Definitely the best budget 4K TV

Giving this TV a solid 5 star rating. For the price range it is in, you can't really fault it. The processor can feel a little slow to load the Android TV OS and the remote feels a bit plasticky but then again, this is a budget TV. I got it on a Black Friday sale for even less so you really can't go wrong with this. Picture is bright, colours are vivid and for me, having Android TV was even better than Roku as I'm already invested in the Google ecosystem and having the built-in chromecast meant I don't need to use a separate chromecast device.

Firstly, when I was looking for a new TV, I was specifically looking for a 55 inch TCL. I had seen the 65 inch TCL in a shop, but just thought it was too big.Unfortunately, it seems that everyone else was also after a 55 inch TCL TV and it was almost impossible to find one that was within my price range.A friend recommended Appliances Online, so I had a look, but once again, most 55 inch TV's were sold out, or above my price range.Anyway, I decided to buy the 65 inch TCL, and I am very, very glad that I did.The TV arrived the very next day and even though I was at home by myself, I decided to set it up.I do not advise this - it's definitely a two person job to attach the stands. Also, make sure that you have a suitable TV console or stand, because this TV ... MoreFirstly, when I was looking for a new TV, I was specifically looking for a 55 inch TCL. The picture quality was great out of the box, so I didn't have to make any adjustments at all.To my eyes, the screen is absolutely perfect - absolutely no issues at all with it.Friends who have seen it, are impressed by it.There is one issue that I have experienced, but that comes with playing back MP4 files that I have stored on a PC running Minidlna.Using the streaming input, it wouldn't play back any MP4 files. But if I ran them through mkvmerge, they would play back.BUT...then I discovered some issues with them, which was that I wasn't able to seek forwards or backwards when playing those videos. I also noticed that the file would stop playing back roughly half way through. I'm not sure why this happened, but I have an untested theory that it might be due to file size (4GB).On smaller MKV files (a few GB) it seemed to work flawlessly, but on larger files, it would continue to stop playing. The larger the file got, the more likely it was to stop playing earlier in the video (which is why I think it's related to file size). The easy way around this was to use something like Plex or Kodi installed as an app on the TV (Android). This allows videos to playback flawlessly, but I did hit a snag with surround sound audio.Using Plex or Kodi (even with the Plex add-on within Kodi), I couldn't get surround sound audio to play from my rear surround speakers. This seems to be an issue not with the TV as such, but seems quite common. In my case, the audio is sent to my receiver using an optical cable, mainly because the HDMI ports on my Yamaha receiver only work after it's been turned on for 20-30 minutes.Plugging my media PC into the Yamaha Surround Sound receiver, which connects back to the TV solves this problem, and surround sound works perfectly. All in all, this TV is fantastic. I absolutely love it, and can't recommend it enough.

I'm not a fan of going off rail and trying cheaper stuff, especially tv,s but I did this time and to be fair it's not that bad, a few issues when setting up and we had a few problems with it resetting itself after setup, then the apps stopped working but after looking in Google for the reasons why and what to do we finally got it up and running. The picture quality is OK but watching football is a bit glitch so had to buy a TV box to run now tv which wasn't glichy, sound quality is pretty awful and not many settings to change it, other than the teething problems and getting used to it, it's OK for the money you pay.

Good value for money, but not perfect.
6 November 2022

I bought this to replace a still working10year old 42 inch Pioneer plasma. Although the TCL has a good image the old plasma is still superior with better colour and depth. However, the plasma costs three times as much to run. The TCL is neat with an almost frameless display area, the legs supporting it are plastic and seem a bit on the flimsy side. The remote is easy to use but it would be nice to be able to program a couple of buttons for a specific opperation. The TCL makes a good second TV.

Great value for money! Terrific picture. Super!
21 April 2022

I bought one of these around 6 weeks ago and believe me its a dream. The colours need patience to get them to your satisfaction but once you figure it out its a piece of cake and brilliantly crystal clear. Loads of free programmes to choose from and the YouTube channel is terrific. The only snag is that there doesnt seem to be a workable microphone function to request programmes and adjust volume, etc, but I think Ill buy an Alexa and do it that way. All in all a wonderful price for a marvellous viewing experience. Dont miss out!

Low price TV that WILL 'ROKU' a month on and I'm still hugely impressed. It arrived well-packaged. The set-up was super supportive, guiding this ol' pensioner on clearly and easily. It's got great picture quality there are SO many free channels and that final Brucy bonus is that it is lean on power too - I really watch the pennies and this 43"s beauty goes more than skin deep. Oh and I am told by a very discerning Xbox user that it is great for games too It's a great product that rok's me every time I switch it on.

Lack of features
26 June 2020

I have just bought this model of TV, and I am very disappointed to find that if you are hard of hearing, and plug in a pair of headphones into the headphone socket, it has the following result. The TV speakers are turned off, so nobody else can hear any sound. (only the headphones work) I then bought some blue-tooth headphones hoping that this would solve the problem, but they behave exactly the same silencing the TV speakers. The result is that you can't use headphones if there is anyone else in the room. If you turn up the volume and don't use headphones the sound necessary to be able to hear, when you are hard of hearing makes it unbearable for people with normal hearing. This is a very bad mistake in the design, and needs consideration if you intend purchasing ... MoreI have just bought this model of TV, and I am very disappointed to find that if you are hard of hearing, and plug in a pair of headphones into the headphone socket, it has the following result. Rubbish
4 April 2024

I set the TV up as per the instruction manual. Turned it on and it was saying on the screen that it was in recovery mode along with some other stuff that i didn't have a clue about. It took me 5 hours on the phone to sort of get things moving. When you purchase a new TV you expect it to work as described. If the TV can't be fixed by a TCL engineer then I'll have to get Very to pick it up and go through the process of ordering it again. For a first time buyer from Very I'm seriously disappointed in them. They haven't offered any money off the TV or any sort of compansation. It has been a total nightmare getting this issue dealt with.

Steal of a tv for the price
13 July 2024

Had a few tcl tv's and they have always been a good brand for me and cheaper than other big names. Delivery was on time and was kept well informed, Installation was literally done in 20mins. Picture is clear. Would highly recommend this beand to others out there as I have had zero problems with this brand and they have lasted 7+ years compared to hitachi that broke after 2.5years.

Worst TV I've had.
25 July 2024

The picture quality is OK... Not great, but for the price it's good. What let's this down is EVERYTHING ELSE. The interfaces are sluggish, the amount of time it takes loading streaming apps. The streaming ability is shocking. (No it's not my broadband) As often have to connect laptop and watch via that. Just cheap possessing parts that can't handle the job. Regret buying, I'd avoid!
