The TC Helicon VT-C1 Stompbox is designed for vocalist, and singer/songwriters alike. The TC Helicon VT-C1 Stompbox offers seamless pitch correct for your voice during live shows. Use it to stay in tune during a gig or whenever you need a pitch. The pedal allows you to connect your XLR microphone, correct any out-of-tune notes, and feed the mixer or a house PA system, all in real time. Furthermore, the VOICETONE C1 sports a signal path for guitars, letting you tune your vocals to the chords you’re playing. The pedal offers a relatively simple control set. Its Key Selector knob dictates the major key for pitch correction. You’ll note CH printed on the knob’s legend; turn to this setting if you’d prefer to use chromatic tuning, or if you’d like to tune in real-time to the chords you play on your guitar. The mode will change its operation depending on whether you’ve plugged a guitar into the 1/4′′ input. The Off/Hard knob adjusts the intensity of the pitch correction effect. At low values, it provides subtle correction; but you can crank it all the way for a robotic effect. The third knob on the pedal is designed to tune its processing to the formant of your voice. A bypass/engage footswitch turns the effect on and off. A mic input level controller and a ground lift, both located on the side of the VOICETONE C1, round out the controls. The pedal has an XLR input and an XLR output for the mic signal, and a 1/4′′ I/O for the instrument signal path. It’s powered by means of the included adapter. The VOICETONE C1 offers a durable construction to withstand the rigors of the road.

All I can atest for is the C1 really works for me - I'd recommend it to anyone with a need of voice correction. This little device saved my live singing career. I've been singing for over 35 years - weekly at club gigs, on the bigger stage, and at my local church services. Constantly over the years, so one can imagine time would take its toll on the vocal chords. Two separate cases of severe vocal nodules were the worst set backs. I thought my live singing was just about over with and I was only studio bound - the C1 has cured this with its tone correction. No need to strain anymore, and the vocals don't tire out. This thing really saved me.Built strong.I would have paid many times this to get my live vocal presence back.

It's about time that somebody made an affordable, live pitch correction pedal. I've always ran into latency when trying to use Auto-Tune through my laptop during live performances, and the Antares stand-alone rack was way too expensive (as is TC Helicon's other pitch-correction box with other, unnecessary effects I would never need). But this new box takes the cake. They've already released a firmware update to make it even better, and having a gain control on the pedal is a nice feature too. Manual Key slection, or Chromatic/Guitar controlled pitch. Real-time, zero-latency pitch correction. Everything I've been looking for. Great quality, great pedal. Period.

I have always sung a few songs in the several bands I have been in, and enjoy singing almost daily in my home studio. I have a problem with singing flat at times and as a result, when I sing I focus almost completely on pitch to the point of forcing a note just to achieve pitch over quality. I am very impressed with the C1 and it's ability to correct this problem for me. I keep the pitch control around 10 o'clock and it has simply changed everything for me. I hear myself in almost perfect pitch and as a result I sing in a more relaxed manner and focus more on the quality and nuance of my voice. My confidence in my singing has been greatly enhanced (never had much) and the end result is so much better. The final voice that comes out of the PA is singular and sounds completely natural and in pitch! The gender control is not useful professionally, and to me is just a fun little toy. It's the pitch that is professional and worth the cost of the pedal - highly recommend the C1.

I'm just an ok singer and was using the TC Mic Mechanic and liked it. But wanted a more precise correction using the guitar sensor. I would tend to waver a bit on long note back ups and this helped. It will not make you what your not, you have to be very close to the note to sound natural. It does smooth out minor imperfections and can be undetectable if not over used. To replace the Mic Mechanic I went with the singles T1, C1, and R1. I read somewhere that each pedal adds 5-6 ms latency which tends thicken the sound in this setup and produces a more processed studio vocal. These 3 w/o the echo seem to do it for me. There's always room for better so 4 stars.
I am very happy with the C1. I am not a singer, I'm a bass player, but I do need to sing 2 or 3 songs a night with the band. I'm always a little nervous when I have to sing, which may have something to do with my voice sometimes going a little bit flat or a little bit sharp. With the C1 helping to keep me "in key", I've noticed my nervousness going away, so it has helped in a few ways. I keep the tune knob between 9 & 12 and I keep the gender knob at 12. I've been told by people listening that they had no idea I was using a correction pedal, so the transparency is great since I don't want any "effect" sound to my singing. I am considering adding the H1 harmonizer to the loop.
The device is useful but is not a cure-all. You should be a decent singer to start with. If you are not within a half of a semi tone of the target pitch, it will jump to the wrong note. Having said that, it works nicely for simple beatles type harmonies and can really sweeten them up. Using it in a small performance area will produce a chorus effect--your voice mixed with the output of the voice tone. That feels pretty weird and can be distracting. I think running dry monitors and outputting the processed voice only over the mains might be a good way to go but I have not tried it. To do that the mic signal must be tapped before the effect and sent to the monitor mix. A bit of a pain to do. If the voice tone had a "dry" output jack it would be a lot easier. I bought three of these boxes. One per singer. After going back and forth about it I decided keep them. I can see where they would be useful for recording.I did notice some artifacts (faint bump sounds) when running a female voice through it. Probably not loud enough to be noticeable during performance, however. And it not unique to voice tone. Other pitch correction devices can produce artifacts, too. My settings were CH, Off/hard at 9 o'clock and gender at center. The output is very hot and I had to turn the knob down to 8:30 to have any level of control. The general tone seems slightly less clear even with the auto tune turned off...or maybe it is just a bit more compressed. The gender knob is a riot. We could not stop laughing!
This is a well built pedal and it's easy to use. It is however sold as something you can use in a live situation but I don't see how it would work. You can select a key for it to work in, but very few songs stay in the same key all the way through, and you can't change key without manually changing the pedal. I got it because it has an instrument input that is supposed to be able to match your voice pitch to the instrument. This does not work. The results are very poor, and you get no support from TC Helicon. The gender control is unusable. It sounds very unnatural. All in all not a tool I would recommend.
Does exactly what I wanted it to do (subtle pitch correction with virtually undetectable latency) and so very pleased with it. Gender and robotic don’t sound that great to my ears but what I’m not too bothered. Unit is solid and looks road worthy so absolutely no complaints there.Main main (minor) issue with this unit is that phantom power us always on and there’s no way to turn it off (ok for condenser mics but not ideal for normal mics). This seems to cause 2 issues for me - firstly hum/noise with very cheap mics that some backing singers own and secondly PA crack each time you connect/disconnect a mic (not what punters want to hear when you are setting up/packing up) even with normal shure sm58 mics. You're thinking of buying this either to get that artificial "Cher" effect or you just want to pull your slighly off pitch notes onto the correct pitch without the audience realize you're doing it electronically. This pedal does both things very well.If you're like me and are looking for something to fix your pitch you may have searched YouTube trying to find this pedal in action but all you found were vids of people using it to get that Pop music "Cher" effect.Since most of us shopping here are serious musicians I assume most of us are looking to this to correct our singing. This pedal will do exactly that.I consider myself a pretty good singer but there are certain keys that I struggle with or notes in some songs I can't get quite right. This pedal will do exactly that.I consider myself a pretty good singer but there are certain keys that I struggle with or notes in some songs I can't get quite right. Used this on my last gig and was amazed at what it did to fix those problems.I kept both knobs at the 12 o clock position and friends in the audience said my vocals sounded awesome and they could not tell at all that I was using something to fix my voice. From the user's end you will hear a slight doubling effect, which is only because you're hearing what is actually coming out of your mouth and the corrected notes coming thru the speakers at the same time. The audience only hears the corrected notes. I proved this to myself by recording my entire band live thru the board. My vocals sounded totally natural, only more on pitch.I used this by manually selecting the key and have not even tried the function where you can run another instrument thru the pedal like a guitar or keyboard and it pulls the key from that. As a blues guitar player I often bend notes while I'm singing so I thought that function might backfire on me.If you're going to select keys as you go remember that you sometimes need to select a relative minor instead of the key you're actually playing in. You'll probably want to practice with this before you go on stage with it for that reason.Only have two drawbacks. One is that you can not use batteries in this, which in not a concern for most of us, and the transformer that came with this seems a little cheap to me so if it does break you're screwed unless you have aback up ready. The second drawback is that this pedal adds a lot of boost to your signal so you'll have to correct that either at the board on on the pedal itself. Why they couldn't or didn't make this put out the same signal level that come in is beyond me, and I have run sound for bands using other Helicon pedals that did the same thing and my solution after struggling to get these dialed in is to just set the gain on the pedal at 12 o clock and back it off at the board. That works OK for one pedal, but I'm not sure that will work for a bunch of Helicon pedals chained together.Everyone in my band uses the same vocal mic and we self-mix live so I initally was tried keeping the gain setting on the board set where it was when not using the pedal and then adjusting on the pedal but it was too hard to match the natural gain of the other mics consistently so I settled on the solution above as something I could do consistently live.
Works just fine. Until now Ive used a computer with Ableton live and a free plugin (GSnap) to achieve the same thing to do subtle pitch correction on live vocals (which can do up to 8 channels simultaneously i.e. for backing singers). The reason I wanted a pedal was for playing in a different band and who are still on an analogue setup thus no facility for a computer connection. Works just fine. I wasnt after robotic effects so dont use those and knew from reading other reviews than the Gender knob is amusing but thats about all. Just use chromatic and I dont use automatic key detection either as I wouldnt trust it at a gig otherwise very happy with it.
