I absolutely love this set. Between me and a friend of mine, we have had a lot of different kind of drum sets over the years, and this Superstar kit is right up there as one of the best ones. I play a lot of different types of music and these drums fit with all of them, they are very versatile. I didn't use the factory heads that came with them so I can't speak to how they sound right out of the box, but with better heads and a good tuning job, they sound great. They are made really well and can handle a beating. I saw one review on here saying how bad they are, I don't know what that person is talking about, they must not know much about drums, I have been playing for more than 25 years and I can assure you, this is a great kit, especially for the price. I was lucky enough to find a matching bass drum to this kit (a one in a million chance) at a great price to make it a double bass kit, and it's perfect. I have the midnight gold sparkle finish and it looks pretty good. But overall, I would definitely recommend this kit. If you're a beginner, maybe try something smaller and less money, but if you have been playing a while or are in a band, definitely a great set.

I had been playing an old Mapex Mars Series kit with my band for six years. I showed up to a rehearsal one evening with the Tampa Superstar classic set and they could not believe the difference between the two. The Tamas were much beefier, and much, much better sounding overall. They love this kit almost as much as I do. The snare may be the only week link as it tends to go out of tune considerably and the strainer loosens while playing. I hope to upgrade to a better snare at some point.

Bought my kit in Transparent Blue lacquer and love it!Out of the box, the floor toms and the snare were the most challenging to bring into tune. I felt there was too much ring and overtone, but Aquarian Studio Rings and more adjustments straightened everything out.I had never seen this finish before, but do manage to get a lot of compliments on it. You can see the grain of the wood coming thru the lacquer, which really looks cool.Hardware is typical Tama...bullet proof!
I put new heads on it and it still sounds horrible
first off this drum set looks great the indago sparkle looks amazing but the sound of it is less then desirable. Starting with the snare the snare is garbage i have been tuning it for a couple days and it still has this awful ring and over tones plus the bottom hoop was bent. the toms well i like the hard ware the toms sit on but they sound no different to my $350 pdp set. Maybe trying new skins will help but if i am spending over twice as much for a drum set specially being a tama it should sound better then a $350 pdp set. overall this drum set looks good having the extra 2 drums is nice but out of the box does not deliver on the sound i was hoping it would have.
