Took it to Kilimanjaro. Pretty big. Not too many organizational pockets. Rain cover is huge though, big enough to fit over a sleeping bag in addition to the backpack. Weight and structure feel great. Trekking pole location not great, but can be strapped to the sides.

I'm looking for a pack that performs both as a campus/school bag and hiking/climbing bag. This bag is a good starting point; especially for the price. This bag falls more on the hiking side which is seen by it's lack of organized pockets (pens, small trinkets). I end up using the hip pockets for this. However, it does hold a lot of stuff and the shape of the bag makes things fit well. Another flaw is the front stash pocket and gear loops. Because the straps on the side don't attach from the top of the bag, the pocket and gear loops sag a lot even with little weight on them. This isn't a deal breaker but other bags don't have this issue... Hopefully North Face thinks through simple engineering principals in the future. Multiple pockets for small items like gloves and keys, water bottle holders on both sides, straps for those "extras", and a spacious main compartment. There's also a slip-in compartment appropriate for a laptop. It's also quite lightweight. However, the best part is that this backpack slips on and off easily, doesn't snag, whether fully loaded or practically empty.

This is my everyday work bag, love it! This is a replacement bag for my original North Face. Customer service was excellent! They honored my old bag and gave me a gift card so that I can purchase my new North Face bag. I would recommend everyone to get this bag! Great company! I have been a customer since I was a young man! Thanks North Face!
Great looking bag, performs poorly though. The rain cover does not stay in its pouch, it constantly falls out to the point of becoming a burden. The snap is too weak to hold the cover in. Was this even tested? I may cut the rain cover off and just store it in the bag. The bag is top heavy and always falls over when set down, this shouldn't be a problem but the weak rear pouches and bottle holders allow for everything to fall out when the bag does topple over. Really just a poor design.
I spent a long time reviewing different models when I was in need of a new backpack a few months ago, and I am so glad I went with this pack! I wanted a sleek backpack for everyday use that could be repurposed for weekend trips, and that's just what I got. The best features are the chest buckle, stash pocket, and built in rain-cover. I didn't think I would get much use out of the water bladder sleeve, but it's a perfect space to store my rain jacket. I would definitely buy this pack again!
I had some quality issues with my bag. I bought this bag to use as a multi-purpose hiking/travel backpack. First, the quality is honestly just OK. The fabric is good but there were some noticeable parts on the bag where the stitching was fraying. Not a good sign for longevity. In addition, the bottom "button" that holds the rain fly in would not seal well, which means that the rain fly starts to come out and it looks sloppy. The rain fly is attached, so you won't lose it, but it looks bad as this red plastic is coming out the back. This is likely due to the design flaw. The button is not the most secure mechanism and the tension on the bag at the expandable shove it pouch creates a bad situation. The bag is comfortable to wear and looks nice. The button is not the most secure mechanism and the tension on the bag at the expandable shove it pouch creates a bad situation. The bag is comfortable to wear and looks nice. The straps are okay, but the load lifters don't do much. The back is well ventilated for a comfortable carry. The hip belt pockets are fine, but I wish they were a touch larger so they could comfortably fit a cell phone (I tested with an iPhone). The bag isn't ideal for a laptop, but you should know that when you purchase it. Also, the waist belt is not removable. Not a deal breaker for me, but know that when you buy. The overall pockets have zero organization, zero, again this seems "hiking bag" style. Not a huge deal if you prefer to use pouches, but, even for a hiking bag, this bag is pretty minimal. The compression straps are nice, and I think you can use this bag as a larger daypack if you want to compress it using the sleeping bag straps on the bottom as the second set of straps. All in all, okay for the price, but not for me. I truthfully expected more from The Northface and I returned it after I bought it online. I think this designed as a true "hiking bag", not what I was looking for, but I also own hiking bags which I prefer to this one.Good luck fellow shoppers.
This seems like a great backpack and I need it desperately for a upcoming trip. However one of the red straps that hold the rain cover broke the second i took it out of the box and tried it. I attached the rain cover, and without pulling or tugging or even touching the bag, the tension of the rain cover broke it. I hope north face reaches out to me. I don't think I have time to return and wait for a new one. Though I would like a new one! I know its a pretty minuscule issue, however I bought this bag expecting durability that would last me for years. Now this one function doesn't work within 30 seconds of taking it out of the box. Even if nothing else breaks it's still disappointing.
I love the size of this bag. Not too big, not too small. I also really like the larger hip zipped compartments.I bought this to replace an older North Face backpack which still looks and functions as new even after a ton of use. You just can't go wrong with north face backpacks.
I bought this backpack for daily hikes and travels, I found it very comfortable for both uses related to my needs. But for beeing a 36lt backpack (that it's supposed to carry laptops and so but also mountain arrangements), where can fit a lot of stuff inside, the handhold is too small and weak for the weight it can reach with it's capabilities. After 3 months of use (a few hikes and a backpack travel), the seams around the handhold are already wearing out and I have to use shoulder straps to hang it on in order to avoid to break it completely.
