The North Face's iconic Base Camp Duffel is the inspiration for the new Voyager. It’s just as handy but weighs less and has even more pockets to store your stuff – with a focus on travel rather than back-and-beyond expeditions. You can carry it as a backpack or a duffel. It’s got a laptop sleeve, an adjustable and removable divider in the main section which definitely makes separating clean from dirty easier, and – to avoid frustrated rummaging – there’s an external water bottle holder. It’s made from recycled fabric, too.

I bought this for school n weekend travel as well as grocery shopping n whatnots. Have one with similar design from another brand for a decade but it's not of water resistant material so I opted for this for easy maintenance . The main compartment is very spacious so I can pack a lot of things. It is soft so can be tucked under the seat on the plane. The only problem i have is one of the shoulder straps must be unhooked in order to fully open the main compartment. While it provides extra security, I am not sure how long the clasp will last as it's made of plastic. For that reason alone, I bought 2 packs as it's hard to find such a well thoughtful travel duffel back pack. I actually picked the 32L as it doesn't have the 2 extra handles on the bigger ones as those ... MoreI bought this for school n weekend travel as well as grocery shopping n whatnots. Awesome bag, good functionality with a lot of pockets, the divider is handy, and the material and zippers are all great. This bag would last a long time. I looked into a lot of duffels and what sold me on this one was designated shoe pocket lined with waterproof material + backpack straps. It was smaller than I was hoping, though. This bag would be good for a weekend trip at best when you have to pack boots+a thicker jacket+sweats for cold camp nights. Maybe for a summer trip it could be good for 5-7 days depending how light you pack. I was impressed but looking for something a bit bigger so I will be getting the 62L of the same model instead. Also it *barely* fit my size women’s 10/mens 9 dr martens in the shoe pocket (I couldn’t find my hiking boots and they’re ... Worth the money, can’t wait to get the bigger one!

I had a very old, I would say Gen 1 North Face duffel from the early 2000's but this new generation of bag is FAR superior! I was so impressed when I received this 42L. I choose to keep it over the Cotopaxi version. The material is lovely, smooth and soft. The straps are very padded. I really like that it folds into itself for storage when it's not in use. I also like that there are way more pockets than the Cotopaxi version. It isn't really shown online but there is a large slip pocket (no zipper or snap) where the straps come in and out for storage that is perfect for items you need to easily access. The shoe compartment at the end of the bag is also very roomy. I like that there is a hidden laptop compartment built-in that rests safely on your back while wearing ... TNF Basecamp bags have become an adventure travel cult bag. If you're unaware, this bag has long been considered the bombproof goto adventure travel bag series for years. Taking its cue from its larger, not international travel-sized cousin, the Basecamp Duffel size Small, the Voyager is just one inch bigger, on all sides, than the international travel sizes. This tiny little inch makes a massive difference in overall capacity and feel, yet is just small enough to squeeze into any bag size checking kiosks. What the Voyager 42 loses in capacity to the TNF Base Camp Duffel Size Small, 50L., it makes up for in features. A lightly padded generous laptop sleeve can host your 15inch laptop just fine. The isolated shoe compartment neatly fitted two pairs of road running shoes for me, and also served as a buffer to where I decided to stow my camera equipment. The bag comes with an adjustable compartment seperator, which simply hooks itself into one of the various mounting positions available. This makes packing even easier as you assign sections to clothes, toiletries, and other things. The straps are comfortable, the bag is stylish, the only thing you could ask for is a wider and more interesting color selection. Judging on how the Base Camp series has changed its look, I imagine the Voyager 42L is here to stay, and will inevitably come in that Pineapples on Purple print I've been dreaming of.Overall, I am shocked at how much I am able to fit into the 42L. I thought the loss of 8 liters of space would be a big one, but it is not, and actually is a sort of blessing. The reduced weight makes walking around with my loaded bag way more comfortable.Overall, I have decided to end my love affair with my Base Camp Duffel Small, retiring it as my go-to choice for my TNF Base Camp Voyager 42L, becoming this digital nomads goto bagWell done TNF, well done!
Bought this bag for a 14 day 2500 mile road trip. I have a similar 60L from another company and found that to be sometimes too small. I was able to fit everything I needed in this bag with room to spare. I even went shopping while on the trip and brought too much clothes to begin with. The side pockets were great for my toiletries & flip flops/running shoes. The material is solid and took my tosses through the trees with ease. Even rubbed it against some sandstone rock and held up fine. While packing up it was raining steady and I left the bag in the weather for 45 min and the only wet spot where the zippers meet. I had them more towards the side than in the middle where it might do better. Converting it into a backpack was easy and felt fine on my shoulders. The ... I own several sizes (50L, 70L) of the Patagonia Black Hole duffel bags that have backpack straps, like this one does. I like carrying my bags back-pack style. And, I enjoy the fact that this style bag has a huge flap that gives you full visibility of the contents and allows you to easily maneuver to get what you need.I was looking for a bag to take with me to the climbing gym. My wife and kids go with me and they have gear, too, so I needed something in the 30L range. I purchased this North Face Base Camp Voyager for no reason other than that Patagonia didn't have a size closer to 30L...the smallest they have is 40L, which felt too big. This bag feels superior to the Patagonia Black Hole in several ways. First, even though this is a much smaller bag, this Base Camp Voyager has way more organizational features. Not only does it have 2 extra pockets to catch smaller items - but also a shoe pocket and a water-bottle pocket. The WB pocket fit my bottle perfectly and included a cinch to keep it from tumbling out. The bag also has a loose panel that can be attached within the large compartment in a few different ways - or left out completely. This simple design allows you to segment that larger space for organizational purposes. But more importantly, if you have gear that varies in weight, it helps you to distribute that weight in the pack in a nice way. I have found this to be a problem with my larger Patagonia back-pack duffels - all the weightier items end up "sinking" and creating a bottom-heavy lump that's uncomfortable and unwieldy.Another think I loved that Pagaonia got wrong is that when the duffle straps are connected to one another, they sit between the bag and your back. When unconnected to one another, they are big loops and hang loose and can be inconvenient when going through airport security or just tossing them around while travelling. North Face has tighter handles that don't need to be attached and stay out of the way the whole time. I also loved that the straps unbuckle and then can be conveniently stuffed into a thin pocket designed for them.Overall, extremely pleased with the bag. It has worked great int he gym with my climbing gear - and I've also emptied it out and taken this bag on some weekend "one-bag travel" trips and it worked amazingly well.
I use this bag for business and leisure travel both in airports and trekking around shows.I'd buy this bag again w/o a doubt but you need to be aware of two things.First you need to add connecting strap from each of the chest slings to connect the two slings like a lot of better backpacks have. you have to do this to carry any kind of weight or shifting contents. otherwise the should slings like to try and slide off your shoulder. The materials are not conducive to dissipating heat or allowing air circulation. Not much of an issue if you carry it for 10-15 mins but any longer and it gets warm and then down right hot. North face could change the material on the top of the bag to address this but I am sure there might be a downside or two because of the change. So, net/net is this. Buy it ( I have the 42L) and add the chest strap. It's well made, good materials and thoughtfully laid out zippers and pouches.
- When used as a backpack, the straps are too close together at the top (too narrow) so they pinch your neck BADLY. I compared to all other backpacks and they are constructed closer together than every single other pack that i've seen, even small 15L daypacks. THIS IS A SERIOUS DESIGN FLAW! Also the backpack straps have 1/10 padding so they are extremely uncomfortable. The pack is absolutely terrible when used in this way.- One of the clips broke on day 2 of travel. Super cheap plastic.- The exterior shell is 300D compared to the 1000D of the original NF duffle. So don't get fooled that this new design is better.- The bottom is a rough fabric bc the shell is so weak, and that means it also means less water-resistance. Very clear this bag wasn't tested at all.+ Positives are that it works as a bag... nothing special at all.
I purchased this bag for an upcoming extended "one bag" trip. I appreciated that this bag is a simple rectangle with the exact max carry on dimensions from most airlines. There aren't a bunch of pockets and dividers that add weight and reduce volume. Also, the price was great when compared to similar bags from outdoor companies. The fabric is coated (shiny) and seems sturdy. All the zippers and buckles are lightweight (definitely not heavy duty) but seem like they will be fine if cared for properly.I have used the bag one time for an extended weekend trip and it was sufficiently sized for one pair of shoes in the shoe pocket (my Hokas didn't fit but Chacos did), a few pairs of pants and shorts, a dress, several shirts, and my toiletries. I'm not sure it's needed anyway so I just won't use it.Thanks for the great bag, TNF!
