I've read reviews by others. Especially people who previously owned similar style pants and I share their views...The reason I ordered this pair is because I love my two, 6 years old pairs and wanted to add another color. I was expecting to get the same pants style.I wear them at least once a week, naturally they get washed often. The color didn't fade and the material didn't wear out.I liked the old design, the back pockets (without zippers) and the front pockets with flap located below the hip .The new design, on the other hand, feels lighter (which tells me it probably will not last as long and may rip easily). The shape, style and locations of the various pockets had changed (some are missing entirely).I got nothing against this style, but it should have ... MoreI've read reviews by others. Overall I like these pants, but I'm a little disappointed in a few details and was confused by some things when reading the reviews.PRODUCT PHOTOS: Four of the seven photos here on Moosejaw do not match the pants I bought in October 2021. The incorrect photos show thigh pockets which are not in the pants I purchased.STYLE AND FIT: These pants look surprisingly good. They're clean looking and not at all baggy. The zip off seams are understated. My wife hates zip off pants and even she will concede that these look pretty good.I consider these pants to be partway between regular and relaxed fit. I'm just barely able to squat down in these pants without feeling like the fabric is going to rip. I wish that they were a relaxed fit. I like the location of the leg zips, far enough above the knee to not catch or cause discomfort.POCKETS: There are three zip pockets: two on the rear and one inside the right front hand pocket. All three of the zip pockets are smallish, but my iPhone 6, without a case, easily fits in each.ANKLES: After opening the ankle zips I could not remove the bottom of the legs over my Salomon hiking boots, which are not oversized in any way. Disappointing! When zipped closed, the pants fit perfectly around the tops of my hiking boots. Nice and trim.FABRIC: The fabric is lightweight but still substantial. They seem to be just right.

I would buy this again and again...actually did...

I think these pants are the best! I was traveling to 6 countries in 3 weeks and packed for the wrong weather. I grabbed a few pairs of these and started my trip. First stop, Iceland and these were great for hiking, climbing, and quick temperature changes (hot, cold, and wet) within a few hours. Then I traveled to Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Austria, and finally the Netherlands. The weather varied greatly and knowing that these pants had me covered for anything. They breathe well, dry quickly, holds up without tearing! I finally came back to the states and bought a few more. These are the clothes you want to pack into your carry on...just incase. They also have plenty of storage. Well done NorthFace and thanks for saving my trip!

Length and finish are perfect but was strangely WIDE
5 March 2023

I wanted to love this so much, kind of surprised so many others found this to be perfect. The material feels great, waistband is very comfortable but for some reason my Regular size pants were so wide in the legs that they looked like my insulated snowpant thickness. There is no indication on the description that this is intentional so I am to assume this is normal even for the regular. If you have average/ skinny legs, this will fit horribly baggy from the thigh downwards. This is a return for me.

Look Elsewhere

Sizing is very off - I even ordered a size up and these hardly fit my waist. Other than that, the material is durable but does not stretch at all. The dimensions are very weird, these were super tight on my thighs. Seems to me that hiking pants would accommodate excessive movement and designed to be looser. These were basically slim fit. I could not imagine walking anywhere in these let alone long-distance in remote areas.

Nice Convertible Trail Pants
16 December 2021

I have a pair of these in khaki from 2018 that I LOVE. I finally tracked down the proper version online and ordered two pair - tan and dark. These are certainly more tan than khaki which is less ideal. Unfortunately, khaki is no longer an option. These are otherwise fine looking, and tan does go with the product description. They run a little thin in the size rating, so that is something to be aware of. Not quite a "skinny" pant, but more in that direction than a "regular" fit. The older style was more of a regular fit, and I preferred that. They are light and flexible as both pants or shorts. I really like the feel and comfort of the material and design. Not the pants they used to be.
1 March 2022

I have been trying to replace a couple pair of North Face Pants I bought a while back (a few years ago). These were the closest I could find and ordered 2 pair. Much to my dismay they are not even close to the quality that North Face used to be noted for and I returned them. Sizing and fit are off. I was shocked to see they are using a cheap snap for the waist. The fabric is thin and will not hold up to serious hiking, camping, etc. I'm writing in case there are other people who are encountering the same problem. But more importantly, I would like North Face to make pants with the same quality and craftsmanship we counted on for so long. Sorry North Face but I will look to other companies in the future.

Seems rip out within one wear
3 August 2023

I bought a pair online. Got them no problem. Wore them thought they were great so I ordered 2 more. Then went to toss them in the laundry at the end of the day and noticed the seem next to the rear pocket was ripped out. No problem, just a manufacture defect called customer service, was returned and refunded. Short the shipping of course. So a couple day pass the other 2 pair arrive. I wear them the next day and my the end of the day, the same seem on these pants have ripped out also. So i expect the 3rd pair will do the same. Going to return. Don’t waste your time or money. It’s a shame, good material ruined by shoddy stitching. Taking what use to be a high quality clothing company and running it into the ground. Good job North Face.

Size Description and Fit are Not Normal
16 December 2021

Size did not match what I expected. Fit was too big so I returned them and re-ordered the next size down in both waist and length. That size fits, but runs slightly slim fit compared to a regular fit. Thus, the gap between one size up, and one size down is more extreme than say a regular pair of jeans. Sooooo disappointing.
5 November 2021

I'm 6' and 190 lbs. I'm active and work out, but I'm not some crazy muscle head. I bought 34" waist with a 32" inseam. I would need to have no butt and weigh about 140 lbs to fit into these. My butt and thighs bulge in these to the point of discomfort...meanwhile, my waist is too small to even keep them from falling down. Bending over in these is impossible without having a healthy fear that they will rip. Such a shame. The prior versions of this pant were 100x better. I loved the old versions and owned 7 pairs that I literally wore til they fell apart. Now, I will have to find another brand that still makes pants for people who aren't runway-model-skinny. And they are NOT relaxed fit, as the "features" section advertises. They are "slim fit."I'd love to hear a ... MoreI'm 6' and 190 lbs. I'm active and work out, but I'm not some crazy muscle head.
