I usually like super hyped up books. They usually don’t live up to the hype. But this one was good choice. Hooked me on page one, from the first sentence even. And there was never a lull. Quick read that kept me going. It was predictable, but in the best possible sense. I mean, like any “purgatory” type story, Nora’s given the chance to live different versions of her life by undoing her regrets. And just from instinct, I felt like I could tell which regrets she would choose to fix and which ones would be good or bad. And I pretty much knew from the beginning how it would end. But any other ending wouldn’t have been satisfying so I was okay with the predictability. Sometimes it just works that way. I’d definitely recommend this one. Have you read it?! #bookworm ... MoreI usually like super hyped up books. They usually don’t live up to the hype. But this one was good choice. Hooked me on page one, from the first sentence even. This book told me exactly what I needed to hear to make me see the limitless number of possibilities available to me in life if I choose to stop hanging on past regrets and just LIVE. I deal with chronic depression, and graduating from college directly into a pandemic a couple of years back really derailed me mentally. The fact that this story was able to not only hook me but also wake me back up from what felt like the longest spiral I’ve ever experienced in my mental health journey has to be worth something somehow. Go into it with an open mind and give it a try! I don’t think you’ll regret it!

Do you wish you could escape the toils and troubles of every day life or gain an appreciation for the little things when going through a rough patch? Then this book is for you. It starts dark, the author sets the mood very well, probes at the whatif questions we all wonder from time to time. The book is relatable, small chapters keep my focus and the book is an easy read! Would absolutely recommend! If you're an avid watched of the "once in a lifetime" or ever wonder about the afterlife, this fictional story is sure to entertain!

The story itself was pretty entertaining. I was not a big fan of the pace, however. The chapters felt incredibly short for the most part, which made it really difficult for me to feel immersed. Nora felt like a very two-dimensional character, which made it kinda hard to connect with her and care about her like you’d want to with most protagonists. Overall, I would say it’s a good casual read! The ending had a good message but it was predictable and I think I just wanted more out of it. I would have loved a flash forward to tie some loose ends but no biggie! It was a cool book concept without getting too existential and I would recommend it as a good, quick novel if you’re in a reading slump and need something to get you interested in doing it more!

Again, Matt Haig has crafted another tale of philosophical brilliance. While The Midnight Library wasn't what I expected, it was still interwoven with sci-fi, fantasy elements and a fascinating premise. There were quite a few life lessons throughout the book about letting go of regrets and truly seeing and appreciating the life you are given. The character growth and world building were well done and the ending was satisfactory.Overall, I understand the message behind the library and the multiverse scenarios, but I didn't totally connect with the story. It is possible that I had different expectations prior to reading The Midnight Library. Even so, the author did create a compelling work of fiction that no doubt many will enjoy. Entertaining book reading at its best!
6 June 2022

This book was very intriguing! It follows Nora Seed and how her life would turn out differently by making different choices. Some philosophy and physics. It was very entertaining and makes you think how even the smallest decisions you make every day can change so many details of your life. Loved it!!

Great concept, terrible execution

I was intrigued by the interesting premise, and the great reviews. Wondering if other people read a different book to me. Every 'story from the library' fell short, the 'deep thoughts' felt forced and yes, as others have mentioned, very repetitive. Repetitive but cut short, a strange combination. The main character felt very inauthentic to me - she's so wildly talented in what felt like very ridiculous ways, and for me, so slow to learn very basic lessons which made for frustrating reading.Again, interesting premise. For me it made it more sour when the writing failed to deliver results I was looking for, but maybe that will be different for you. 2 stars for being good at inspiring your imagination and discussing with friends what you would have done with Nora and ... MoreI was intrigued by the interesting premise, and the great reviews. Missed the mark
8 October 2022

My Book Club chose this for the monthly read. There was so much potential in this storyline, but it missed the mark. It was very redundant and barely held my attention. I found myself wanting to just close the book and not finish, but I’m no quitter. I trudged on, skipping pages that were the same ole same ole and celebrated when I finally finished! Perhaps my expectations were too high? If you deciding between 2 book choices, skip this one.

Unique & Beautiful
20 February 2022

Why did it take me so long to pick this book up?! I thought that this was such a beautiful story about regrets and how one small choice could change everything in your life. I loved seeing all of the different “lives” that Nora lived, they were always so unexpected from one to the next. While the overall ending wasn’t a surprise, the storyline to get there certainly was. Audiobook Thoughts: I LOVED listening to this book on audiobook. The narrator really brought this story about Nora to life! Trigger Warning: Suicide, Depression, Cancer

4.5 rounded up.The Midnight Library by Matt Haig was my book club book for this month. I was so looking forward to reading it as Matt Haig is so so good at putting words to the human condition. His ability to reflect on his own experiences of mental health issues allows him to represent the doggedness of the darkest depression, and suicidal ideation. This book does just that. It lays out Nora's life and suicide attempt and then delves into the realm of parallel lives as Nora tries to find herself and the elusive happiness she has been missing. This was a quick book to read and I loved the premise of the midnight library itself, and Mrs Elm, Nora's guide to help her explore her infinite lives.Nora's struggles felt real, they weren't overinflated end of the world ... More4.5 rounded up.The Midnight Library by Matt Haig was my book club book for this month. There were a coupls of times I felt the book slipped and became a bit mawkish and obvious in the message Nora was supposed to be learning in these lives, but overall it really hit the mark for me.A poignant and empathetic novel that explores the beauty and pain in everyday life. ⭐⭐⭐⭐🌠 (4.5/5)
