A mysterious kidnapping On a hot summer night, a scientist from the Centers for Disease Control is grabbed by unknown assailants in a shopping center parking lot. The authorities are desperate to save the doctor who’s been vanished into thin air. A devastating explosion One month later, the serenity of a sunny Sunday afternoon is shattered by the boom of a ground-shaking blast—followed by another seconds later. One of Atlanta’s busiest and most important neighborhoods has been bombed—the location of Emory University, two major hospitals, the FBI headquarters, and the CDC. A diabolical enemy Medical examiner Sara Linton and her partner Will Trent, an investigator with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, rush to the scene—and into the heart of a deadly conspiracy that threatens to destroy thousands of innocent lives. When the assailants abduct Sara, Will goes undercover to save her and prevent a massacre—putting his own life on the line for the woman and the country he loves.

This is the ninth book in the Will Trent series, and it's better to read them in order. If you've read the others, you don't need me to tell you how great Karin's books are. If you haven't read the others, I suggest that you read them in order (starting with Triptych) but it's not necessary. Better still, read the 6 books in the Grant County series first, which predate the Trent series, and several characters are in both series. I've really enjoyed all of her books.

Great price! Happy with my purchase
Only half way through, but super book great story very hard to put down. This is a change from my usual choice of books, but well impressed, Have to hurry now finish my chores so I can get back to my reading..
It pains me to say this, as I am a HUGE Karin Slaughter fan, but this was my least favorite Slaughter book to-date.I have always loved the Will Trent/Sara Linton series, but this one just didn't grab me and keep me reading 'til the wee hours of the morning like the others have done. I hate to say it, but Will and Sara's relationship almost bores me now - maybe I just miss trainwreck Angie - but something is definitely missing. In The Last Widow, Will is a bit too lovestruck, and Sara is almost too perfect. At times, I found myself wishing Will would finally see Faith as his better match. I also was not a fan of how this one started out with the same scene being repeated through multiple points of view. I also was not a fan of how this one started out with the same scene being repeated through multiple points of view. The same conversations were repeated multiple times, and it seemed rather a waste of time. The plot moved at a snail's pace throughout much of the book, making it a tedious read at times, and I found myself skimming through the repetitive sections. Finally, I feel like I am once again beating a dead horse, but I'm so over the over-politicized hot buttons being used in every book lately. There are "bad guys" on both sides of the political aisle; but in this book, unless you are Will Trent, all white males are ignorant, arrogant, ex-military, brain-washers of white females - oh, and not only are they all evil, they're all pedophiles too (eye roll). It was way too much.Overall, The Last Widow was a major disappointment. Here's hoping that, sooner rather than later, one of my all-time favorite series will return with Slaughter's usual style and substance, because I'm close to saying farewell to this series! 3 stars.
I am a big Karen Slaughter fan, and have read a number of her books. This is one of my favourites of hers so far. I like the characterisation of Will Trent.
Kindle died. Replacing books of the authors I really like. Happy as cheers
The Last Widow is the ninth book in the Will Trent series by American author, Karin Slaughter. A month after Michelle Spivey is taken from a carpark in front of her daughter, Sara and Will rush out from a lazy Sunday family lunch to give aid after two explosions on the nearby Emory University campus. But before they can get anywhere near the site, they are assisting at an apparent traffic accident. Except that both soon realise that something is amiss. The presence of the kidnapped woman is less surprising than the fact that her kidnappers take Sara.Sara may be captive, but she is determined to leave a trail for Will if there's even the slightest opportunity: she knows without doubt that he will be looking for her. She just has to stay alive until he finds her. ... MoreThe Last Widow is the ninth book in the Will Trent series by American author, Karin Slaughter. The presence of the kidnapped woman is less surprising than the fact that her kidnappers take Sara.Sara may be captive, but she is determined to leave a trail for Will if there's even the slightest opportunity: she knows without doubt that he will be looking for her. She just has to stay alive until he finds her. While Will tries to convince his GBI boss, Amanda Wagner to let him infiltrate the group they believe has Sara, his partner, Faith Mitchell has been delegated to liaisons with FBI that Amanda doesn't want to attend (is Special Agent Aidan Van Zandt flirting with Faith? Or does he just want information?).Once again, Slaughter gives the reader an action-packed page-turner. The narrative, running over just a few days, is from three perspectives: Sara, Will and Faith, with each view filling in details not covered by the previous, thus completing the picture. As well as featuring the possibility of biological terrorism, the story includes a semi-religious separatist group, white supremacists, paedophiles, and a nasty misogynist who gets just what he deserves.Slaughter is expert at building the tension and then providing relief by way of the clever and often darkly funny banter between the characters. And if Will and Sara thought they knew it before now, this experience certainly distills what they feel for each other, and makes clear to her family just how important Will is to Sara. Will's final words will please many fans. Another excellent Will-and-Sara instalment.
