I got the original universals back in 2019 (a different design - part of their festival line). Now, over three years later and through many adventures of hiking, water crossings, backpacking, music festivals, and good old errands and attending classes -- my Tevas are holding up beautifully!When I initially purchased them, I was worried that the foam would wear down, but my Tevas virtually show no signs of wear (other than the usual conforming to my foot) and are still so comfortable. TEVAS ARE A MUST BUY! I still get compliments on them all the time -- my tevas are truly my prized possession and I cannot recommend them enough!!

I ordered these shoes super last minute before heading off to Europe. They were amazing!! I was concerned that I hadn't broken them in but I didn't have any issue with them at all and was walking 30k + steps a day in the European sun. For someone with quite flat feet, I found these shoes to have enough support although they definitely provide a cushioned barefoot feel. In addition to this, I also have quite slim and narrow feet and sometimes struggle to find shoes that fit well but the adjustable straps on them were perfect. Honestly going to live in these shoes during summer!!

I bought this as a shoe that would work being worn to social gatherings, pair with dresses, hiking, and playing in water. And it has succeeded in all of those. I've received many compliments on the colors and people surprised about hiking with them; but when I hiked, I was the only one who got to go into the water. When wet I just adjust the straps a bit and it dries pretty fast even while walking. I finally splurged and got these and I'm going to have to return them.There is no padding/cushioning inside any of the straps, which means chafing. I wore these up to the grocery one block away and back and I was already developing a blister because of the straps at the toes rubbing against the inside front of my right foot. The strap is placed so it's right against the bone and there's no way to avoid or reposition it. Instant problem. I've never experienced this in a Teva shoe before, not in more than 25 years of wearing them. You can slide right across tile/linoleum with no effort - I nearly slipped and fell on the way to the elevator in my building. This is just no good at all. I buy Tevas for a reason.Finally, these sandals just feel cheap. The Universal Trail is also light and feels less solid than they used to before Teva started using these new materials, but you can tell it's a good shoe, and the traction is great on smooth surfaces, plus there is the cushioning.There's just no reason to strip this shoe from the traction soles or padded straps. They're not trail shoes, but one must still walk in them, and these two flaws combine to make that a painful and even hazardous endeavor.Finally, I'm upset because I can't order other styles or any men's shoes at all with this pattern, and I can't order most women's styles in just plain black without some kind of stripe or other colour involved. This is problematic. As I said in my other review, shoes do not have a gender. I would like to order any shoe in the pattern/colour I like. But especially please make solid black an option in all women's shoes. It's unbelievably sexist not to.
In the past I have shunned away from Teva's because of the style. This year they seem to have stepped up their game with some cute additions to the classics. However, they fact still remains that the top interlocking plastic they use in all of their designs is actually really uncomfortable. If you ever walk on sand with these shoes you will get sand under where the triangle plastic piece hits your foot. And for those of you who know what happens when any debris gets in there... Yup. Blisters. Every time! They are nice for city walking due to the amount of rubber cushion on the sole. But, totally disappointed as I had blisters the entire time I was in Mexico.
Love this product for every day use, going outside, and other casual outings. I did wear these to a music festival (8+ hours), and toward the end, my feet did hurt a bit, but I wanted to compare them to the other sandals I have worn to a festival (not Teva brand), to see what would work better in the future.I would recommend the TEVA thicker platform, or ones with arch support if you are planning on taking these on long days/festivals/touring and walking around. These are perfect for my every day use though. Love the pattern and color. I have 5 friends who have the same matching TEVAs so they are definitely loved by all.
I bought these right before going on a sailing trip to the British Virgin Islands so I could bring just one pair of shoes, and this was an excellent choice!! I'm so happy I bought these in time. They were great for all occasions during the trip - running around on the boat deck; swimming to shore and walking/hiking the islands; wet dingy rides to shore for drinks and food; they looked cute in swim suits, dresses, shorts, everything. They didn't hurt at all and there was no "break in" period for me. They stayed secure on my feet and were easy to adjust. Great purchase and looking forward to wearing these on my next adventure!
I love these sandals. I own these and Chacos and while I love the style of my Chacos, the comfort of the Teva can't be beat. Plus I love the Sand Dune color - they go with everything! They're also SO easy to put on and easy to wear. No weird toe gripping thing like you have to do with flip flops, and you can adjust them however works for you. My toes are wide but my heels and ankles are slim and these work great. In regular shoes I typically have to size up to get more room in the toe box, but I wear a 7 in these and they're perfect.
I don't think these are actually a replica of the original river sandal, which I purchased many, many years ago. I purchased that sandal and appreciated its arch support. This newer version seems to have no arch support whatsoever with a very flat footbed. In addition, I've noticed among sandals and shoes in general that, as they get wider and wider and expect the straps or ties to make it fit for a narrow foot, even if they have "arch support", the shoe is too wide to provide me with any significant support. Hate that. Other than that, the sandal is fine - always liked Teva - but not sure if I would purchase again because I need a flexible arch support.
