I love the simplicity of the design of this pedal. It has a small footprint and one knob and a toggle foot switch; with a VERY easy learning curve when adding to your chain.HOWEVER- I've already bought TWO and am now possibly may have to purchase a THIRD pedal! As a busy professional, I gig 3-5 nights a week; 3 hour + gigs where I am toggling the boost off and on all night. Based on my experience, the footswitch will die within a couple of months of regular use.It sounds great for the price and with the MAJOR MAJOR exception of it's longevity, it's a solid pedal that would probably last the CASUAL gigger/performer for a minute, but I GUARANTEE you will be replacing this guy some day sooner or later.Obviously it's convenient, because I'm buying another one. The Spark, the little spark is a big improvement in tone. This is a 20db of clean boost tiny pedal. You can crank it up and use it as a boost on solos. Or you can lower the volume and leave it always on and the amp opens up. On a Fender Twin, I leave it on at 9 o'clock it doesn't just make it louder or boost the top end, it lifts everything and the tone is fuller. More highs, more lows, more mids, but not much more volume. On driven or high gain amps it's more of a volume boost. They sell a another model with more features like tone shaping and gain, but for the money it's stupid not to get one for a clean amp, leave it on at 9 o'clock, put it last in the chain, and smile as your amp opens up and comes to life. Or crank it up for raging solos. Long live the spark.

Just buy it. You will instantly love it and never part with in. For this low price it is the most useful, best sound, best everything on my pedal board. You know how you seem to lose some sound quality after you release an OD pedal? Not with this. First, I'm ditching my EQ pedal to make some room. This thing actually EQ's without it even offering the feature. I can see putting 2 of these on my board. 1 before the dirt for a boost and 1 after as an EQ. It makes a tube amp sing with a slight gain boost. Even on 2. One of the things I like the most is it will give me some clean feedback if i want it. Not the kind u hate, the kind you love for sustain. Kudos to you TC Electronics. I don't know what you put in this genie box but I'm in sound Nirvana!

My wife is the guitar player and singer; I'm just her "roadie." We were having difficulty getting enough sound from her guitar to her PA speaker, so I called the manufacturer of the speaker and asked for help. The fellow said that the speaker did not have a pre-amp on the guitar channel and suggested I buy a DI box to boost the sound. So, I researched DI boxes. My wife plays gigs occasionally (we are both retired and she always wanted to try the gig scene, so we are slowly dipping our toes ... um, her toes ... in local pubs).Anyway, the DI boxes seemed like overkill for what we needed and I came upon this little pedal that seemed to be perfect (and not too expensive). Well, my wife was delighted when we plugged it in and she tried it out. So much so, that she named it "Sparky." It performed perfectly at her last gig. It gave her guitar the boost it needed. Please realize that we are real novices at this, so other (more experienced musicians) may have totally different opinions.
I don't know why you haven't bought this yet. It does exactly what it says; it's a transparent signal boost for an incredible price. It's built tough, it takes up very little space, and it belongs on your pedal board for any number of uses. You might notice some sound coloration but only if you really crank it up, and that's probably the amplifier not the pedal itself. It's spectacular for a solo boost, especially if you want a pristine clean tone you just need it a lot louder to cut through. The only thing I could possibly say on the negative side is you can't power it with a battery but that's the tradeoff for using the 'mini' size of any pedal, not just this one.Why haven't you bought it yet?
Very clean with a good amount of Boost. I love the 2-way footswitch that lets you stomp it on or off, or hold it down and turns off when you lift your foot. That hold and lift is super useful for shorter lead runs or accents, but you can still stomp it on for a longer passage or solo. The only issue I had was that it didn't work on a newer Fender Champion 40; I finally realized that the amp is actually a modelling amp and seems to have compression happening in the models that reduces the boost to almost nothing. I changed amps to a regular solid-state amp, and now the Spark does exactly what it should. I'm sure the same would be true on a tube amp too. But, if you have a modelling amp, your results may vary.
Great little pedal. Couldn't be more pleased. It does exactly what it says: it boosts my signal without altering the tone! And it's small, simple and easy to operate. I use it after my Xotic SP Comp and before my overdrive/modulation/delay/reverb pedals, but I might get a second one to put at the end of the chain.Like all TC products, it's built like a tank. Best bang for the $$$ too.
I purchased this 4 knob Spark Booster to use as an eq after compression and overdrive for active bass guitar. I liked the results so much I was able to remove a large preamp from my pedalboard. If you're already happy with your core tone and looking for a great priced subtle eq/boost I highly recommend this pedal. DJ City's price was fantastic, transaction & packing excellent and shipping was reasonably fast.
Paul Gilbert had the idea to use this boost pedal to amplify his "whisper tones." Just put it in your FX loop, or after distortion, and turn it on while picking very softly (only needs to be dialed to 8 o'clock for me). Instantly your passages will become more intriguing, as you can juxtapose screaming leads with soft expressive notes. The primetime setting is perfect for this effect as well. Frankly, this pedal is the "straw that broke the camel's back" in terms of suckering me into making a pedalboard. I've been playing guitar for 8 years and always just used the footswitch for channel/reverb with my amp, but this little pedal swayed me. My only complaint is who realistically needs 20db boost?? 12 or even 8 would have been plenty, but I guess for some people the ... MorePaul Gilbert had the idea to use this boost pedal to amplify his "whisper tones." Unlike a lot of pedals that are stereotyped as a necessity, this can actually improve nearly any player's sound A LOT.
the first boost i tried years ago and sold was an xoitic ep booster but it over colored sound with too much bass and a spiked midrange i couldnt dial out. Finally decided to try again and the spark mini is perfect! very transparent and if anything adds a little clarity, tightness and boost. The good thing is level set to zero is unity gain were the ep boost was +3db gain to start. I use it as always on just above unity to add a little extra tone since i usually play at bedroom levels it helps achieve cranked tones at low levels by pushing the front end of my Marshall tube amp into sweetness. Not really using to boost level or gain just as tone enhancer. another great thing is price under fifty and as good as any over priced boost pedals.Like the one knob simplicity ... Morethe first boost i tried years ago and sold was an xoitic ep booster but it over colored sound with too much bass and a spiked midrange i couldnt dial out. While im still expirementing, right now i like it after my Earthquaker Plumes overdrive for added tone enhancement for clean and dirty tones before my tube amp. Its becoming a vital part of my sound. It takes a nice tube amp and makes it sweeter. Its all analog and doesnt sound harsh or fake like some pedals can sound or digital like. You do have to be careful how you use it,if you overload the front end of amp to much it clips signal and can sound bad just like any over boosted signal so have to find sweet spot between guitar and amp for me is 9-10 oclock setting and less if used with overdrive pedal..Doesnt really push the highs, lows or mids, very balanced tone! A simple pedal that can do simple things that make a difference in a good way, whether you use for clean boost or to boost overdrive its a small amount money well spent for years of enjoyment!
