I've had this phone for awhile now, I actually got it when it first dropped. Every other negative review on here is honest, I've dealt with the screen issues, the sim card issues and more. The camera is a joke and the 50 megapixel it claims to have is atrocious. It is only useful if the subject is completely still.I was excited when this came out as I've got other TCL products and generally consider them a good value. I wasn't expecting this to compete with an iPhone or Samsung flagship product, but I did expect more than I've gotten. I'm frankly shocked that Verizon evensild this themselves.Just a joke.

Every time someone complains about the problems they are having with this device, they get a response from TCL telling them to regularly check for and download updates. Every evening I update all of my apps manually on Google Play and then restart the phone, but that solves nothing. Dropped calls, people unable to hear me when I'm talking, apps constantly freezing, screen not responding to touch, the list goes on and on! One time the phone just kept shutting off on its own repeatedly. I wouldn't recommend this phone to my worst enemy! Finally something more powerful than a 32GB
10 May 2022

I have been trying for a couple years to get a phone other than a 32GB that did not cost an arm and a leg. The cheapest I could find at my local Verizon was over $800 and that was too much for me. Told me I could buy the phone elsewhere as long as it was Verizon so I did. I was ecstatic to get it activated. I was careful not to drop it until I got a case for it, the case came, I was elated. Then I dropped it, and it totally shattered the screen to the point I can't use it. Have dropped my other phones MANY times, and nothing happened. So again I am devastated. I thought the case would protect it better.

I dont right bad reviews, but I felt compelled this time.I have owned cell phones since the second brick phone model in 1990, $699. I have been with Verizon since then, tho they have had many names.I have typically owned Motorola and LG phones. My last LG, the camera quit working, but otherwise it still works perfectly. I had to get a new phone because I need that camera. I didn't want to spend a ton of money. This phone is awful. I'm going to fight to get my money back and get a different phone. It's quirky: many interactive websites do not function properly, my puzzle games lock up...they are not graphic intensive. It's very laggy. Barely works with internet, I typically have to use 5G data instead. Videos will not stream well if I don't have them ... MoreI dont right bad reviews, but I felt compelled this time.I have owned cell phones since the second brick phone model in 1990, $699. I can only clear the open app to make it go right again. And, in case you're wondering, I'm the type of person that doesn't like to have a lot of apps open, so I typically will only have one thing open at a time, maybe two.

I upgraded from a galaxy S10. Main things I was looking for was having the option to use 5g, having a headphone jack, a decent screen resolution, and a decent camera. This is a budget smartphone and will do most smartphone related things that the major brands do, so overall it'll work if that's what you're looking for. The screen resolution and color is good and crisp. It does have a headphone jack. The camera for the the $300 price range really isn't bad. There are a lot of cons for this phone to consider:The fingerprint reader works about 10% of the time and trying to set it up for different apps will usually cause it to crash and close. It's unfortunate, using the fingerprint reader makes things so easy and it's really annoying that it doesn't work. The face recognition to unlock your phone does work, but it's very loose. I used my face with full beard and nothing on, and it will still let me in with sunglasses and beard hidden in a sweater and a hat. It does prevent most family members from using the face recognition, so I don't know use that info how you would like. The phone is decently fast, but it struggles with large files and multiple apps (as well as multiple or large tabs in a web browser). It's not really that big of an issue overall, but there may be times when the phone will freeze on you for a good 2 or 3 mins. There's little to no customization compared to other android based phones. Your tray that holds all your apps can't use or make folders, so you can't group similar apps for quick access. You can sort and group some apps together(rather long process but it can be done) but it still leaves you scrolling through a giant list to get to what you want. You could install another ui to run everything but honestly I'm not sure if this phone could handle it without crashing. The settings menu is pretty lacking, there are some things that you could normally change that just aren't there in this phone. - not a big issue, but takes away from it being an android that's usually customizable. The wifi is kinda tricky. It works but it almost seems like goes into a sleep mode when you don't use it for an hour or so. Clicking the wifi off and on again fixes it quickly, but because the phone thinks it was using wifi, it won't update anything (even through 4/5g). When you do the off on, you'll get all the notifications and updates at once. Never happened with any of our phones, computers, or other devices so I'm pretty sure it's a phone issue. This part isn't a con of the phone, just something to be mindful of. It's a newly released phone, there are almost no phone cases available for it yet except 2 pretty expensive ones through Verizon that should really only be like $10, and some various ones on Amazon that come from china. The china ones are cheap, but the shipping times are around 2 months so if you want a case for it, be prepared to pay out a lot, wait a couple months for shipping, or wait a year or so for case companies to design cases for it.Overall if you're on a budget and want a smart phone, this will do that. Personally the s10 was an all around better phone for me, at least this one was only $300.

More trouble than it's worth

I'm on my second TCL 30v 5g in three months. The first one was replaced when it started telling me that my SIM card is not from Verizon. Hello? I bought the phone from Verizon. So they sent me a new SIM card. Didn't work. They sent me a new phone with no SIM card. I put the previous SIM card in the new phone. It works now, but every now and then it tells me that my SIM card is not from Verizon - again. In addition to that, almost every call I make is dropped at some point. I never had this problem with my LG phone. But wait! There's more! This phone also sporadically sends text messages to a random number. The text it sends out just says "service". My husband's TCL phone does this as well on a daily basis. It drops bluetooth connections all the time. I'm tired of ... MoreI'm on my second TCL 30v 5g in three months. 12 November 2022

Other than some mildly irritating quirky bugs that seem to be associated with the launcher app the phone runs well enough. Battery seems to drain slightly faster than my last phone but the difference isn't significant nor has it been an issue for concern. I am happy with the smooth operation and boot times and time it takes for apps to load, which I found to be comparable to later s-series Samsung models like my last one, an S-21. I would certainly recommend this phone, and as it is my first exposure to a TCL device I now have a forvorable opinion to consider them in the future.

Very unhappy with this phone!
14 September 2022

This is by far the worst phone I have ever owned. I've only had it for 6 months and I'm already thinking of replacing it. The apps are constantly crashing. Battery life is decent, but I don't watch a lot of videos so I can't say that I am really making many demands on it. The phone will often times just spontaneously turn off on me. Half the time the finger sensor on the back doesn't work and I have to wake up the phone by pressing the power button on the side. The camera is pretty good and the pictures seem clear. I also wish it had wireless charging, something that almost all other phones these days have. Overall it's a very glitchy phone. Don't waste your time. Find something else!!

This phone replaces a Moto G Power, that was decent, although it had a bad USB port. The TCL is nice looking and close to the size of the moto, I like that it is a tad narrower. One note to all, you will have a tough time finding a decent case for this. It is too new. The phone seems to perform well in regards to running apps. It does charge fast and the battery lasts quite awhile, obviously dependent on usage. I use a Nova Launcher, and although I was able to set it up to look like my old Moto, I am having an issue with notifications from many apps. I have tried 2 other launchers and still have issues. I am still working through the diagnosing aspect, but next will be a factory reset to try and fix them. Would I recommend to others? Maybe. Also just a note, I ordered this online and picked up in store, then took home to setup. It would never access my data plan. I took it back to store and a tech spent about an hour trying to get it to work with no results. He ended up scrapping it and giving me a new phone. This one went through setup without an issue. Aside from the issues with the apps noted, I am liking the phone.
