Awesome Duffel

This bag is truly awesome! I've wanted one of these bags for years but always hesitated due to the price. Now that I have it and see the incredible quality, I'm disappointed that I didn't get one sooner. Over the past year I've used it extensively for week long ski trips, multi-week road trips, and airline travel, and this bag has been great for all of it. I love the shoulder straps; they make it really easy to carry a fully loaded bag while keeping your hands free. The material it really heavy and seems like it'll last a lifetime of use and abuse. I'm able to throw it in an open truck bed without having to worry about all of my gear getting soaked in a light rain or snow.My only wish is that there were compression straps that went over the top of the opening ... MoreThis bag is truly awesome! When I attempt to load this bag with as much clothing and gear as I possibly can, it can be a challenge to close the top. I'm always a little concerned that the zipper will fail under the strain, but there have been no problems with it yet.

Burly, Stiff, Heavy Duty Duffel

Overall, I liked the stiffness of the bag, and prefer it to the lighter weight bags. This is a matter of preference. This bag does not compress as much and is heavier, but those are the trade offs for a heavier duty bag that is easier to carry. It is great for its intended use as a camping, adventure bag, but the 70L is a bit small. It also functions well as a weekend bag. That said, I probably would not try to use this as a gym bag, it may be a pain to stuff into a locker. If it had a center strap grommet I would give it 5 stars. Otherwise, it is great.THE GOOD:STRONG: This bag is stiff, heavy duty material, that appears to emphasize the "base camp" functionality. I have a larger Black hole duffel, and the North Face appears to be heavier duty on the bottom, and sides and has stiffer material.EASY TO CARRY: The heavier material makes it easier to carry. The problem with the lighter bags is that they don't have much support, so unless full, they sag more. The heavier material with this bag makes it more comfortable using the backpack straps.GOOD POCKETS: Functional pockets with 2-3 internal webbed pockets and one side compartment which is nice to separate gear.COMFORTABLE STRAPS: Comfortable backpack straps that adjust well and are sturdy.CARRY ON FUNCTIONALITY: There is a wide range of sizes. I found the 70L a little smaller than I expected, but quite easy to upgrade to the 95L if you want a slightly bigger bag. The 70L will still likely act as a carry on where you are likely to get more pushback from airlines on the 95L.THE BADHEAVY: Overall, this is nearly 1.5 lbs heavier than the similar sized Black Hole bag and does packs down to about twice the size. That said, it is still compresses to about the size of a stack of 7-8 dinner plates, which is not bad.NO CENTER SHOULDER STRAP: There is no great single shoulder strap. I'm not sure why it is so hard to add an extra grommet for a CENTER shoulder strap like an ordinary duffel, but none of the outdoor companies seem to think this is neccessary. The backpack straps are not great for carrying on a single shoulder. You either carry as a backpack, or with the side straps.BACKPACK STRAPS CUMBERSOME Backpack straps are not the easiest to remove - they don't clip off. You have to unwind the webbing through the plastic, and it takes some finesse to do so. If you check it, you need to at least take one side of the straps off to zip it properly so you need to get good at this. It can get a bit annoying to remove the straps and then reinstall them (like 4-5 minutes easily to put them on, and similarly to take them off)..

The massive main compartment helped me accomplish this. I've used it on several other occasions and it has really fit the bill. I will say, this bag lacks some organization options for small pieces of gear that you may want quick access to or may want to keep separate from other things. But the organization it does have is perfectly suitable for most occasions. The color and design draws a lot of compliments and the material has been tough enough for everything I've thrown at it so far. Everything I wanted in duffel. My new work companion
30 April 2022

Exceptionally happy. That is the only way to describe how I feel about my Base Camp Duffel purchase. I am the guy that goes to the store 5 times to look at things. Reads tons of reviews. Researches and agonizes over every purchase. And that is exactly what I did in picking my duffel. I am a busy personal trainer who spends his days traveling from client to client. People's houses, parks, tracks, even the gym occasionally. I needed a bag that I could wear like a backpack but was big enough to hold a ton of equipment, would hold up to being tossed around in different environments, was easy to get into and find what I need and looked cool (I went with the camo print). I can even slip a yoga mat into the compression straps and I clip a water bottle to the daisy chain and my morning latte onto the shoulder strap. My hands are free to grap a set of dumbbells and off I go. I am already imagining how well this bag would do on other travel and have started my agonizing about what size I want to get next for my personal travel. Get one. You won't regret it.

This is such a versatile bag. It's my go to bag for urban and car camping type outdoor adventures. The capacity is perfect for a weeklong trip with room to spare. The number of pockets is just right. Two pockets inside and one on the outside. With how large the duffel is, I really appreciate the big exterior pocket. I pair this duffel bag with packing cubes to keep things organized in the main compartment. Only improvements I would ask for is a quicker way to disconnect, reconnect, and stow the backpack straps and a little more padding on the backpack straps. Other than that I love this duffle!

Gym bag review
20 May 2022

After my old gym bag duffle fell apart, I wanted to invest in a solid new one to last. I researched a few different options and read many reviews. Looks - this bad is 5/5 great look. Functionality - 5/5 perfect size for all my belts, straps, chalk, bottles, chains, whips etc without being too unwieldy. Price - 4/5 I say 4 because the closest competition I was considering was about $20 less, but hopefully this will outlast. Maintenance - 5/5 so far, the easy to clean material is nice for someone who uses chalk and spills drinks often.Misc: The top zippers can be tougher to pull unless pulled from a certain angle. Lastly, I read one review that gave me pause because they mentioned it was hard to use the included handles over the shoulder. I do in fact agree with ... MoreAfter my old gym bag duffle fell apart, I wanted to invest in a solid new one to last. I researched a few different options and read many reviews. I do in fact agree with that, I am not a fan of the backpack handles at all, so I removed them and fastened the shoulder strap from my old duffle instead. No complaints now, but maybe NF can add an optional shoulder strap.

I highly recommend this fantastic product
25 July 2023

We bought two of theses and love them! I gave my son a choice of four different bags, and when he read about it, there seem to be no question about which one. I gave my son a choice of four different bags, and when he read about it, there seem to be no question about which ones he wanted. When we got them we were so surprised that they came in such a small box and when we opened them, there was 2 Mesh Circle bags with luggage inside each. We opened the mesh bag and stretched out the luggage, it was very sturdy, waterproof, and quite nice looking, including straps for a backpack. when we went to go put the bags back in the mesh bags, it was quite simple and easy to zip! everything about this bag screams quality, and somebody thought it through quite well.

Seems like very rugged bag
19 December 2022

Seems very durable as made of same material as dry bags. It would not be water proof obviously due to zipper. I really like the back pack straps as sometimes a shoulder strap hard to carry. Has a nice case to stow it away in when not in used. This is good if you want to bring it with you on vacation in your luggage to have a bag to bring thing home in. Not many compartments inside. Only 2 mess pockets. This is kind of expected for what the bag is ment for and how is constructed. Looks like will hold up well. Have not had a chance to use and abuse yet.

The perfect carry on!
4 October 2023

I love this bag!I have been looking for a weekend bag which is large enough for all my stuff as a chronic over-packer but small enough to use as hand luggage on short haul flights. Having seen the larger sizes of the base camp duffel around, I thought I would give the XS a try and it does not disappoint! The bag itself is very durable and easy to organise - I love the fact that it opens up fully like a duffel but you can wear it as a backpack. The straps are also surprisingly comfortable, even after a full travel day.I've recommended this bag to my friends and family and have already had several friends purchase one of their own - it is a real must have. I also love the lavender colour, it is very easily identifiable!

Tough & Functional Bags-Customer for Life!

I'm a teacher at a homeschool co-op, and I purchased this fab bag to carry all my teaching materials to and from school and into and out of the classrooms to which I travel. It's super duper tough and has plenty of room for all my stuff (textbooks, notebooks, binders, pens, lunchbox, etc.). The extra zippered pocket at the one end along with the small mesh pocket inside the larger compartment are awesome features for a bit more organization! While gone one evening (after having gotten home from school and forgetting my empty salad container was still in there), my goldendoodle helped himself into the bag (he's good with zippers 😜) and spilled leftover bits of salad and dressing all over the place while attempting to eat whatever remains he was able to scrounge up. ... MoreI'm a teacher at a homeschool co-op, and I purchased this fab bag to carry all my teaching materials to and from school and into and out of the classrooms to which I travel. Good news is the bag was 100% still in tact (super tough up against a goldendoodle's giant teeth!) and it was a cinch to clean!! I just took it outside, sprayed it down inside and out with our garden hose and some cleaner, let it dry outside for a bit, and it was as good as new.I'll also add that I have a 2nd larger-sized North Face duffel that I purchased years ago, and when our tent got rained-out & water-logged following a surprise shower while camping down in FL recently, the ONLY stuff that remained 100% dry was what was in that North Face bag!!! (That's actually what prompted me to purchase the smaller version for my school stuff.) These bags are the real deal!
