I bought this assuming that the midi clock function would be tight enough to loop drum loops live.Unfortunately there is probably 20 milliseconds delay meaning the loop looses it timing. The efx also warp the loop when cloned to midi, partictually the hold one.For looping pads and other long tones that don’t have to many transients then it’s fine. The midi clock is good for this application and the slight delay is not recognised. The 2 independent channels is a nice touch and you can switch the set up at the back to have the second loop triggered only at the start of the loop 1 phase, so good for house music application.Overall for the price it works. But I was hoping midi clock performed better

I have never written a review here but felt compelled as may people I see look for recommendations on looper pedals. I've owned several, currently have 2 Boss RC3s, a Ditto Looper (mini) and this unit. This is my second Ditto X4 unit, and it has to go back again to TC for the same issues. This is the first unit I ever purchased Pro CoverAge for so at the very least I get the pleasure of trying to have this fixed again (which I do not want to do but have no choice). I originally purchased in Nov 2016, exchanged for another in December and yesterday started experiencing the same issues as the first one. The first one never worked again, I got the 2nd one back online after about 20 minutes of troubleshooting. 2 - after recording a loop and starting playback, incredibly loud static bursts happen within the loop. Although they randomly start, they stay within the same part on replay of the loop. It is so loud I feared real speaker damage on my Princeton Reverb. I've tried severeL different amps and cords, that's not the problem. I use the factory supplied power cord so that's not the problem. It appears to be a flaw in the circuitry. I'm very disappointed and have had good luck with other TC stuff. Because it's a warranty issue I have to let them repair it and get another one, even though I do not want another 1, 2 was enough. Very displeased, and Pro Coverage which I paid for gave me no other options since it's within manufacturer warranty. Last time I'll ever buy that on a piece of gear. bad experience all around. Pick up a Boss looper if you are interested, TC has many problems here. Google Ditto X4 Static burst and unit lockup and read about it, I'm not the only one.

Okay... so... I bought mine years ago. For background: I'm a long time "looper" and longtime Ditto customer. The OG dittos were a revelation for me getting back into looping: simple, amazing playback, and a great platform.Cut to a few years later and I wanted to loop with digital drums live. I also wanted access to A and B parts as well as "sections" as well as MIDI. I use an Alesis SR16 with the idea of syncing the looper. I can admit to letting the looper sit for months in the box instead of diving in to work out the kinks. Let's just say that there were MAJOR problems: the first show I played the looper went dead on me DURING THE SHOW! I was able to get it to start back on though I had problem trusting it. I started working with it for real and found out it needed a firmware update. I did that... and it worked for a while but then the thing LEGIT died. Like "bricked". I reached out to the manufacturer and mailed it to an authorized repair place in Atlanta where they reseated the SD card. That was several years ago and, actually, it's great now.I think these have so much potential and I HATE giving any product less than 5 stars. I just feel that selling something that has so many challenges to work out isn't right. I'd like to see a complete redesign of the 4X - I'd like to see the "effects" center gone and the three remaining switched spread out with the remaining space for a more space conscious design. The playback rocks, it's all there: just needs some love. I would recommend it if you know what you're looking for.

A little learning curve like any pedal, but once you get the hang of it, it's exactly what it claims to be. It's a tough pedal made strong enough to be stomped on in normal use. More than anything, it's a high quality "bare bones" looper pedal. Cons: No drum machine, no storage for presets, and the erase function isn't instantaneous (takes a split second; gotta practice for timing). Pros: Relatively compact for what you get (not a pedalboard space hog), straightforward high quality looper (24 bit quality versus the Boss RC-300 being 16 bit quality, plus you won't get options paralysis), very affordable compared to the Boss RC series, very sturdy/feels like it can take a beating and keep going for years, and has 2 loop slots Summary: This is best used for a reliable ... MoreA little learning curve like any pedal, but once you get the hang of it, it's exactly what it claims to be. If you want to cough up another couple hundred bucks for the Boss RC-300 that has more built-in features, understand that the extra cost is for those extras, but the RC-300 sacrifices quality to get the extra memory, being only 16-bit versus the Ditto X4 being 24-bit.
A sturdy stomp box and a big one! Check the dimensions if you're short on space. There are a variety of applications for a looper and different users will want different ways of working. The Ditto is thoughtfully designed so that you can configure it and operate it according to your needs. If you want a looper and figure that two channels of stereo is right for you then this can probably be set up to work as you wish, and may well give you ideas for working in ways you hadn't thought of. I truly love the design of this product, don't get me wrong. But the dedicated stop switch is lacking. You have to double tap the stop to truly stop the loop, otherwise it plays until the end of the loop phrase and THEN stops. For a pedal advertised as "the guitarists looper" it seems more geared towards being midi synced with a sequencer, which is great if you overlook the fact most guitarists are unfamiliar with midi and are usually uninterested in using drum machines and sequencers. As a veteran looper, I realize the biggest problem is making loops on time. I've gotten pretty good at looping on time, but the occasional live screw up is still pretty hard to avoid l.With my boss rc20 I would simply record the entire verse, press stop instead of play when I get to the chorus, and solo over the verse after the chorus section, effectively avoiding off time loops altogether by never reaching the actual end of the phrase where the sort of "sound seam" of a loop is, which is always totally noticable if you're not perfectly on time. With the Ditto x4 it instead of incorporating a true dedicated stop, Tc electronics assumed everybody has a metronome sequenced to their looper and designed the stop to work such as that of a sequencer. This is a pretty unbelievablly stupid move in my opinion, considering this pedal is geared towards guitarists, not EDM DJs.I'm not your average guitarist, so I actually am interested in its midi applications. I'm not saying it isn't a neat idea to have midi sync on a pedal, but the pedal shouldn't revolve around that feature. I've been working on finding ways around the lack of a true dedicated stop, like getting good at double tapping on time. Pretty annoying to have to do when the thing has four buttons. Also, they should have made one of the effects simply a dedicated "undo" function. But the design? Perfect. Perhaps they could issue a software update to fix some of the bugs. I would be really happy with TC Electronics I'd they did.
Would have been a 4 star review but my Ditto Looper failed after 9 months . Onboard electronics problem. In my experience guitar pedals last 10-20 years or more , but this is not reliable. Also the USB connection is the slow Mini USB from the late 90's . It should be updated with latest USB C. Other than the above its a great unit and easy to use for live performance .
I’m finding the Ditto X4 easier to use than previous loopers as I use it for live gigs and it seems better suited for this. There are no drum machines to complicate things and it seems more intuitive. I like the dedicated stop button as hitting a button twice in quick succession is always tricky playing live! The FX are really useful too, enabling fades rather than an abrupt stop. The tape stop effect is cool too. On the negative side, there are occasions when the odd button press appears to do something slightly unexpected. Overall I think this is the best looper for live guitarists and I’m having a lot of fun with it. It’s built like a tank too!
DO NOT BUY. I HATE to leave this review. I LOVE the original ditto. I love this too... when it works. I have rarely found a piece of equipment so infuriating. When it works, the sound quality is great, but there are some huge drawbacks. First, at random intervals, like maybe every 12-27th time I use it, I get weird loud white noise bursts. There is no satisfactory explanation on the TC Electronic website. Second, at equally random intervals, it stops working altogether. All the lights turn on and nothing works. Or, the first light will turn on, red, and then the rest will turn on green and nothing works. I have tried everything from unplugging and plugging it back in to downloading and running their new "beta" firmware. All to no avail. Sometimes it miraculously ... MoreDO NOT BUY. Sometimes it miraculously starts working again after a number of tries at "plugging it into the computer, holding down the first position button and then plugging it in" but this is so inconsistent it drives me insane. You cannot rely on this pedal to be a consistent performer. I'm sorry. I want to love this pedal as much as the other equipment I've purchased from TC Electronic, but I can't take it any longer. Buy something else.
I recently purchased the TC- Electronic Ditto X4 Looper (ebay) and it cost me $225. There appeared to be nothing wrong with the looper and it worked well for about 3 months. I just turned it on today and after the boot sequence commenced, all of the lights remained on and the unit no longer functioned. I went to the internet expecting a quick fix via a troubleshoot. But what I found was that I was just straight up out of luck and money. This is apparently a well known issue, and the internet is flooded with people having the same problems. The real kicker is that TC-Electronic is now owned by Music Tribe, and when going to their website, I found that their customer support links would not load. Any number that I found listed as customer support were disconnected. Thus, I was unable to get ahold of Music Tribe/TC Electornic to discuss the terrible product I foolishly purchased. As a side note, I would like to notate that, just as most everyone else on the internet experiencing this issue did, I went through all the troubleshooting suggestions put out by Music Tribe/TC Electronics for this issue. (Unplug the unit, hold down the loop 1 button, plug back in, release loop 1 etc etc....) and nothing worked, nor have I seen any indication on the online threads that these worked for other people either. If you do decide to buy this, make sure it is from a place that has a long warranty because you will need it. I am planning on replacing this with a Boss - RC-1. Please, dont make the same mistake I did. Save your $200+ dollars for something else or at least spend it on a product from a company that you can get ahold of if needed.
