Notable as the setting used for the recent Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Amongst Thieves movie - which is a good reference point for those coming directly from the movie. It is a little shorter than some of the other current D&D published settings, but it is also the default setting implied in all the core rules anyway. Provides plenty of material to serve as a gazette and there are a few player options too. Could have done with a big, pull out map.

Excellent book. Beautifully illustrated and not too crazy long. Covers details like religion in enough detail to be useful without getting tiresome. The character and race details are invaluable it your running the Waterdeep campaign

To begin, I really enjoy this book as a supplemental text to my D&D games. There are some great additions to spells and class subtypes to spice up the core game experience. The Sword Coast, of course, is an excellent setting for campaigns and those who are drawn in by the established D&D lore will likely love this book. As to be expected there is plenty of high quality art to captivate and inspire, and the way the book is written and organized make it an easy and fun read. Furthermore, this text gives good guidance for players who may be looking to find new spins on old character archetype or who are wanting to really create a meaty backstory. However, DM's who make their own settings to play in may find difficulty finding a lot of use out of this book as though it ... MoreTo begin, I really enjoy this book as a supplemental text to my D&D games. This book is not an adventure path, it is not a huge expansion or source book, it is a campaign setting and should really be used as a supplement at the table and not much else, but to it's credit it knows what it is. To the buyer who is looking for something to add more depth to the game, this is not the book for you. For someone who is really wanting to dig into the lore and setting of the Sword Coasts, or add some spice to an adventure path, like Dungeon of the Mad Mage or Dragon Heist this is worth the buy.

Lore heavy and a little dry. The subclasses in over supplementary books are superior, however, this is the first book after the 5th edition Player’s Handbook, Dungeon Master’s Guide, and Monster Manual.
Faerun for 5E DnD. Great source to tap for homebrew or published content. Great for DMs or players.
Great book to get some history on the land and how it may have affected your character background. Knowing what happened 100 years ago is nice, but this book tells you stuff about what happened TEN years ago. Also enjoy the new backgrounds for the characters.
I love this book because reading about the places, events, groups, etc. fires my imagination and gives me ideas for creating my own campaigns, adventures, and stories. The book is mostly that. 40 pages of places, history, gods and their portfolios. 60 pages of more detailed places. 20 pages of how all the races fit into the world, 25 more pages of class options, 10 pages of backgrounds. So for players, there's 35 pages of extra options. No new magic items, only a few cantrips to fit the new class options. No monsters or familiars. Again, if you want ideas to help you create your own fleshed out locales, this is your book.
I ordered this and it came, no problems with delivery time! And, just in time to answer a question for an online discussion! This book is awesome if you have a desire to get the details right. It also includes some awesome racial variants as well. (Tieflings can have wings! ) I highly recommend it for a players supplement to the PHB (Player's Hand Book)
WOTC:chaos incarnate OR incredible business planning? Want all the info for D&D 5E , buy all the books! There is significant info exclusive to every book. Now we ( the players and DM's) need a guidebook telling us where that info is located for easy reference. And yes, just as I have bought every other book, I will make sure to buy "The 5E Reference Book" which should tell me what monster stats are located where, and which specific info is located where as well. 5E 5
As far as sourcebooks go, it's less costly and still provides a number of interesting options for the players. Not every class gets new archetypes, but all of them get some more insight into what they do and why they are what they are. It also has translations between the different worlds for how characters in this book can make sense in the others. Don't look past this book (or Xanathar's Guide to Everything) when gathering your sourcebooks for your game.
