This film gets a lot of negative reviews but it's fantastic. I first saw this when I was pretty small so my taste in film was not developed. However, since I'm becoming nostalgic, I bought this for the cost of renting it and it's wild, wacky and nothing really like Super Mario except with it's allusions. Besides Tank Girl, I can't think of too many film that were this wacky and based on media that was seen as low brow at the time. If you haven't seen this, but you are curious, come at it with an open mind. I think there is something here that's more about how we interpret games and the culture of escapism which the game is all about escaping the real world, rather than a faithful adaptation to the source material. As a child of the 80’s/90’s, I was of course a big Nintendo fan and loved Super Mario Brothers. So when this movie came out, I HAD to go see it and I dragged my father to the theater to go see it.Watching the movie now, I owe my father a sincere apology haha. While the set design and costumes are all amazing and homaging a lot of Blade Runner, the story and acting in this movie is just broken and, at times, hard to watch. If you’re a fan of 90’s schlock films and grew up as a kid of the 90’s and have some nostalgia for the movie, then this is worth picking up. You really can’t beat the price and it’s a fun movie to throw on late at night with friends to poke fun at.

If you haven't seen this 1990s cult classic you haven't seen one of the best worst movies ever made. Even though it never made sense, it is still a great movie and I love it. This movie is hilarious with some classic actors. If you want to relive your childhood in the 1990s or introduce your children to an early movie based on a video game, then this is the movie you have to own.

I already knew about this movie and how bad it is, but I like collecting things from the Mario franchise and I had never seen it before so why not? It is a bad movie obviously, but I really just wanted to own it just because.
Another movie from our childhood that we introduced to the kids. They LOVED it and actually sat until the end. If you haven't seen this movie it isn't a cannon precursor to the games but it is fun. Yoshi is in it so win.
This heart warming rendition of the classic game is a must see for any gaming enthusiast. Though this movie takes a unique twist in a more modern setting It would be a great addition to any family collection. Follow the lives of two brothers, plumbers by trade, as they are plunged into a parallel world as they are trying to rescue this pretty young woman as she is kidnapped by the henchmen of king boswer. The parallel world where the dinosaurs never died but evolve into fantastical creatures. Follow the adventure as mario brothers save princess Peach from the horrible grasps of bowser and save the world.
I picked this up for $3.99 in a bargain bin since it is not available at the library or free on Amazon Prime, so as far as disk cost, I think it was a deal. My 9yo is into Super Mario Brothers and was intrigued when I told him about it. We were both pretty disappointed in the movie. In it's defense though, I don't know how (back in 1993) Hollywood could produce a movie that features walking, talking toadstools, monstrous turtles and all the other characters of Super Mario Bros that we all enjoy. With today's CGI tech it would be a breeze! They could make a movie that mirrors the levels of gameplay.

While exploring the tunnels where dinosaur fossils lay, saboteurs hired by the Mario Bros. rival businessman, Anthony Scapelli, to break some underground pipes. Meanwhile, in a hidden world called Dino-world, King Koopa's land is running out of water and going through problems so he sends Spike and Iggy to kidnap Daisy! Now the Super Mario Bros. find themselves the only hope to save the Earth from invasion then challenge a diabolical lizard king and they must battle giant reptilian goombas, outwit misfit thugs and undermine sinister scheme by taking over the world. A classic game adapted to a fantasy reality that parallels, is simply brilliant. The rendition of koopa-manhattan is great. The city adds life to this movie, it makes it real in it's own fantastic way. If you love the games and have an open minded imagination, this is a must watch movie.
A spectacular train wreck of a movie. This movie was fraught with trouble through out the entire production process. It killed the career of almost every person attached to it. This movie is the reason why people believe video game movies can’t be good. The following quote from Dennis Hoper (Kong Koopa) sums up how much he regrets doing this movie.“"I made a picture called Super Mario Bros., and my six-year-old son at the time -- he's now 18 -- he said, 'Dad, I think you're probably a pretty good actor, but why did you play that terrible guy King Koopa in Super Mario Bros.?' and I said, 'Well Henry, I did that so you could have shoes,' and he said, 'Dad, I don't need shoes that badly."” -Dennis Hopper (King Koopa)This movie is like the sharknado of video game ... MoreA spectacular train wreck of a movie. It crosses into so-bad-it’s-good territory. I recommend everyone should watch it.
Is the movie itself good? I mean… crazy production, innovative technology that helped paved the way for future films. But source material? Not a chance.Bob Hoskins was great, and that’s about it. Perfect for a MST3K/Riff-Trax kind of get together with friends. And the DVD works.
