I purchased this mic for voiceover and narration. If the sennheiser 416 is the gold standard(Waaaaay out of my budget) I was in search of budget friendly that didn't compromise quality. This mic was just that. The response, proximity effect were as advertised.after viewing multiple reviews and vids I was compelled to make this purchase. It exceeded my expectations. My only complaint is the thick suede like windscreen. I'm sure something that thick serves a purpose ( just not sure where)I would absolutely recommend this to anyone's mic lockerAnd secondly I will be buying a second one for my portable voice over rig

A lot of people compare this to a Sennheiser 416. I can understand that. This mic is a bit punchier and voice forward than me cardioid large diaphragm condenser mic. But the self-noise it is a huge downside for me. There's a static-like hiss that's so much more pronounced than what a 416 produces. The only reason I didn't return this mic is I can remove the hiss in post. But it's an extra step that's completely unnecessary with my primary mic and impacts my workflow. If it had lower self-noise, I'd probably give it four or five stars, since it does deliver the sound profile and focus you'd expect from a shotgun mic. Ultimately, for me the Synco D2 didn't live up to its considerable hype.
As far as I'm concerned this mic IS the best bang for the buck on the market. Period. Full stop. Leaps and bounds better than other mics in its price range. You can buy 4 of these for the price of an MKH416. Buying a second now. Wish I could still get it for $169 like I did the first one.
The mic was packaged incredibly well. It adds the clarity and presence I was looking for in a mic. Many others I have tried, only added to the muddiness. This allowed me to record and send. Work smarter not harder.
I bought this mic because of a review comparing it to the sound and style of a Sennheiser MKH 416.The styling is close, but that's where the similarities end. The mic has a harsh, almost swirling sound in the background even when used in a properly isolated studio for vo. I bought this as part of my "travel" voice kit, but more than a few producers have rejected the sound quality of this mic and I lost out on jobs because of it. I knew I was beyond the Adorno return policy of 30 days when I realized this issue but was assured that Synco would take it back and refund the purchase price up to one year. Adorno has been great, but the manufacturer won't even return my emails requesting refund. I'd stay away from this item if you're a vo talent. thanks, Thomas V
I watched a lot of review videos for this one. I watched a lot of comparison videos as well. I liked the way it performed in the low end so I could round off my presentation a little and give it more punch. I will say that the Synco D2 does that, but there are things you should know, if you don't already: any mic is going to be affected by the processing gear that you have. I use a Symetrix 528E. All of the settings needed to be adjusted. I found a diagram for a similar mic and used it while also tweaking my console EQ just a bit.Noise Floor issues: for my usage, the noise floor is fine. However, at first, I was hearing some interference. I assumed it was from cell phones. Buying the Shure RF filter (recommended by B&H) did the trick and made the output much cleaner.
I've used this for a couple of interviews so far and it sounds great. Very well made. Not sure what to make of the suede windscreen but most of the time I run without one since I'm indoors.
Have been exclusively using Shure SM7B with Grace Design M101, it works well, but really wanted to add a shotgun condenser mic. Sennheiser 416 was a yeah, maybe someday dream -- until watching Booth Junkie A/B review of the 416 and Synco Mic-D2. To my ear, the 416 does have a brighter top end, but, for my voice, I prefer the sound of the Synco -- and I could afford one TODAY! So now I use the SM7B for long-form sit-down recording at my editing desk and the Mic-D2 for short-form stand-up recording in my booth. Both have their role and both mics deliver great results!
