BEST Duffel I've EVER purchased

I use this duffel on a daily basis now. It has become my go-to bag for daily life.My favorite thing about this bag is the sturdiness that it has and being waterproof. Yes, the Medium size is a bit big for daily wear but it's extremely convenient to have it and just throw it over the shoulders like a backpack. I originally bought this bag for daily/gym/travel because the Medium fits as a normal carry on bag. I would definitely recommend the Medium to anyone interested in using it for travel and the Small for daily life/gym use and if you're a light packer for traveling (unlike me). Definitely go into a store and check them out for size. For the price and size, it's most definitely worth it. Next up on my purchase is the Small!

I've owned several duffels before - Nike, Dimebags, Polo - but nothing compares to this one. I'm astounded by the quality. The material is beyond durable so I expect it to last for years to come, and I mean years. The space is amazing, perfect for everyday use and normal trips, the compartments and zippers are all well designed and you can tell a lot of thought was put into making these bags. On top of that, the design / color scheme is amazing as well. I love this bag so much, I went and bought two of the duffel canisters, and I can see myself getting a L size one of these in the future as well to have for longer trips. The only con I have with this bag - I wish they made a single, diagonal over-the-shoulder strap which is standard for most duffels, but the straps ... MoreI've owned several duffels before - Nike, Dimebags, Polo - but nothing compares to this one. Burly, Stiff, Heavy Duty Duffel
23 April 2022

Overall, I liked the stiffness of the bag, and prefer it to the lighter weight bags. This is a matter of preference. This bag does not compress as much and is heavier, but those are the trade offs for a heavier duty bag that is easier to carry. It is great for its intended use as a camping, adventure bag, but the 70L is a bit small. It also functions well as a weekend bag. That said, I probably would not try to use this as a gym bag, it may be a pain to stuff into a locker. If it had a center strap grommet I would give it 5 stars. Otherwise, it is great.THE GOOD:STRONG: This bag is stiff, heavy duty material, that appears to emphasize the "base camp" functionality. Otherwise, it is great.THE GOOD:STRONG: This bag is stiff, heavy duty material, that appears to emphasize the "base camp" functionality. I have a larger Black hole duffel, and the North Face appears to be heavier duty on the bottom, and sides and has stiffer material.EASY TO CARRY: The heavier material makes it easier to carry. The problem with the lighter bags is that they don't have much support, so unless full, they sag more. The heavier material with this bag makes it more comfortable using the backpack straps.GOOD POCKETS: Functional pockets with 2-3 internal webbed pockets and one side compartment which is nice to separate gear.COMFORTABLE STRAPS: Comfortable backpack straps that adjust well and are sturdy.CARRY ON FUNCTIONALITY: There is a wide range of sizes. I found the 70L a little smaller than I expected, but quite easy to upgrade to the 95L if you want a slightly bigger bag. The 70L will still likely act as a carry on where you are likely to get more pushback from airlines on the 95L.THE BADHEAVY: Overall, this is nearly 1.5 lbs heavier than the similar sized Black Hole bag and does packs down to about twice the size. That said, it is still compresses to about the size of a stack of 7-8 dinner plates, which is not bad.NO CENTER SHOULDER STRAP: There is no great single shoulder strap. I'm not sure why it is so hard to add an extra grommet for a CENTER shoulder strap like an ordinary duffel, but none of the outdoor companies seem to think this is neccessary. The backpack straps are not great for carrying on a single shoulder. You either carry as a backpack, or with the side straps.BACKPACK STRAPS CUMBERSOME Backpack straps are not the easiest to remove - they don't clip off. You have to unwind the webbing through the plastic, and it takes some finesse to do so. If you check it, you need to at least take one side of the straps off to zip it properly so you need to get good at this. It can get a bit annoying to remove the straps and then reinstall them (like 4-5 minutes easily to put them on, and similarly to take them off)..

Everything I wanted in duffel. My new work companion
30 April 2022

Exceptionally happy. That is the only way to describe how I feel about my Base Camp Duffel purchase. I am the guy that goes to the store 5 times to look at things. Reads tons of reviews. Researches and agonizes over every purchase. And that is exactly what I did in picking my duffel. I am a busy personal trainer who spends his days traveling from client to client. People's houses, parks, tracks, even the gym occasionally. I needed a bag that I could wear like a backpack but was big enough to hold a ton of equipment, would hold up to being tossed around in different environments, was easy to get into and find what I need and looked cool (I went with the camo print). I can even slip a yoga mat into the compression straps and I clip a water bottle to the daisy chain and my morning latte onto the shoulder strap. My hands are free to grap a set of dumbbells and off I go. I am already imagining how well this bag would do on other travel and have started my agonizing about what size I want to get next for my personal travel. Get one. You won't regret it.

Gym bag review

After my old gym bag duffle fell apart, I wanted to invest in a solid new one to last. I researched a few different options and read many reviews. Looks - this bad is 5/5 great look. Functionality - 5/5 perfect size for all my belts, straps, chalk, bottles, chains, whips etc without being too unwieldy. Price - 4/5 I say 4 because the closest competition I was considering was about $20 less, but hopefully this will outlast. Maintenance - 5/5 so far, the easy to clean material is nice for someone who uses chalk and spills drinks often.Misc: The top zippers can be tougher to pull unless pulled from a certain angle. Lastly, I read one review that gave me pause because they mentioned it was hard to use the included handles over the shoulder. I do in fact agree with that, I am not a fan of the backpack handles at all, so I removed them and fastened the shoulder strap from my old duffle instead. No complaints now, but maybe NF can add an optional shoulder strap.

Perfect size, not great strap design.

This bag fits under airline seats if you don't fill it all the way. So if you're going somewhere where you need another decent sized backpack but don't want it to count as your carry on item - this is great. I've given this bag 4/5 but really it should be 3.5/5 for two reasons:1. They call this a duffel but there's no shoulder strap. They expect you to grab the backpack straps together as a handle and call that a duffel. IMO that's not a duffel. My solution to this was to buy a shoulder strap from Amazon and attach it to the accessory/carabiner spots on the sides. Works great.2. The backpack straps don't stow away, and the straps themselves aren't quick-release. This doesn't make sense because the larger version of this bag has both of those features.I still ... MoreThis bag fits under airline seats if you don't fill it all the way. This is for traveling to and during outdoor pursuits. You might as well look as good as you can while also being capable of achieving your big goals. Your crew will love the straps, and the durability, as you stuff all your gear inside and walk to a remote aid station. If you have too much gear, get a bigger size. You could also go minimalist and size down. This size is perfect for crewing a racer in a hundred mile race. There is plenty of room for a rain kit, poles, extra shoes/socks, not smelly shirt, warming kit, and SNACKS. Lots of room for snacks in there. The finish coating keeps precious gear dry and allows for a wipe down after you get back to base camp. The. It's time to reload and repeat OR do better the second time.

Rock solid. Burly, immortal zippers. Comfortable shoulder straps in backpack mode -- I've carried these for hours comfortably (use the compression straps to reduce volume if you don't fill it). Hand holds are positioned correctly on the sides to balance your duffel-style carry perfectly and aren't poking you in the back like the original style of decades past. And this is absolutely bulletproof. For many, the base Camp Duffel will last decades. There's a reason you see this bag tied to yaks headed to Everest Base Camp far more often than the competitors. I read the handful of one-star reviews and just shake my head -- I don't know what those people are talking about. There's no competitor that beats it, at any price.

THIS is the duffel I've been looking for! I was gifted the same duffel in XL and it was cavernous. Seriously, my Australian Shepherd climbed inside with room to spare. I wanted something a bit more manageable for weekend trips to the mountains or the city. This is it. It's super sturdy. The stiffness of the materials and zipper is off-putting to some, but for me it screams quality and strength. I love the water resistance, the thoughtful design that keeps the zipper covered, and handles in just the right places. I'm not using the backpack straps, but I'm sure they will come in handy eventually. I can put everything in here. Hiking boots, clothes, toiletries, travel towel/blanket, and a couple of dog toys.
