I was given one of these for work and it didn't last more than a year. The battery bulged and caused all sorts of issues. Even after it was replaced, the display would black out randomly. It would probably be fine for personal use but definitely wouldn't recommend for work and it running 8+ hours a day.

I had the original Surface Laptop and it's great. This one here is just as thin but a bit heavier. But nothing that will break your arm, for a 15" laptop it is just as nice. They got rid of the mini-display port in favor of a USB C port. While it does mean I need to get a new dongle, it's nice to see a more modern port on this device - there's flexibility to use the USB C port for more than just video out - because just one USB 3.0 port is a bit weak. The IR camera is just as good, somehow the keyboard and the trackpad got better - and that's great. the quality and feel of the keys are a bit "click-ier" if that's a word. Sometimes the original Surface felt a bit mush at times. So that's the exterior of it.inside it uses a Ryzen. Sometimes the original Surface felt a bit mush at times. So that's the exterior of it.inside it uses a Ryzen. I'm not really sure what to make of it. I wanted a Core i5 more, but all of the 15" are all Ryzen's. For the most part, if you're surfing the net or doing something basic like a word document, watching a video, there really is no difference if you're using an Intel or AMD processor. Sure there might be minor differences that may affect the performance by a second or less, but for the average person it's really hardly noticeable. Big thing to note is the integrated graphics portion. The old Surface uses an Intel HD integrated graphics chip and this 15" uses the Radeon Vega chip. Back on my old Surface I couldn't play any game unless it was a casual game like bejeweled or Tetris. This one I tested out Transformers Devastation (which is a 3 year old hack and slash game). Had to play on low res but it was smooth for the most part, even when there are multiple things going on in the screen. This is the big advantage of the Ryzen processor. While it's unfortunate that I couldn't play full screen (unless I changed the native Windows resolution down to accommodate the game), it's more than playable to test out games from a few years ago. I also just tried to play Forza on this thing, also had to tone down the game resolution to the lowest, but again, very playable (the first 30 minutes that I played that is).But it's not all great for gaming. Because this is not a gaming laptop, this thing gets hot and the fans kick in after a short while. Doesn't get burning hot but warm enough to keep your hands warm on a winter's day. and while that's all going on, your battery life takes a big hit. If you're gaming, you probably won't get more than 3-4 hours out of this. I had to plug it in after 3 so my game doesn't lose its progress, so I don't know how long it truly will last. The thing to note here that this is not a gaming laptop, but it's nice to know you can game if you need a quick fix. Anything with Intel HD graphics won't provide that. For gaming, the 15" screen isn't a big thing because you can't play full resolution anyways. But if you are on a spreadsheet, those extra rows and columns make a difference. Same with reading stuff on the net, more screen less scrolling. Would a 15" in an Intel make this better? I don't know. But it's definitely a nice upgrade for the Surface Laptop. You can do some graphic intensive stuff, you can be more productive with the larger screen and it's still thin and light enough to carry around with you. You can't do that with any 15" laptop - in fact it's probably one of the thinnest 15" laptops out there. Someone who gets this wants it because of how thin and sleek this thing is, the fact that it checks off so many boxes it's a really good choice.

I have tried 4 different Logitech mice on this and none work. They will only work intermittently, stopping after 20 minutes or so and then doing nothing. I do not know if it is because this was a refurbished unit and possibly that was the initial problem in the first place. At any rate it is ridiculous that a laptop cannot operate with a mouse. Very very very disappointed in this feature because I cannot use the built in mouse pad for my work. Total waste of money.

I had a Surface prior to my purchase and loved it. Very strong and dependable machine. Although this is last year's model that BJ's offered, this is a great buy for a very good solid state design. Microsoft did a good job with this laptop. But to get it in a 15", incredible deal. With the money saved, I would highly recommend that you piggy back your laptop with the purchase of BJ's 3 year extended warranty since the Microsoft warranty may run out. Remember, this is last year's Surface model. This is a great deal and I have not found one any cheaper for months. Great deal!
Only a few days old. Iv installed microsoft word and google chrome browser. The computer randomly restarts by itself. Turns out this is a known issue with the microsoft surface. Possibly isolated to only the amd chipset and not the intel. Microsoft have been working on a fix for this for 8 months or more. On saying this the computer work flawlessly. Good battery life etc. Didnt really push it very hard at all apart from a lot of bowser tabs and some cloud based software. But uncontrolled restarting renders the computer fairly useless. Resart time is very quick though haha. And yes all updates were run and all fixes that were listed as remedies were tested.
Please dnt get fooled by the company Microsoft and surface laptop 3 looks, like I did. All that glitters is not gold! I bought this laptop 11 months ago, thinking Microsoft is a pretty decent brand. Its a hefty amount for a device that doesn’t really work. Initially it was working pretty well but just before 1 year, the laptop started making fan noises with blackening of the screen. I contacted customer support after multiple efforts they sent me a replacement ( refurbished laptop) which had the same problem and did not work well even for a day, it used to turn off and give windows error in the middle of my work. I requested another replacement and technical support , they were also unable to assist due to faulty device and again I had to request another ... MorePlease dnt get fooled by the company Microsoft and surface laptop 3 looks, like I did. I contacted customer support after multiple efforts they sent me a replacement ( refurbished laptop) which had the same problem and did not work well even for a day, it used to turn off and give windows error in the middle of my work. I requested another replacement and technical support , they were also unable to assist due to faulty device and again I had to request another replacement, which I received, this time it was even worse, it continuously showed win2kfull.sys error and later it got me to a screen which said download window/windows corrupted. I spent entire day with technical support, which btw is not easy to get. Their service is pretty slow, they hardly respond to emails , you are kept on hold forever, and then suddenly your call cuts off and its a process all over again. Since then its been almost 3 months, I have spent my time just trying to get a replacement that works well. And still no luck! Will update my review once I hear back from them. But for now I can’t be more disheartened and dissatisfied. Honestly If anyone is interested in similar light weight, functional, durable laptop please go for Dell XPS or Macbook, you won’t regret!
Generally very happy with this laptop. It gets a bit warm when sitting on your laps :) but overall I don't think it causes me trouble since I use it mostly on the desk. The screen if fine for most general use like watching movies and YouTube. It's not as anti-reflective as one would wish, so not really for an outdoors on a sunny day. Sometimes the changes to nightlight and back is a bit abrupt, but that's a cosmetic issue, I think. The keyboard is a joy, really probably the best keyboard out there. So is the track pad.I quite like that the speakers are behind the keyboard, this is an innovation, and it works well for general use.
Four days after purchasing a brand new Microsoft Surface Laptop 3, and after using it only twice, the laptop crashed on me. Tech support at Microsoft were incredibly helpful. However, it did take them nearly five hours of remote controlling my computer to fix the problem; on top of my being two hours on hold, and an additional two hours to ensure their updates had completed.I find it very disappointing that a brand new computer would require nearly ten hours on my part to ensure that it is functional. As a tool that I require for my work in the current work-from-home situation, this was very far from ideal.Apparently one/some of the drivers were broken; this required a complete reset of the computer and downloading all drivers again. As a tool that I require for my work in the current work-from-home situation, this was very far from ideal.Apparently one/some of the drivers were broken; this required a complete reset of the computer and downloading all drivers again. One of the tech support assistants said that he had helped four other customers with this problem. Whilst I am relieved that my surface now appears to be fixed, I think it is unusual and unacceptable that this seems to be a recurring issue with the Surface Laptop 3. Customers should not need to spend hours on a brand-new product to ensure that it is functional.I would like to say a big thank you to Microsoft's excellent tech support, who were polite, patient, provided good explanations, and who managed to fix my problem. It is just a shame that this problem happened in the first place - and that I was not the only one to experience it. I understand that one-off problems happen, and in that case, it is just bad luck. Mine was not, however, an isolated case, as tech support informed me.I will not be investing in any Microsoft Surface product in the future as I cannot trust that a new product will be functional.
I am the IT person for my company. At the beginning of the Covid pandemic, my company needed to deploy 5 laptops to users. There is a limit of 2 laptops per order so I spread the orders out among three people. 5 should definitely be a good sample size. The first thing I do with any new machine is apply all microsoft critical, security and recommended updates. Users reported blue screen of death, and intermittently unable to wake from sleep state. Some even reported that their laptops were too hot to the touch. After trying a few troubleshooting steps on my own, I created a case with Microsoft Surface Support team and did everything they asked, run this report, send this data, send blue screen data, etc. The data was handed off to the data analysis team. 5 five ... MoreI am the IT person for my company. I went with another manufacturer laptop and there have been no reported issues..Stay away from this model.
The surface 3 is still very good even though its a few years old now. Its the perfect budget power house for someone who is in a creative field studying like me. Coding, photoshop, Indesign, Illustrator are all applications I use and this laptop handles fine for the most part. It does slow a little under heavy load but if you're looking for starter laptop this is perfectly fine. The 15" is a good choice as the screen sits a bit taller as well, so productivity on this machine is good. Colours are vibrant, text is nice to read because the picture is nice and sharp and it has the bonus of touch screen too. Build is and sturdy, feels a little heavy but that may be because i've never use 15" machine before. In short I would recommend this laptop to anyone who is looking ... MoreThe surface 3 is still very good even though its a few years old now.
