I've been Base Camp Duffel devotee for decades, but was looking for something with similar levels of durability and size that was easier to transport through airports and train stations. After 2 international trips, the construction seems excellent without any damage from baggage handlers. The design is intelligent and the compartments well thought out for carrying a wide array of gear and clothing. The wheels are large enough to go over bumps and slightly rough terrain with relative ease.

I have been a longtime user of the base camp bags. This is my 4th one, second rolling thunder, with my other three going strong. As i get older, i have more desire to use wheeled luggage just because lugging around 50 pound duffles in the airport gets hard and luggage carts are not always available. I am someone who is *actually* using these bags for gear (hence what it is made for).I used this bag to fly my some of my climbing and camping gear out to Wyoming. I opened the bag upon arrival only to find out the internal frame snapped in half! Literally the first time i used it. Broken. This bag is 95L, so you would expect TNF to make a frame to handle the weight associated with 95L... right? wrong. I went to go start a warranty replacement only to see that I have ... MoreI have been a longtime user of the base camp bags. Why would i buy this bag again? 350.00+ dollars for a single use. It's clear the quality of gear has gone down hill as i guess its starting to be "trendy" vs gear for people who actually need reliable gear.I am BEYOND disappointed and really just want a refund and for y'all to take this bag back. I shouldn't have to pay for a giant bag to be shipped back. Where would i even get the packaging for it? Absolute nightmare. Especially when you are counting on the gear to preform.

I purchased the 28 inch rolling bag and took it on a 10 day trip to Spain. I also have multiple black hole duffels from Patagonia but the material of this Northface bag feels like it will hold up better to airline abuse. The bag came through with a couple of scuffs but nothing major and the black color hides them well. There are a few helpful pockets including a large outside zipper that was easily accessible and great for shoving raincoats into in case the weather turned while on the move. I look forward to many more long trips with this bag.

This is as pretty sweet bag, very durable, seems to be made out of high quality materials. Zippers are heavy duty. Looks more expensive than it is. My one major warning is that I bought this bag thinking that I could use it as a carry-on since the pictures on the NF website make the bag look small enough to manage in an overhead compartment in your standard plane. Well I was totally wrong, theres no chance youre getting this bag on a plan as a carry on, it is definitely the size of a typical "checked bag". With that in mind however, its a great bag. I also bought the Base Camp 36 however that bag is massive and this Base Camp 28 easily manages holding what you would need for a typical 1-2 week vacation.
I have traveled with this bag 4 times since purchase. Holds a weeks worth of clothes easily. Handle slides in/out easily. Material feels very durable and so far no moisture has penetrated the bag. Choose the yellow color to stand out at baggage claim. The yellow has gotten really dirty but I assumed that would be the case so I'm not complaining. My one nit pick with the bag would be the cinch straps. I wish there was a system to secure them. After cinching the bag, the straps just flap around waiting to get caught and torn off on a luggage carousal. Having a strap keeper would solve that.
We owned a previous version of this rolling duffel, the version with a hard plastic "bathtub" bottom from around the mid to late-2010s (maybe 2017 or 2018).I noted that the plastic bottom has been abandoned, which counterintuitively improves the durability of this luggage. While the hardshell bottom was more protectively, the seams between them plastic and the textile portions were a weak point. We experienced issues in the corners where the switching had failed. With no time to send back for repairs, I repaired the seams with "Shoe Goo" adhesive and it has held up well.Another feature lost is the ability to collapse the duffel for storage. With no time to send back for repairs, I repaired the seams with "Shoe Goo" adhesive and it has held up well.Another feature lost is the ability to collapse the duffel for storage. The older bag had metal struts on the wheel end of the duffel that you could pop out at one end allowing that end to be folded down, significantly reducing the depth of the duffel for storage. Those two changes significantly improve the durability of the luggage. The metal stays of the old design would sometimes pop free. Additionally folding down the bag end put extra stress on the seams and contributed to the failure of the stitches.Another minor loss is one of the exterior pockets at the the handle end of the duffel, which was convenient for storing wet items or items that you wanted to access easily.A big improvement is the much wider opening to the main compartment. The old bag had a huge opening, but there was still a little bit of a lip on the ends. The new design completely opens the interior. Also, the older design only provided two compression straps, whereas the newer design uses a compression panel (which also affords you an additional two small mesh pockets. It does a much better job of confining the contents of the bag. I also liked that the zippered mesh pocket of the lid can be rolled up and tucked away with a tent-style loop-and-toggle.Overall, I think that's this newest version of the bag incorporates several thoughtful tweaks while retaining the key features of a huge interior, easy access, and rugged design. I do miss the fold down feature, but I like trading off the more compact storage for a more durable build.
It looks bigger somehow in person than in the photo. Very sturdy, good quality, and spacious inside. I guess it's to be expected with the color, but the yellow did get dirty already on the very first use as airplane luggage. The black marks wiped off somewhat, but it is stained. Also I would give it 5 stars if it had spinner wheels, but these wheels only go forward and back, so the luggage often tips over when you try to turn it.
I have been using North Face products for many years, and I truly appreciate their usability. However, I must point out a decline in usability, quality and an increase in price. I bought a Thunder 30 trolley almost 10 years ago. Amazing. Over the years, in the updated models, they have removed no less than four zippered pockets, which were extremely useful for storing items, and in the latest model, they also removed the external cover for the zipper, leaving it exposed to potential damage. Nowadays, it seems all manufacturers, both for travel trolleys and backpacks, are offering nothing more than oversized duffel bags, Of course, this it costs less to produce. Well done !
This is a high quality bag that can take a beating from even the strongest airline baggage handler. I like the sleek look in black and the strong, durable material. It has more than enough room to accommodate a long term trip. I Also purchased the same bag in 22" which has more than enough room as a carry-on. I would highly recommend this bag to anyone with a more adventurous itinerary or someone who wants a strong, stylish looking duffel for everyday travel.
Wanted a rolling duffel that had all the size and space without being too busty. It is almost perfect but with a few flaws. The wear and tear when being slid across an airplane bin to be stack gives the bag a "banged" up look often. It's easily wipeable but still not visually pleasing. The very top zipper isn't able to be locked but also isn't deep enough to really put anything in there outside of things you need for easy access. With the bottom of the bag not being of hard plastic, if items stick inside of it, makes the bag feel lumpy.
