The Tamron 28-75 mm F/2.8 Di III VXD G2 lens for Sony E-Mount cameras is the successor to the popular first-generation lens and offers a versatile zoom range from 28 mm wide-angle to 75 mm portrait length. It features a constant bright maximum aperture of F/2.8, ensuring even exposure and control of shallow depth of field throughout the entire focus range. The updated optical design delivers higher resolution and improved sharpness with reduced aberrations and distortions for clear, detailed shots. A VXD focusing mechanism (Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive) enables fast, precise, and quiet autofocus performance, suitable for both still photography and video recording. The lens has a minimum focusing distance of 18 cm at wide-angle and 38 cm at telephoto, allowing for close-ups with a maximum magnification ratio of 1:2.9. External enhancements include a moisture-resistant construction and a fluorine coating on the front element to repel water, oil, and dust. A dedicated connection port allows for customization of focus and operation settings via the Tamron Lens Utility software. The lens measures approximately 75.8 mm in diameter and 117.6 mm in length, weighing 540 g, making it compact and lightweight for extended handheld use. It is compatible with Sony E-Mount full-frame and APS-C cameras, providing an equivalent focal length of 42-112.5 mm on APS-C sensors. The package includes a lens cap, a lens hood, and a cleaning cloth for added convenience and protection.

This second gen 28-75 is absolutely beautiful. The new design feels better in my hands and looks better also. The programmable button is a nice touch for sure! Great for focus locking! The lens is way more compact and lighter than the previous version, which is perfect. With that the lens from 28-50 almost feels like it has internal zoom. You don't notice the lens extend till a little passed that. Overall pics are sharp, quiet motor, lightning fast auto focus. My new overall go to lens for sure!

I was using a bunch of Sigma prime lenses and when this new one was announced and it was said that it is better than the original in every way I basically jumped on board almost immediately.I got it and I do very much think it's an amazing lens, but I do think my expectations were a bit too high in areas. It might be because I wasn't sure what to expect because this is a zoom lens and the others were all Prime lenses, but I was definitely a little bit disappointed.I almost returned it due to this, but after using it for a while, and understanding how to make the autofocus work for me, I do think it's quite an amazing lens. Sharp almost always with very little issues in 4k video or photos. I think that the bokeh looks pleasing and it's been able to keep up in the focus department once I changed some settings in camera. I haven't been annoyed at all with the reversed focus and zoom rings and connecting to the app on my computer has been super easy and I've been toying around with settings on it, changing what the button controls and different settings for the ring.I'm not putting it at 4 stars due to my own misplaced expectations, I'm putting it at 4 due to the fact that it's definitely got some things I think could be better, mostly with autofocus in less than ideal lighting, but for the price, you absolutely cannot get better. This lens ties all of my Sigma prime lenses in sharpness and keeps up or beats them with the autofocus in well light situations.

I bought the original G1 the moment it was announced and it has been my most used lens until now. The G1 is still an excellent lens, so if you can't afford this G2, grab a used G1. That'll still be better than anything else you can get for the money. I primarily upgraded for the improved AF and slight reduction to the weight and zoom length. These are important for me as I use this for video on a gimbal a LOT, and those last two factors make it easier to balance.Probably the biggest surprise was how good this lens feels. It feel like a tank. Very smooth focus and zoom rings, almost stiff. As far as image quality goes, I haven't put the two back to back, but I have noticed a little more pop in the images I've been taking with it. I also like that this new lens is now made in Japan.

I LOVE this lens. It is so TACK sharp and Tamron addressed the weakenss of the gen 1 version which was soft images at 75mm wide open. The new version feels more solid overall not that the gen 1 version was a slouch. If you're in the market for a midrange zoom get this one. You will not regret it. Pay a little more and get the new one with no regrets. I've tried the Sigma 28 70. Again soft at the long end wide open. AF wasn't that great. The Sigma 24 70 is on par with the new Tamron optics wise but it's heavy and more expensive. Tamron hit a home run with the G2. It's near prime level sharp.
I do a lot of timelapse photography, and needed a fast, sharp lens in this focal range. This lens is both fast and sharp. It's also a wonderful general-purpose lens for hiking, family and spontaneous shooting (see malt shop duotone panorama). Light, fast, autofocus & everything else works well.I also own several Sony primes including 24mm 1.4 and 135mm 1.8 G Masters. ZThey are considered among Sony's sharpest. This lens gives them a run for the money, at least on my a7iii sensor (24MP). I like a zoom for many timelapses, because it allows me to frame the shot perfectly.I've included two still frames from sunset timelapses. One shows trees on a ridge 9 miles away, the other Catalina Island 90 miles away.Very happy with the results this lens gives. Highly recommend.
I had a few wide to tele lenses before this one, but f/2.8 has become a must for me and since I travel extensively, I didn't look favorably on the much heavier and/or significantly more expensive alternatives out there, the reviews were very positive, and I decided to go for it. I am not disappointed. This is an excellent lens. IQ is great and it is definitely more affordable the Sony's alternatives. I am very happy with this purchase.
BLUF: Great lens, great price, great performanceI'm a huge fan of versatility, so the Tamron 28-75 made a lot of sense for me. Fast aperture for low-light situations & portrait work, focal lengths for most shoots, and great overall sharpness from corner to corner. Not to mention this lens is super lightweight making it great for carrying around all day or gimbal work. The autofocus is very fast, though I do find it hunting every now and then. However, I chalk that up to operator error more than anything else.I've attached some of the shots I've picked up with the lens since acquiring it and I have to say, I'm super happy with the images. 75mm is close enough to 85mm to make standard portraits actually look like portraits, and 28mm is wide enough to capture ... MoreBLUF: Great lens, great price, great performanceI'm a huge fan of versatility, so the Tamron 28-75 made a lot of sense for me. I replaced a Sony 24-105 F4 with this lens and don't regret it one bit. The Sony did have a bit more reach, but it was 20% heavier, one stop slower, and had a 77mm filter thread which would always snag going into my bag. Autofocus and lens sharpness are every bit as good as the Sony. The Tamron is a great walking around lens and combine it with the 17-28 and you have an incredible, light duo for street, architecture, and landscapes. If you are a hybrid shooter, this is a great lens for video too with and combined with something like the A7C/SIII/A7IV, focus pulls work well and look beautiful. The lens is very sharp and the colors look great.I really only have two things that I wish for on this lens which is why it is four instead of 5 stars. The lens is very sharp and the colors look great.I really only have two things that I wish for on this lens which is why it is four instead of 5 stars. First, lens flare is still a little much on all three f2.8 Tamron lenses (17-28, 28-75 g2, 70-180). It can look artistic at times, and some people like it. But I really hate that I can't control it better. Second, I would like a couple more controls on the lens. Maybe an AF/MF switch and I would love a 3 position custom switch like on the Tamron 35-150.
When stopping down to F10 and above (F10 - F22), a noise comes from the lens (maybe the motor). When pressing the focus hold button, the sound stops--but restarts after releasing. I'm using two Sony FX3s (this happens on both of them).Lastly, I sent it to Tamron for warranty repair, and they stated their lens is not guaranteed to work on Cinema cameras, including the Sony FX3. Ironically, I tried it on the Sony A7SIII as well--same issues.
This Camera such a good start for beginners with perfect amount of zoom for wide shots and up close !! With a aperture of 2.8 to really let that light in dos the job very well for low light! Also the fact you cab zoom without the aperture changing is a plus !! Huge shoutout to The man at sony station for helping me find this lens also a body sony A7C i think his name is Leo! Great services at B&H , had good time there wil be coming tomorrow as well for more products as well as a free lesson they provide for hour tutorial for your body purchase. Great experience thankyou B&H!!
