A few tweaks would make it the perfect raincoat!

I purchased this jacket for our trip to Chicago, where rain was expected. The jacket was roomy and comfortable (not too tight across the shoulders, sleeves aren't too tight, jacket hangs at just the right length). I wish it had underarm zippers for better airflow - the jacket held heat in, making my skin feel sticky against the inside of the jacket. I love that the pockets are cut so the rain doesn't drain in, and the front zipper has velcro patches to keep the zipper dry. It would be nice if the hood packed up inside the neck of the jacket but its not too bad hanging down as is. Overall, I'm glad I have the jacket and would recommend it to others.

Crunchy Material/Runs Small But a Nice Purchase

I treated myself to this jacket since I was looking for something for wet weather. It is thin so I can also layer if I wanted to. I like to wear it w a light sweater during brisk weather in NY. I have not worn it in heavy rain so I can not judge if it is waterproof. I like the attached hood because I do not like carrying umbrellas in misty/light rain. I am also a NYC commuter so it fits nicely in my tote bag w/o the bulk if it gets too warm. I got it in navy because I wanted something different rather the typical black. I took one star away for the "crunchiness" of the material and it ran small. I bought it in a medium for wiggle room in case I layered but it fits like a small --I'm usually a small too. It's a nice purchase for travel.

I've used a North Face waterproof rain jacket for over twenty years. This is my third one and the design has changed, or the ones that I have had previously have been discontinued. I'm not a fan of this one. There is a mesh liner which makes the jacket heavier and warmer. I live in Florida so this isn't a desired feature for me. Heavier is also not good if carrying it when backpacking. The weight also might be because the jacket material itself feels heavier. Also this jacket doesn't have the side zip air vents under the arms. Again, a great feature for living in Florida. But, mind you, I've used my previous jackets while on the AT in the summer and this was a nice feature to have up there too. Lastly, the pockets in this new jacket are in a terrible location. You can't just stick your hands inside, you actually have to make a good effort to get your hand in. They are higher than normal jacket pockets and and they way the flap is makes it tricky. I feel like it defeats the purpose of pockets. A side note, the previous jackets I had all had a defect in the material at the neck line - but one that wouldn't show for at least three years, so still a great jacket and with the amazing warranty that The North Face offers, they always replaced my jackets. For that reason alone I will always stick with North Face. The old jackets I would have given five stars and unfortunately I can't do that with this one.

Even with T-Rex pockets, still a good jacket.

I had one of these in the past and ended up throwing it out because I puked into it while driving - long story but I loved the jacket because it's light weight and waterproof. You can layer it over other items to be warm or just wear it alone for warmer days. I liked the color of this one a lot. I originally ordered a medium but sent it back for a large. Part of my reason for sending it back was that the pockets were very high so I was thinking the bigger size would drop them a little bit to wear your arms would naturally fall in a jacket pocket. That was not the case. The pockets are still a little higher than waist level but I have adapted. To clarify, I am 5'10 and my arms are proportioned to the length of my body, I don't have t-Rex arms. Expected More from The North Face!

The jacket is functional but has several flaws. First, It runs small. I have ordered one size up. Second, the placement of pockets is horrible; they are too high and inverted, because the zippers are hidden inside the folder and open against the wrist movement. Third, the hood is enormous and impossible to adjust. I only kept it because it was on sale and the overall look is stylish.

I enjoy my vacations, even in the rain.
5 February 2023

I travel with just a carry-on luggage so space is a priority. My rain jacket takes almost no space yet gives me the piece of mind that if I get caught in a downpour, I can quickly put it on over whatever I'm wearing. I don't even need to pack a hat because of the hood! When I'm touring around, I can keep it in my purse, too. Best of all, the cut of it is great. Since we take lots of pictures, I'm thrilled that it makes me look thinner than other outerwear. I'd say this is all enough to make me want to sing in the rain.

Love the color
23 November 2022

I really like this jacket. The off-white/tan color combo is great, and I've already gotten several compliments on that. I felt the need to buy a large (even though I can usually wear a small, and when I size up, and medium is plenty big). But based on reviews, I bought a large so I can comfortably lay er with a fleece or hoodie, so it would be long enough in the sleeves and back, and I'm so glad I did. I'm 5'7" 135 lbs, so with the large, it's pretty baggy. The jacket hangs straight and isn't really tapered at all, which I would prefer for a better fit. These are just my preferences, tho. It's a great jacket and looks nice. Haven't tried it in wet weather yet.

Love the color! Love the fit! Love this jacket!!

Why wasn't this jacket already in my closet?? Just one day after my jacket was delivered, it was cold and raining outside but; I still had to pick up some bedroom furniture. An umbrella was out of the question. I grabbed my yellow banana colored NF Jacket and zipped it up and it was great!! The rain just rolled off !! This jacket keeps me warm and dry and it's very comfortable. It's true to size so I did get an XL so that I would have a little extra room for a light sweater underneath. This is by far the best rain jacket that I've ever owned!!

Please. More shoulder room.
16 March 2022

This jacket looks great and I'm sure it will perform well and keep me dry. I have another North Face rain jacket in an XXL that is a bit smaller in the midsection and this jacket in a 2X gave me the extra room I wanted so I could wear a thicker layer underneath and not just a t-shirt, however please, please can companies realize that some women have broad shoulders. The room through the shoulder area feels the same as my XXL and I was really hoping the 2X would be a little roomier. I'm going the keep the jacket because I can't size up or the midsection will be too large, and I can't buy mens for the extra shoulder space because they have no hips. Overall it fits pretty well, and it will be great for every day wear, but I hate the feeling that if I move just a bit ... MoreThis jacket looks great and I'm sure it will perform well and keep me dry. I would still recommend this jacket, but beware if you have linebacker shoulders like me, it might be a little snug.

This jacket is everything!
18 January 2023

I love this jacket so much. I've had my Hyvent jacket since 2015 and just a couple months ago I noticed the white lining was peeling, leaving white flecks everywhere. I decided it was time for a new jacket. I love the color because of the black and gray contrast and it goes with everything. It's also very light and comfortable to wear with a couple layers underneath. I look forward to wearing this jacket again and again. Thank you, North Face!
