Well... This collection is a classic anyway!, but now so much better!!!, thanks to Blu-ray!. Lots to watch too, with 2 discs for the movie and plenty of bonus material on 3 extra discs for each movie. It comes in extremely handsome packaging too. This was a great purchase. The sound and picture are amazing on Blu-ray!... Pure 1080p!

A jaw dropplng experience, blue ray brilliance.

The blue-ray 3 disc edition completes my set of book and VHS tape. No disappointment here, it is a superbly crafted film and provides scenes of clarity that would have been unobtainable 10 years ago. Blue ray works for me and is invariably better than the normal Dvd product but I would never pay retail markups for this item, major supermarkets take note. Check out Ebay first, I bought mine for a tenner + postage. Bargain of the year.

A must-have!

I was hoping it had the extra scene included, but it's "only" the theatrical version. However, the quality is great, the surround DTS-HD 6.1 is awesome and this box is packed with extras, short movies, make overs and documentaries. Considering that the extended version is sold for four time as much as this (plus shipping), it's a must-have bargain. For 15 pounds, shipping included, do yourself a favor and buy it :)

Blu-Ray... another dimension.
19 November 2011

Blu-Ray really brings the best out of this series of movies., although the first one lacks sharpness in places. I do have an 8 foot screen to watch it on though so if you're watching on a TV I would suggest this would not be a problem. I don't think it is the quality of the blu-ray that is to blame, but more the camera person on occasions has not got the focusing spot on. As always with blu-ray, the colour depth and accuaracy is stunning, together with the window rattling sound (sorry neighbours!). I'm not a one for watching bonus material so I am not reviewing the 3 bonus discs. A lot of people say "good value for the price" for many boxsets of many genres, but I'd pay more for this particular boxset given the shear legnth of movies along, never mind all the extras.

LORD OF THE RINGS BLURAY
31 January 2011

As soon as I received the pack, took it out and pushed the Fellowship of the Ring inside my PS3, and the wait for it was finally over. As the movie begins with history and the shire, the quality of bluray comes into view. With the green and the nature all around the shire showing a real life perception, the bluray shows us the real meaning of it. The dark second film Two Towers, the visual aspects of the movie is portrayed via deep sense of colors. With a solid transfer depicting visual effects as it is in real life the disc was fantastic. And the third movie, The Return of the Ring is the best movie out of them all. The one to rule them all, the one to beat them all. With only the sad nod towards not having the extended versions, the Lord of the Rings trilogy Bluray is awesome and one of the best.

LOTR, DVD vs BluRay
3 May 2010

Are the Lord of the Rings films worth buying simply for the opportunity to watch them in high definition? The mitigating factor, primarily, is whether you prefer the theatrical cuts or the Extended Editions, or in my particular case, the theatrical version of Fellowship but the Extended versions of Two Towers and Return of the King -- a preference which makes straightforward "set" purchases impossible. The problem, however, is that it's hard to be discouraging of this release since it is obviously intended to be a preamble, an aperitif, for those expanded, extended, encyclopedic version that will no doubt be released, and the last thing that fans want is to scare Warner Home Video off of prioritizing those releases. But the bottom line is, who are we kidding? Is it ... MoreAre the Lord of the Rings films worth buying simply for the opportunity to watch them in high definition? But the bottom line is, who are we kidding? Is it even remotely possible that poor sales of this set will result in WHV pulling the release of the Extended Editions? They are, after all, planning to make two more of these movies, predicated almost exclusively on the critical and commercial success of the Rings trilogy. In which case, peruse the details of my descriptions of the video and audio quality and determine for yourself if this is a must-have set for your burgeoning blu-ray collection. Because if it's true that Lord of the Rings as a whole was the most important provider of information about moviemaking, then you can decide for yourself how much more you need to know, or maybe how many more times you need to know the exact same thing.

Lord of the Rings Trilogy - best movies ever?
30 April 2010

It has been a while since the last Lord of the Rings came in theaters and knocked people down with a fantastic story, amazing pictues and wonderful soundeffects and specialeffects. A while later it came out on dvd and likewise a trilogy with all three excellent movies. Now you can get it on blu-ray!! What earlier was an amazing movie collection, is now even more stunning with optimized sound and pictures. If you felt like you were in some way a part of Frodo Baggins journeyt before, you are now going to feel like you ARE Frodo Baggins. Buy this, if you want a fantastic and beatiful story in super quality. Dont let it slip away!

Okay, so youve probably bought the theatrical cut and extended edition on
28 July 2012

Okay, so youve probably bought the theatrical cut and extended edition on DVD already, but we still think this Blu-ray version is worth shelling out for. The film is presented in its native 2.40:1 aspect ratio with all the pop that 1080p brings to the screen. The fine detail present in the embroidered costumes and windswept vistas is truly a sight to behold. Actors are similarly awash with detail: even the completely CGI Gollum looks more lifelike than usual. The film: Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King didnt win 11 Academy Awards for nothing. From the opening prologue with Smagol to the Grey Havens finale, it will keep orc-loving fantasy fans riveted. There's even a love story in there for non-geeks to swoon over.

The Lord of the Rings finally on blu-ray!!!
27 August 2011

I've just bought this Lord of the Rings blu-ray collection, and I was very excited to get it. Know, that I finally have it I have to say, that it is truly wonderful. The outer box case is very hard, and sturdy, and looks very good on the shelves. Inside it there's three individual cases, all containing the main movie on a Blu-ray, and a bonus DVD with special features. I've already tried all three movies, and the video transfers are wonderful, the best among them is the picture of the Return of the King, the third movie, but all movies look and sound very good on the ultimate format. The special features are very interesting, although not as expanded, and lush, as the special features of the extended versions, but I still find them very interesting. The Version to buy!
1 January 2012

This, despite what a lot of people say, is actually the version of the Lord of the Rings trilogy to buy. The quality of visuals and sound of the Bluray is excellent. There is no need to change the disk to watch the second half. This is the version you saw in the cinema. Speaking as someone who owns both the extended and regular versions - the original versions of the films are much superior. There is a reason so much was cut out - the extra minutes make them worse films. Perhaps to someone who has read the books - they might appreciate the longer versions. But as for an evenings entertainment the original versions are much more enjoyable (and shorter). Also the price is much better as well. Save your money and your time - buy this version!!
