The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe has enchanted readers for generations and now will delight younger children as a picture book. Brought to life through Christian Birmingham's stunning illustrations, this is a magical winter story for all the family. When Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy are sent to stay with a kind professor who lives in the country, they can hardly imagine the extraordinary adventure that awaits them. It all begins when the children explore the professor's rambling old house. When they come across a room with an old wardrobe in the corner, Lucy opens the door and gets inside. To her amazement, she suddenly finds herself standing in a wood, with snowflakes falling through the air. Lucy has found Narnia, a magical land of fauns and centaurs, nymphs and talking animals and the magnificent lion, Aslan. They are joined by the beautiful but evil White Witch, who has held the country in eternal winter for a hundred years. Christian Birmingham's exquisite illustrations bring the world of Narnia alive and provide the perfect setting for the carefully abridged story. It is a classic in its own right and a magical doorway to all the stories within the Narnia Chronicles.

As a child I just loved this book but as an adult revisiting it I can see why it's so important. Its even better than I remembered. I cannot praise C.S.Lewis highly enough. The man was a mystic and a genius genius. I recommend this book to anyone, especially those who may have chosen to watch the adaptations instead.

Very disappointed as thought it was the full book, turns out its the kids version only 10 pages or so. Shame as wanted to read the full story to my son.

Classic read for all ages. Book 2 after the magicians nephew. This is more of Introduction into the world of Narnia .part of the set the chronicles of Narnia. And guess what it does? have a lion a Witch and a very special wardrobe. Four siblings enter a strange and violent world and each discover new strengths and weaknesses. A story that has stood the test of time. I bought to replace the original and holds special memories for both me and my son. it was part of the set bought for me back in the 1970s.I passed them on to My son has enjoyed them and its a part of growing up being able to read independently and discuss the plot etc with adults who had the same experience as children is something magical.
This edition is published for Scholastic and is larger than another set I owned. (I lent the other set out and it was never returned) These are probably the best children's books written. There are even a large number of fanfiction stories on fanfiction(dot)net - Warning! some stories there are not suitable for children.
In reviewing The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe what else can I say that hasn't already been said about this classic book? After hearing so much about the book from friends my whole life I'm now happy to say I've read it. No it's not a favorite (fantasy isn't what I most enjoy reading). But I do like the analogy of how it sheds light on the Christian life. (Although I'm still confused on how Santa Clause fits into the picture?)For me it was an interesting read and I do plan to continue with the Narnia series and see where else it takes me.
One of the best childhood memories I've read in a long time. Just love the story itself and am glad to add it to my collection of books! Love all the fantasy and just love reliving the story with all the wonderful characters when I heard the story as a young child. I am sure my daughter will enjoy it when she has time to read it as well.Highly recommend everyone reads this book!!!!!!
Fabulous! I can't wait to re-live my childhood reading this with my 6 year old son.
...It's pretty obvious that these books are allegorical. Even if you don't know who C.S. Lewis is I think it probably doesn't take a genius to figure out the religious representation throughout this book (and the others). I don't follow a Judeo-Christian path personally and I have no problem reading this; it's not at all preachy or so obviously Christian that it reads like a rewritten Bible story or something. So regardless of your own religious affiliation (or if you aren't religious at all) The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe is an excellent choice if you want to sit down for a couple of hours for a fun light story of magic and adventure...For full review please visit me at Here Be Bookwyrms on ... More...It's pretty obvious that these books are allegorical.
