Bought these cameras and spent a long time trying to set up detection zones and sensitivity per manual, but this is not available since firmware update. Contacted Swann and was told that feature is not available and will just have to accept a notification every 10 seconds or replace cameras. Rubbish

I have had this system the NVR8-8580 for around 2 years now and very happy with the system and cameras. There was one cable had an issue but i just spliced a cat-E ethernet to the end of the problem cable and it was fixed. From time to time the some of the cameras go offline but just disconnect cable at the rear of the recorder and use alcohol to gently clean the contacts on the recorder to fix.

Well 10months later and still not sorted they have got worse because swann send out firmware updates for my NVR that disable features. These cams are now useless you can't access any settings with the latest firmware on the nvr and they have lost the ability to record sound.
DO NOT PURCHASE IF YOU WANT MOTION TO WORK RELIABLY PAST 20ftI purchased the NVR8-8580 last week. The only settings you can adjust are the "Detection Area" (what triggers the system to record) PD, PID and motion. You CANNOT adjust the camera brightness, contrast, etc from the NVR or any where else. You plug it in and that picture is all you get. As for install, pretty straight forward. However, the way they design the base, you cannot remove the camera unless you uninstall the base. The hole is too small for the RJ45 connector and its cover to fit through it. In other words if you seal the base to make sure no water or bugs get into your house you cannot remove the camera w/o taking down the base. The sensors and motion detection is spotty at best. they advertise ... The truth. If you live anywhere that has heat outside and a shadow it will trigger the recording and email. As for push notifications, it has yet to work with my Android (S9) phone. Emails do work. The motion detection pics up cars very well. People 25 to 30 feet or more not so much. maybe about 50 to 60% with cameras set to the highest sensitivity. My cameras are positioned to overlap coverage and on 1 camera I will record someone walking and the other one show nothing. I even have 1 recording where it shows someone walking and stops recording as they get closer. If you have a small patio or porch, that is in a place with an ambient temp less than 60F that you want to monitor, this will be perfect. A suburban area house with a side walk 30ft away, it is decent at best.
Would not recommend these cameras from costco because they are poor quality made of plastic. And everytime the nvr reboots which by default is every sunday night you have to go back into the nvr system menus and rename all your cams again. Swann support said yes that is how it is just don't unplug the cams. so there fix is disable the system reboots and risk the whole unit crashing?
As the old adage says, "you get what you pay for". One of the worst decisions I made thinking Swann was going to have decent software and the thermal detection was going to reduce false alerts. We had a DVR system, fitted at my parents place a few years ago, using older software which was quite OK and reliable. However buying this cheap NVR system, what a bad decision. 1) Why on earth do you insist on the password to the NVR box being so long?! Especially with such a poor on screen interface. The lag is awful and I have to retype 8 characters two or three times to get in, and then it requires password AGAIN for some updates. 2) My HDD is full of non-alerts. Three cameras, one at side of house (zero motion ever), rear of house, at best once a day human movement, ... MoreAs the old adage says, "you get what you pay for". Three cameras, one at side of house (zero motion ever), rear of house, at best once a day human movement, front drive, some movement, cars etc. I'd expect front of house to have loads, due to cars. Fair play. By i get more alerts on the side and back of house where there is near ZERO movement! I was getting better results on my cheaper and easier to manage Hikvision setup. 3) Very poor quality cameras. Cheap plastic and really hard to adjust the angles and fit to the wall, due to the poor placement of the screws and the adjustment nuts. Also the copper inserts in the ethernet connection are prone to corrosion very easily, thus rending 2 of my cameras broken and shorted out my house due to the Power over Ethernet. Will absolutely avoid buying Swann again.
i have a couple of systems going here .an 8 and 4 cam system..the. SWDVK-445804V and the SWDVK-845804V.....someone in an earlier post said that you do get what you paid for and they are crap....i half agree.....you do get what you paid for but far from being crap.....its good quality....you just probably got a lemon ..there are lemons in everything almost....my systems work just fine and the quality if image is great...if you have good monitors...your in my case...hd tvs loll...only issue i have is the price for extra cams i find are a bit on the heavy side....they are good cameras but very expensive to buy....wish they would lower prices on that
look i haven't finished setting it all up but bottom line I'm pretty dang impressed with what it can do. great upgrade from my dodgy eBay system i had installed a year ago. a small thing for future installers though turn the notifications off until you set up the system correctly haha. my phone hasn't stopped all day with it pinging. but thats what i wanted and now i know where the dog buries the bone. keep up the good work Swann
I bought a complete swan security system and additional cameras that took a while to install due to my health. I also purchased an additional warranty. One of the cameras in the kit went bad. I removed it and took it in only to be told I had to bring in the whole kit inorder for the warranty to cover it. So I have to hire someone to remove the camera, unhook everything and take EVERYTHING in. BS. They could have just replaced the camera. The extended warranty is a joke. This is how you treat disabled persons? All of this was explained and I have made multiple attempts including with the manufactor but out of warranty with them due to delays with MicroCenter. I will shop other places and not travel the over 1hr. to go there again.
