The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition is a republished version of the original game from Bethesda. The game is about the player's character, who get caught in Tamriel by the Imperial forces, but suddenly a dragon shows up, which didn't happened for some time. The character has to fight against those creatures and also pick sides if it's necessary. This is probably THE GAME which I should not talk about it too much, because almost everyone knows it... but I want to make a fair enough review from the game. One of the best thing in this game is most likely the sound and music. Voice actors mostly doing fine.Something which I need to address, is the gameplay. This is a RPG, where you got an inventory system, character upgrades, skill upgrades, different magic types, weapons, looting, sneaking and lot other. This game is well detailed, and you can make your character quite well. There are different breeds too. The game itself not force you to do the main quest line, you can go to freely explore the whole area which filled with side quests, NPCs who are doing their daily jobs, dungeons, camps to take over or learning something new, beautiful areas and lot other. You can learn making potions, making your own equipment, trading, stealing and lot other. There are so much to do in Skyrim. Of course, you can say that, for example dungeons are repetitive, like camps or some side quests boring or buggy. The DLCs for the Special Edition gives more depth, but also ramping up the difficulty. About that, the difficulty is really important to set it right, because for a casual playthrough, you don't want to play higher than normal. I played Skyrim on Expert, did the main questline and lot other quests too, and it was damn hard. The beginning was definitely hard, and doing the main quest, also fighting with some "bosses" in dungeon was difficult, so at least this is well made. Long story short, Skyrim has tons of content for like 80-90 hours, some of them buggy, some of the not that interesting, but awesome to have!Time to talk about the story. Well, it's not really easy to talk about it, because there is a lot going on. In general it's fine, the main conflict is the returning of the dragons, but as I mentioned the amount of content in the gameplay, there is maybe twice as much story you can get with the side quests. Different story lines, factions has so much to do. In general as I said before, it's awesome to have this amount, some of them bit silly, but most of them awesome. I liked the stories and most of the quest lines I played with. What about the graphics? This is one of the main advertisement for the game, it got reworked. It looks awesome indeed, but to be honest, the textures still feels a bit old. Some graphical bugs still in the game, looking through models or characters, but really, I can't complain about it too much.Last to talk about the controls. In general, I was scared of this, because for me it was annoying to get use to the controls, but now it wasn't that bad. It's not that easy, you need some practice, if you are not use to play lot of games, but not impossible.

Skyrim is basically the go-to game in its class. The underlying game is great, and part of a long series of Elder Scrolls games that have more or less set the bar for what a fantasy RPG/adventure game should be, with each release in the series. It is not perfect; if you want it perfect, you have to mod the game extensively, but doing so has been worked out to pretty much a science at this point (Google for "S.T.E.P. Skyrim"). A well-modded Skyrim is pretty much the only game you need for an entire year or three. :-) Skyrim with the best mods is an almost overwhelmingly rich game world, and many of the mods will make the interface much better, the game mechanics less grindy, fix a lot of bugs, allow essentially infinite customer, outfit, and NPC customization, and ... MoreSkyrim is basically the go-to game in its class. If you have a "potato" machine, stick to Skyrim Legendary Edition, play it at pretty low settings, don't go too wild on the mods, and use a texture compression utility like DDSOpt, and various anti-crash mods, to keep the game stable. If you have a high-end Mac or Linux box, you can even run Limited Edition in a virtual machine without too much pain, but I have not been able to do this with Special Edition.Skyrim Special Edition (SE) is bit thorny for current users of Legendary Edition. SE was not nearly the upgrade people hoped for. The graphics are not THAT much better. The stability IS (it is 64-bit, and doesn't suffer the ~3GB limitations of the original 32-bit game, which tended to result in a lot of crashes as VRAM and then RAM filled up with all of its graphics and meshes, especially after modding in a bunch of new NPCs, gear, and creatures). Also, the underlying formats of the data files changed in some cases. This broke the vast majority of mods. Several years later, the modding community has mostly caught up. The key mods have mostly been converted, and there are many SE-only mods that don't exist for the original Skyrim Legendary Edition (LE or "Oldrim"). However, some modders have refused to permit their work to be converted and some have simply disappeared and can't be asked. So, your heavily modded LE cannot be completely recreated in SE. It's just necessarily going to be a somewhat different game. Worse, Bethesda themselves keep breaking all the SE mods by releasing updates to the game engine that break compatibility with Skyrim Script Extender SE and other "frameworks" of the modding community. So, it is important to back up your game binaries, because Steam can push an unexpected update and totally break your game. You basically have to run this game from start to finish in the version that you downloaded and started with, or start over with a new character after a bunch of mod patching, if you want to use the bleeding edge version of the game engine. Fortunately, these Bethesda pushes are much less frequent as of 2019 onward.Anyway, as for the game per se: If you've enjoyed The Witcher series and similar games, or previous Elder Scrolls games like Oblivion and Morrowind, you'll love Skyrim. Same goes for if your first Elder Scrolls experience has been The Elder Scrolls Online. You can play first- or third-person, and switch between them. There are tens of thousands of mods. If you want to make the game world look like anime, or a Playboy party, you can do that. If you'd rather it focus on survival and necessities management, you can do that. If you'd rather just conquer the entire game world and be the new emperor, there are mods for that, too. There are even mods for focusing on romance, guild-building, or more intensive faction-based true roleplay. And they're free. ESO players who wish they could change things up a bit (or a whole lot) will love Skyrim, which is visually about as good (especially with graphical upgrade mods), but a much more open world. (If you end up missing interaction with other players, get some custom-voiced follower mods). Also, old-school D&D tabletop RPB players who haven't really gotten into fantasy video games but are taking a look during the global "human malware" pandemic: this is the game for you. You can even add D&D-specific creatures and races like beholders and the Drow.

I've got Oldrim, SE, xbox360 version and switch version. Add this to my list. It's regular old Skyrim but in VR, so obviously it's going to be a 5 star rating. Some people aren't the biggest fan of the basic VR version and suggest mods to make it playable, but it's still great bare bones. With mods however, it IS so much better. I play on an Index so utilizing the finger tracking with mods was great. It's great to finally be able to use a bow and arrow how I always wanted. One of the reasons I got the switch version was because the commercial made it seem like I could pull the string back and shoot. You cannot. THIS however, you can. This was a well worth it purchase.

This game has that almost undefinable “it”factor. It has that “one more turn” appeal. The combat is simple, which is great for people who aren’t the most dexterous. You can focus like a laser beam or wander around aimlessly. You can keep trying to find a way not to get killed by being creative. Most importantly, it it simply immersive like a great book. As an added plus, an incredible community of modders. At 60 years old, the first open world game I have ever loved.

This a classic game where you can choose many paths to follow. After many years of gameplay, it's still a huge challenge for me to play all different choices to make in the game. You can play as a thief, archer, magician and so on. Enough choices to make but also many choices in race and weapon of choice. If you ever get bored with the graphics, you can start modding the game. If you, for instance, have a 4K or 8K screen, you can mod it into the most stunning graphics ever. Since a group of people created SKSE, you actually get pretty realistic animated movements in the game which gives this game an instant boost in graphical impact. Of course, a massive powerful graphic card is needed when you go for 8K graphics but there is so much available that for everyone a graphics improvement is always available, especially if you have a 1060+ or higher video card. Now most important is that you look at some available gameplay videos and see if you like this concept. I bet most of you will not be able to play every choice there is in the game. Simply because playing each choice until the end will take you a while. And I am not even talking about all the side quests there are in the game, which can distract you even longer from finishing one storyline.I have this game in both the original version and the SE edition and still like to play the game, but I admit mine is heavily modded with darn beautiful graphics at 4K, so my characters almost look real. If you do not play this game once, you're kinda missing out on one of the best games available. So I agree with almost every reviewer that this is one of the classics you should not miss to play.

A Bit Clunky, but Scarily Addicting
30 May 2023

I have somewhere around 40hrs in this game and I quite like it. It's not my usual cup of tea, but I have fun being a menace in the simulated society. My dad however, is a completely different kind of player. He was curious about it one night when he saw me playing for a bit. I set him up on my guest account creating a character and I basically lost my Switch for an entire month after that!!So, I bought him this physical copy and we transferred his save data over (fairly easy process btw, thanks Nintendo). He's now somewhere in the 50s with his orc werewolf and has nearly completed the entire map! He's an OG WOW player from back in the day, so I'm not surprised about his ability to grind and the bizarre little exploits he's managed to find embedded within the ... MoreI have somewhere around 40hrs in this game and I quite like it. Something special for sure.

Great Game - However be careful with used PC games
28 October 2022

First off, great interactive game with hours and hours of gameplay in the Medieval setting with an open world exploration. Dragons and trolls and bandits, crazy fun adventure. However beware where you purchase this game, I "bought" for a great price that supported donations, but the product I received was a used copy with an invalid product key (needed to install the game). Because the key was already used I could not install this game therefore my purchase was a literal donation as the disc is useless without it. I do own copies for consoles, just wanted it on PC. Great game regardless.

Skyrim V The Elder Scrolls Special Edition, truly a classic & must have for video game fans out there & the best version of Skyrim out there. The graphics are amazing & so is the action. The visual graphics make you feel like your actually in it. The combat against your enemies is simply amazing. There is alot of DLC to be aquired if this is your type of game. If you see this version out there & the price is right, this is definitely a must have for any video game collection!
