Pros: User friendly system. I'm very much used to windows and the format on the Synology makes it very easy to use with the windows style interface.Cons: None currently to think about. Though this is a bare unit so will recommend upgrading the ram to max when you buy it and then try and get the biggest disk for each slot too. 16Tb that would be. As over kill for some it will help the data flow better in the long run. Also buying the Nas rated disk will help too. With cooling and balance in the box.

Pros: I bought this to replace a DS415+ that failed and left me in a bit of a panic. After a bit of research, I ordered this unit on BOX and there it was the next day!Signed in and away it went even recovering my account at Synology. Panic over and away I went!!!Cons: I thought I would be able to mix SSD with HDD, you can but not as I thought.

Pros: Great features and software.Cons: Only one USB port on the rear (previous model had two).Dropped support for PhotoStation, and the replacement does not support XMP data in images, or allow you to manually tag people. IMHO this is a real failing. I'm going to have to run a previous version of DSM in a Virtual Machine, which seems rather tedious, but at least it's possible! Also, I didn't realise that if you want to use SSD for WRITE cache, you need a pair of M.2 SSDs, ideally not too large as it is also related to the amount of RAM required.

23 October 2021

Pros: Only had this for a few weeks and still getting use to it and many functions. Looks like it might be a long learning curve. Pleased so far. Difficult to give fair ratings at this early stageCons: Better and more in depth guides for its interface and for each of its down loadable packages especially to help newbies.

Does everything I need so far
30 March 2022

First NAS and so far it fits the need. It was easy to set up and will prove a useful asset for my home network. It has a lot more capabilities than I am currently using - and most of the software is fairly intuitive. Happy with the purchase. Given I am not running a large number of machines on the network and dont get it to do transcoding, it has standard RAM and cache - no need for the additional cost.

Fast, Loud and full of vibrations
18 February 2021

Yes, it is very fast. Understandably the speed requires some noise during load. However, during idle the device should be quiet. Unfortunately, not with this device. For several weeks, the device was pretty quiet on idle, now it is full of vibrations! You need to press the disks hard in, then the device stops the noise. Unbearable. I will try to do some Velcro fix as suggested on many sites. Embarrassing ... that for such price you get pretty low quality hardware fittings! Worst out of all my Synology products. Definitely my last Synology purchase.

Pros: Relatively easy to set up. Fast transfer speeds. Twin fan should keep unit cool.Cons: Software is not intuitive and really choppy. This would be a great NAS if this was improved.

Malcolm's review of Synology DS920+ 4-Bay Desktop NAS (Network-Attached Storage) Enclosure
6 February 2023

Pros: Unit is very quiet, excellent Synology DSM interface is smooth and responsive over local network and I was able to transfer the discs from my old DS415+ very easily.Cons: Only 1 rear USB port, but there is a USB 3.0 on the front. 2GB of system memory is a bit less than I would have liked but it seems to run OK at the moment.

Mike's review of Synology DS920+ 4-Bay Desktop NAS (Network-Attached Storage) Enclosure
6 August 2021

Pros: Easy to set up install HDDs and configure, wide range of apps, features and tools that can be downloaded.Cons: Very sluggish and file transfers are very slow. On a 1GbE network all PC's hard wired and not wireless and it takes over an hour to transfer a 4GB file to the NAS drive. There are only 3 computers connected, 1 single user on the NAS and Seagate Iron Wolf NAS hard drives installed.Very slow performance. I have contacted Synology who have brushed me off saying it must be a slowdown related to the network environment. Funny how through the same network environment I can transfer files between PC's 5 times faster. Will not be recommending or buying Synology again if this is the level of service to be expected.

Simon's review of Synology DS920+ 4-Bay Desktop NAS (Network-Attached Storage) Enclosure
13 June 2022

Pros: It's so amazing having all my photos and videos finally accessible. 20 years of backing up onto yearly drives now all duplicated onto the NAS to make them accessible. Synology software makes it so easy to navigate it all too - via laptop, mobile, tablet or even Apple TV. FantasticCons: It's not cheap when you add drives, but I can't express how many times more valuable it is than the total price paid to easily browse old images and videos
