This is a worthwhile recorder but only if you use it in the MANUAL setting - ie where you can use 4 XLR microphone imputs. The addition of 32 bit float is very useful and makes a huge difference when using more high end microphones!I wish there was an inbuilt lithium battery like the DR100 series. Forget using any alkaline or any other batter with this machine because they don't last! You can use a USB C charger but make sure the voltage is correct! It is very important to UPDATE THE FIRMWARE IMMEDIATELY before using the recorder. The microphone PAN settings are not memorised without this update, so make sure you do it in order to avoid frustration having to reset them each time the machine is switched off and on.The microphone pre amps are excellent! This machine has 4 XLR imputs and when phantom power is used there is a separate track assigned for each imput on the memory card.Only select the imputs you NEED to use, otherwise you will waste a large amout of unnecessary memory data. That said, l am very happy with the overall performance of this new recorder.

I'm skipping all the good things and the potentials of this gadget. Those are the reasons I bought it in the first place. However, I haven't been able to make it useful in my music recording use cases, due to the following limitations.1. It gives "Writing Failed" error when recording on top of a backing track. The tech support confirmed that this is a firmware limitation. The problem is that the Punch-in feature cannot add new tracks. The workaround is to enable all the tracks in the backing track, and Punch-in on an existing empty track. I'm still expecting a firmware fix on this after 1.03.2. The ext-in cannot be used at the same time as INPUT 5-6. If I have the vocal and the drum mic'ed to INPUT 3-4, and the guitar and the bass line-in to INPUT 5-6, I CANNOT ... MoreI'm skipping all the good things and the potentials of this gadget. It'd be nice to have a way to save and restore settings.I hope TASCAM can provide some solutions to the above problems.

Very good product as usual from Tascam but not much better from the older models like Dr-40/40x. The new features like 32bit floating, digital output from type c and more inputs (6 inputs) are fantastic . It also has the ability to record individual channels as well mix (L and R). Only downside, it is too pricey but would recommend it if your stream or needs multiple input audio devices without going for traditional audio mixers.
