The edition quality is good bang-for-buck, like all the other HC Tolkien hardbacks it's got a dust jacket, sewn binding, etc. I assume the paper is sourced differently each printing - but I can confirm that my paper in decade-old books from the same series/line have not changed colour. It does not have illustrations like the rest of the HC hardbacks, however.The contents go so deep into areas that I (a big Silmarillion fan) found myself skipping some sections. But even if you only enjoy select chapters, that's okay. I think it's best to consider this as another volume of the history of Middle Earth series, or as info you can refer to as needed while reading Tolkien's other works.

I'd recommend this book to every Tolkien fan, it's got tons of very detailed info on pretty much everything you can think of the middle-earth.
