I have a Wave,OHT,Surge, A Orginal ST and The 300. I have had the 300 for 15+ years. Sent it back once for a warranty issue. Can't remember what for. But this tool is my go to for my EDC. Although the tool is every bit equal to the ST 300. I have found the weight is more and that keeps me from switching out.

As much as like the ST300 I had to mod mine to get the tools on it I saw fit hence the 4 stars (also the screws used to hold it together are a joke), I purchased both an ST300M and an ST300 EOD. I used the ST300M frame and mashed the two together, I'm left with a standard awl, bit driver, small flat head (for use on rotary tool bits and carburetor screws), the massive ST300M pry bar, combo edge blade, wood saw, file, the t-shank adapter for hack saw blades, and of course the pliers. Its now have a highly capable tool and that performs very well. The only thing missing is a pocket clip... When compared to other multi tools from other brands I've researched and used Leatherman's have consistently been more capable, more useful, and higher quality. The ST300 is the pinnacle of plier based multi tools, no gimmicks just ready to do work.

Picked this up one day after I lost one of my Gerbers. I’ve been using MP600’s for about 30 years. I had heard that there were made very well and a good tool for the price point. This tool has exceeded my expectations. It’s got a good weight to it and is a bit bulky. I carry my tools on my belt so I don’t mind it. It’s easier to open the. I thought it would be, been able to do it one handed when needed. The tools sharp out of the box. One of my second most used tools is a bottle opener. This tools bottle opener is in combination with its can opener. I’ve used it to open both cans and bottles now and it worked great. There’s no bells a whistles or fancy gimmicks with this multitool. It’s straight forward, built well, and functions as expected.

The tool has held up well, however I have used it to the point that it now opens completely like a butterfly knife. The only thing I don't like about it is all of the flat blade drivers. It has three & while none of them are bad tools I personally don't see the need for three of them on the tool. There is no option for a pocket clip which at times would be nice to have.I worked primarily it the contract steel fabrication business while having this tool opening paint barrels, clipping welding wire, tightening bolts repairing grinders, & it has & still does so well for my needs. Super tool 300, with special engraving. For what I paid this tool should come perfect. It is EXTREMELY over tight. I know it’s news but this takes 2 hands and a significant amount of force to close. I have been carrying leatherman since 2000 and own 7 of the tools. I’d say from 2015 era on, the quality control is not there. With the exception of the free P4, my surge, wave, and super tool have arrived beyond stiff. I know Leatherman produces thousands of multi tools. However no way did the last 3 out of 4 just happen to be the one in a thousand bad ones. I’m not happy with it.
The tool it self is really good and solid. The joints and pivot on the plier head on the black version are REALLY stiff so it will take some time to rub off that black coating where moving parts meet to get it to move smoother. Same goes for the implements. They are pretty tough to open and feel like a bunch of grit is in between them. Again I'm pretty sure that's just the black coating because I've never heard of anyone having this issue on non black coated multi tools from any brand. When you get the tool it will be coated in a decent layer of oil you will need to clean off or you will constantly get it all over your hands. I mean this sucker is GREAZY. The Super Tool 300 has pretty much every tool you would want in a well rounded multitool plus you can get the bit driver kit and use Leatherman's flat bits or if those break and are out of stock you can use regular 1/4 inch bits with that driver kit as well. The copy of the Super Tool 300 I received came with the newer version of their replaceable wire cutters on the plier head. They are lower quality wire cutters and when they break Leatherman will sell you or send you the same wire cutters. They are same ones that come with the new Leatherman Arc so expect them to break frequently. They're almost as bad as those carbide cutters from the other brand. What you can do to avoid breaking them is do not put the wire you are cutting toward the very back of the plier jaws because you will end up cutting with the weak rounded corner of the new cutters. You won't cut through the wire back there anyway and the cutters will crumble. Instead cut with the middle or more forward section of the cutters. I'm going to look for third party options that won't break as easy in the mean time. It's the weakest part of any Leatherman tool now which is a huge disappointment. I would honestly rather have non replaceable cutters instead of these. I have never had an issue with non replaceable cutters breaking anyways and it would mean you'd have a beefier plier head with that extra bit of metal support instead of being cut out for the new chinsy cutters. Looking on the inside, the tools built in are all very well made out of what I understand to be 420 high carbon steel. Some people like to scoff at this metal but it is comparable to S30V but is much better suited to multi tool applications helps keep some cost down. 420HC is also not bad for blade steel. Yes you'll sharpen it more than harder steels but it will sharpen MUCH easier too. It's good steel. Don't let some knife snob tell you otherwise and honestly i'd rather mess up a 420HC blade than a Magnacut blade. Mine does have some slack when it's closed meaning that it will open just a tiny bit when closed. It doesn't bother me too much but if that's something that really bugs you it's something to think about. The only bad thing about this tool really is just the change in wire cutters. They're trash. I don't know why Leatherman switched to them. Likely some kind of cost cutting measure or the deal they had with the original factory fell through or something. I dunno. What ever it is the cutters are a big problem. Especially since it's one of the most used parts of any multiplier. Another thing that bugged me, and it has nothing to do with the tool, was the shipping and customer service. I paid extra for 1-2 day shipping and didn't receive it for 7 days. The shipping company (UPS) was not the problem. UPS got my order to me within the time advertised barring the first of the year because no shipper ships on January 1st which is fine. The problem was Leatherman took 3 days to process my order. 3 days to process an order of only 2 items is odd to say the least. I emailed them about it and customer service never responded. Makes me wonder how great that 25 year warranty is going to be if customer service doesn't respond to simple queries. Again other than that the Super Tool 300 is one awesome heavy duty (minus the cutters) and I think any one would be jazzed to have one.
I have 4 Leatherman tools (Wave, Rebar, Signal and the ST 300) and I've had the ST 300 for about several months now and I would say that compared to the other three tools, the big guy is the one I would like to have on me if I had to choose between all of them. The tools are nearly all that I could ask for and despite its heft, it is not unreasonably heavy and carries quite well. The pliers are for me, the best part of this tool. You get the impression that you can wrench on something and the ST 300 would just keep asking for more. There's a reason why this tool is award-winning and is quite up there in the brand's most sought-after tools. If you plan to have something that you can have on you until the end, this would be a good candidate.

The can opener being more like the traditional John Wayne is great for not just can opening but to side in lifting and moving hot pots off the fire. The bottle opener doubles for this purpose as well. All of the tools perform well and add functionality to any task. The bottom line to me is that the safety, reliability and the fact that all the tools lock along with the perfect set and combination of tools, and the fact that the tools are permanently attached truly sets this tool above the rest. For these reasons I have purchased them for my son and grandsons. Thank you Leatherman for all the years with such a great tool.
