Beautifully binded and they have a silky, sewn-in page....marker¿Package arrived rather promptly but packaging was so, so. Please take further care when shipping hardcover format books.

This is a beautiful edition of these classic works. Fine paper, strong bindings, beautiful, well-reproduced illustrations. The Hobbit is particularly attractive, as it has line illustrations throughout. The books fit snugly in their box and are lovely to handle.I have loved The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings since childhood-I can hardly offer an objective review. If you're a fan like me, you'll love these books. If you've never had the pleasure of reading Tolkien before, and you don't mind risking the price tag, this is the best way to experience the books. The illustrations will probably look quite familiar. They are by Alan Lee, who was the concept artist for Peter Jackson's famous films.

I received these as a belated birthday present, and I was speechless when they arrived at my house.These are by far the most beautiful books I have laid my eyes upon. The quality is top notch, the illustrations and eye for detail are impeccable which perfectly complement the story told by Tolkien.I have always wanted a nice set of these book and this definitely ticks that box.Only negative, the ribbon bookmark in The Hobbit was detached upon looking inside the book after taking the plastic off around the set.No other negatives, this set is simply amazing and a must need for any Tolkien fan.

This is the best set of LOTR books I have owned so far. The presentation inside the books is very good. Thick paper, nice colouring on the page numbers. The plates are interesting. Given that the plates predate the movies it seems like they have been inspirational there. The binding seems strong, I like hard covers for books I permanently keep.The only let down is the external presentation. I don't like the jackets much. The hard covers themselves are not very premium in comparison to a version of the hobbit I have. That one has a gold inlaid smaug symbol. I would have greatly appreciate a bigger size. Maybe like a4 paper size. Most of us would have had paperbacks to read before but in this premium version I wanted larger.I love this set but will buy another ... The books and box set are the perfect size/look for a shelf. They're not too small like most other bindings and are not too large to hold while reading them. As for the story, well it is one the greatest in all of human literature. #sweepstakes

One of the books (The Hobbit) was damaged on the inside of the front cover : the paper was ripped out in the top left hand corner. Also, two books were a bit damage in one part due to the shipment
I have always wanted to reread Tolkien's great epic adventure. I also wanted a set that reflected the wonder of the story. This set is it. It is simply stunning, beautifully illustrated and superbly bound. A truly epic addition to my library.
