand up to the wind and not look too stupid. This hat almost works, but the first time I wore it while walking my dog it blew off when I turned 90 degrees (from wind behind me to sideways) and looked down a bit at my dog. It was cinched down as tightly as possible without cutting off circulation (including the cord around the crown). The brim does stand up to the wind when it’s coming from in front of me, but the whole hat tips up under those conditions unless I pull the chinstrap down firmly with my hand. That is better than having just the brim flop up, however, which is what usually happens with ... I think putting the straps further forward on the hat might help.I got two colors, the bluestone which is a blue/gray and the cream. Both are pretty good, fairly neutral colors, but if I had to pick just one it would be the cream which really does go with everything. The foldability is nice and the hat looks a little less dorky than my hats with the neck drape. While it isn’t entirely breathable, it wasn’t unbearable in last week’s heat wave.I have a small female head and the medium fit well.
My Latitude Hat has been through two summers with LOTS of wear time and is still very comfortable and is holding its shape nicely. I wear it all the time while outside. I am ordering a replacement this year only because I ordered the lightest color before it has gotten grease stained (I work a lot on farm equipment) and it looks a bit dirty to wear to nice functions. Its replacement will also be the lightest color because lighter colors are cooler. This replaced a Tilley that also wore well for material and comfort, but the Tilley only provided a fraction of the sun protection and is a lot hotter on my head. Also, the Tilley brim flopped up too easily when driving tractors and the like...very annoying and distracting. The brim on the Latitude holds its shape well. ... It is large, so I do sometimes use the chin strap to keep the hat in place in higher winds or when on an open machine going down the road. My only wish is that I could somehow wear my ear protection (earmuffs with music) while wearing my Latitude and doing noisy jobs. I have to wear ear plugs...and miss the music. Otherwise, A+ all the way! Well, there is the issue of not made in America. My first Latitude was made in Vietnam.
I looked for a really good gardening sunhat for MONTHS before I found this hat in a garden center.... in the wrong size! Follow through is not my strong point, but I took a picture of the tag and went home to buy it online because I was so happy to finally find a decent hat.Pros:- The adjustable band on the hat allows you to very easily customize to fit your head. If it comes loose, you can tug the strap while wearing it and tighten it right back up.- The split brim (stiff in front, floppy in back) means that the brim is never blocking your view or flopping the wrong way, but the floppy back ensures that when you bend down your neck is not exposed to the sun.- The adjustable string is comfortable on your neck and in front of your ears and does not dig in when ... Somewhat slippery, so it doesn't smash up your hair too bad.Cons: none so far!It would be nice if it had strips of that "cooling towel" material on the head that you could wet to help keep cool when it's REALLY warm out.I plan to buy additional Sunday Afternoon hats when I have the need!
This hat is absolutely fantastic. It's basically the perfect hat for playing tennis on hot, sunny days. It keeps the sun off most of your face, your ears, and your neck. It's lightweight and helps keep my head cool while providing way more protection than a baseball cap. The built-in sweatband helps keep sweat out of my eyes. It's easy to rinse and dries quickly. It's easy to adjust the tightness perfectly so it stays on your head without any discomfort. I literally can't think of anything I would change about this has from a functional standpoint. If I lost it I would buy another one instantly - it's hard for me to imagine going back to playing in a ball cap. That being said, wearing this hat is admitting that you've reached middle age. It is might be the most ludicrous-looking article of clothing I've ever owned (and I've been to Burning Man ... twice!) I'm not a remotely vain person, and I still want to wear a baseball cap from my car to the court, and only then pull out this magnificent monstrosity. It's somehow equal parts baseball cap, dinner plate, and Star Wars rebel soldier helmet. If you want a hat to play tennis in, you should buy this hat. It's great! And also, if more people have them, I'll feel slightly less ridiculous wearing mine.
