Bit the billet to update my old technics set up and pretty pleased with it.It's not got the umph of my old separates but gives a fair old punch for its size.Have read streaming problems but unfounded and very easy to set up, if you can follow a recipe and programme the dishwasher you will be ok with this.If it's to go in a large room positioning is important as its Looses some stereo effect the more to the side you are, you can alter the effect in the settings a bit as it gives you options like is it next to a wall or in a corner but as a rule I reckon it should go as central as possible.Put a decent radio player on your pad/phone etc and stream it to the unit,it's easy to pair on Bluetooth and saves a lot of messing about if a few people are to use it.Air play ... MoreBit the billet to update my old technics set up and pretty pleased with it.It's not got the umph of my old separates but gives a fair old punch for its size.Have read streaming problems but unfounded and very easy to set up, if you can follow a recipe and programme the dishwasher you will be ok with this.If it's to go in a large room positioning is important as its Looses some stereo effect the more to the side you are, you can alter the effect in the settings a bit as it gives you options like is it next to a wall or in a corner but as a rule I reckon it should go as central as possible.Put a decent radio player on your pad/phone etc and stream it to the unit,it's easy to pair on Bluetooth and saves a lot of messing about if a few people are to use it.Air play works fine and saves you getting off your bottom.I will connect my old turn table if I find I need it? looks straightforward enough.I actually brought a dab aerial but the one supplied works fine so didn't need it,I wish I had read the info sigh.Hopefully this is going to serve me well for a while and be future proof time will tell.?

So, I bought, as did many before me, to replace a separates system. The lack of clutter is great, and I’ve even gotten a Bluetooth adaptor for my turntable so it plays through it. And it’s a great sound, especially when you consider the size. BUT, it doesn’t have the bass that my separates had. Pretty sure my neighbours are relieved but I like my blues and ska, and that stuff only sounds good when you can hear the running bass line. However, once you get over that small issue (and compared to all its other qualities, it really is quite small) you will learn to really enjoy it. Recommended, honestly, but perhaps turn the bass up to 8 for old times sake.

Our old Panasonic separates with Mission speakers finally died after 30 years. Really wanted to keep using our CDs, so this seemed like a good candidate and was impressed with the sound in the shop.Physically it looks like a fan heater but the solid metal top (nicely replicated in the remote) has lovely simple to use buttons. The central display is small but clear and you can change the brightness. Note- the base speaker on the underside is unguarded so care required if you pick the unit up.The sound is excellent. Really surprised and impressed how good it is, with remarkable depth and certainly loud enough to fill our room. There are five speakers in the box but given the physical size, stereo imaging is limited. If you have an i-Phone you can optimise the sound for your room. Easy to do and seems to work really well.CD is excellent (phew). We have streamed using the Spotify option again with excellent quality. Mostly though the OTTAVA™ f SC-C70 has been used for streaming from two Android and one Apple phone using Bluetooth. This made really easy as there is a separate 'pair' button the remote. Using the antenna in the box the DAB works really well. Again there is a separate 'Radio' button and it's easy to save favourites 4- for Radio 4, 6- for 6 Music and so on.On the back there seems to be one of every type of connection you could want. We used the Ethernet Cable option rather than Wi-Fi as it's contested to xxxx round here and it made setup a doddle.Pricey but delighted so far.
I bought the OTTAVA as a study/bedroom system a couple of weeks ago. I have seen mixed reviews and did wonder if I was making the right decision. However, I need not have worried. It is a very solid well built piece of kit. Full of features, seemingly bomb proof operation with excellent wireless and bluetooth connectivity and most importantly great sound. (Solid bass expressive mid range and clear but not harsh highs, plenty of volume with no strain, good sound staging for this type of system. Definitely a premium product in my book. Given that my main system cost over £15k I am genuinely surprised at how listenable I find the OTTAVA. One thing, make sure you download the full instructions and read them carefully to ensure that you get the best out of the system.
Bought for its sound quality and good range of features including CD, Radio, Bluetooth and Internet Streaming all in one box. However, after 5 months it developed a problem, possibly a software bug, with the DAB radio function. It was sent it off for repair, but when the workshop reported that they would need another part which would take a further 6 weeks, Richer Sounds immediately offered to replace our unit with a brand new one. It is now performing flawlessly. Great service from Richer Sounds! We like this unit, depite the hiccup, for its excellent sound quality, CD player and general versatility. Only one small comment, the display is a bit on the small side.
I was downsizing from a 10-15 year old Arcam, B&W 805S system to something smaller, to work together with a 55" OLED TV. Sound bars were out because I wanted something with DAB, and ideally, with integrated CD player, even I had ripped most my CDs into digital files.Choices for quality sound with these requirements became very limited. I had to reluctantly eliminate Naim Muso 2 and B&W Wedge. That left me with Ruark 5 and Technics. Ruark 5 had just 2 front facing speakers plus a down firing woofer, the sound was pleasant and mellow, reminded me of my old Quad valve equipment. The styling was also a bit too "classic" for me, even I myself is a senior citizen !So I opted for Technics and it did not disappoint, the sound had a sparkle to it, more than adequate ... MoreI was downsizing from a 10-15 year old Arcam, B&W 805S system to something smaller, to work together with a 55" OLED TV. The styling was also a bit too "classic" for me, even I myself is a senior citizen !So I opted for Technics and it did not disappoint, the sound had a sparkle to it, more than adequate power for a sizeable room, worked perfectly for CD, DAB, optical from TV and Bluetooth from my phone and tablet. Styling was a talking points, to the uninitiated, from the front under a shelf, looked like an impressive high power amplifier !My only small criticisms were the initial WiFi setting up was slightly painful, it was not intuitive, I had to read the instructions twice. The display texts could be bigger and less cluttered, and there was no volume normalisation when switching between sources. Highly recommended !
Bought this to replace a 30 year old multi piece hi fi unit that had seen better days. Wanted good sound without the hassle of speakers and wires as well as the ability to move it from room to room. Did lots of research, neede the ability to play cds (still have lots) play from usb as well as radio.Only downside is the small display which requires you to sit close to when setting up (do read the instructions or you will get frustrated). Perhaps youngsters can set it up easily but us oldies do strugle with the internet / router etc codes for this and that. If you read the instructions is does set up automatically and connect to the router!!Especially good value now that the mark2 version has come out.
We purchased the SC-C70 some two or three weeks ago. Previously we had installed hi-fi separates, amplifier, tuner, cd player, DAB radio playing through B&W speakers all which frankly dominated our little lounge area and as such we felt the need to update, upgrade and downsize to a compact system that at the very least would match this previous set up. We considered Bose (rather bright) and Ruark but after reading various reviews we questioned (rightly or wrongly) reliability and service backup. Looking again at the John Lewis site we found the SC-C70 which took our interest solely on the fact of it being a Technics manufactured product - quality plus Japanese reliability. Looking again at the John Lewis site we found the SC-C70 which took our interest solely on the fact of it being a Technics manufactured product - quality plus Japanese reliability. Unfortunately at the time JL were out of stock. A week later JL emailed to advise of it now being in stock but not in store this being case there was no opportunity to carry out an audition. As such and totally out of character decided to make the purchase on product reputation alone and we are very pleased to have made that decision. I would suggest to anyone about to make such a purchase to consider the SC-C70 albeit an expensive purchase. However having said all that there are two a small downsides in that the DAB Radio will require a good aerial in areas of poor reception (normally the case) and operating instructions leave a great deal to be desired with no reference at all to certain functions on the unit. The manufacturer advises owners that for further full information to refer to the Technic's support website. Unfortunately the SC-C70 is not (to-date) to be found on the website. Nonetheless the basic instructions are there and as such so do not be deterred - the SC-C70 is in our opinion a gem in terms of form, sound and function.
I have always had "high end" hi-fi. The equipment I own consists of big separates on a metal rack and massive floor standing speakers. Since getting Spotify/Amazon Music 6 months ago it has gathered dust as music tends to get streamed to Alexa devices throughout the house. So I looked for an alternative. I still wanted a CD player. I narrowed it down to 2 choices, this Technics OTTAVA f SC-C70 and the Ruark R5.I was able listen to both on demo. I liked the Ruark R5 a lot - a very smooth laid back sound a bit like a valve amplifier. It looks like a bit of furniture (which would appeal to many)Long story short the Technics SC-C70's vibrant sound, super cool looks, incredible build quality and multiple functions made it the choice for me. It looks like a bit of furniture (which would appeal to many)Long story short the Technics SC-C70's vibrant sound, super cool looks, incredible build quality and multiple functions made it the choice for me. The top loading CD has retro feel and is reminiscent of a vinyl turntable. But what a sound. I'm VERY critical but this unit is extremely impressive. Big open sound, subtle controlled bass.I've paired an Echo Dot via Blutooth which has added voice control and Amazon Music to the SC-C70 as well as integrating into the home Echo network. Spotify is built in ( as is Tidal)A few points for potential buyers.Use the "browser method" of connecting the unit to the internet via wifi ( I simply couldn't get the other methods to work). Then do the Firmware update immediately. It solves a few problems (such as lack of Internet Radio, and a few stability issues). The aerial supplied is useless. Get a stand alone DAB Ariel such as the Philex 27741HS or if you are in a good reception area a screw in telescopic with an F type connection. It will NOT transmit to a set of Blutooth headphones. If you fancy a good wired set of headphones , the AKG K702 match the Technics retro looks and sound incredible.Space Tune - Even though the unit is against a wall, I think the "Free" profile sounds best - "Wall" sounds muddy to me.In summary if you want a compact system, that fills a good sized room with high quality sound look no further.
