When my daughter told me this was what she wanted for Christmas, I wasn't sure at first. When I think of Northface jackets, I picture being on the summit of a snowy mountain peak, frigid wind, below-zero coldness, and pretty much anything related to being outdoors and protecting you from the elements. The price was steep for me, as she prefers being indoors. I did not rule it out. Good thing I didn't. Not only does my daughter love her new jacket, she also looks very nice in it. The puffer is light, compact, and versatile, but most importantly, it keeps her very warm. For now, it's about style, but I am happy if she ever decides to be outdoors; her 1996 Retro Nuptse Jacket will provide the warmth and protection needed to explore.

No lie, this jacket is actually perfect for winter because it blocks out all the cold. I'm typically always cold and have to wear multiple layers to feel warm, but when I put this on, I don't even close it because it's that good. It has a hidden waterproof hood that perfect when it rains and you can store away under the collar when you don't need it. I wish this jacket came in a chocolate color and had more color options. I also do wish that it was longer, but the long version looks super 80's so I wish they would make another version that just adds a few inches of length, no buckle or anything needed just a bit longer to cover the butt area. I've had my eye on this coat for a couple of years, and finally splurged because of the down content, and quality I trust in North Face. As I expected with the down content, It's very warm but so soft and not heavy; so comfortable! I was not aware that this puffer jacket is technically not for skiing or snowboarding and is more for casual wear... but I've worn this to the snow around 30 times (I wear this jacket every time I go to the mountains because it keeps me so warm and dry). And let me tell you- this jacket is HANDS DOWN THE BEST. I have NEVER gotten wet from being in the snow with this jacket on. Cold in the snow? Not with this jacket. Sometimes I have to be careful about how many layers I'm wearing or else I get too hot in this puffer! I might also add that I've fallen so many times with this jacket on and there is ZERO rips or scratches or anything. This jacket is 10/10. Seriously.

I got hot in the store trying it on, but when it was 50 degrees out I needed a hoodie on underneath to stay warm while trick or treating with my kid. I'm from the northern states and moved down South, so I'm still used to freezing temperatures. I'd wouldn't want to have just this coat up north.Zipper was fine for the first several times I used it, but now it's sticking horribly. I have to hold it at just the right angle for it to not catch on the next tooth in the zipper as I try to zip or unzip it. Worst coat I've ever had, which is especially disappointing for the most expensive coat I've ever had.

This puffer coat is stylish and warm, yet very light and compact for travel. We bought for our daughter who travels back and forth from home to university, places with very different climates. It’s great that the coat can be stuffed into a small, compact built in sack. We ordered a size Small but returned to get a Medium. She is a slim, 5’-8” stature and found the sleeves a bit short, and the coat was too snug fitting for wearing hoodies underneath. Otherwise a great, stylish retro looking coat that sits at the waist.
I've been wearing this jacket in all temps in the New Hampshire/VT winter we've been having. It's perfectly warm when I have at least 2 layers under it or when I'm walking around campus but lots of cold air/wind gets in through the zipper when I'm riding my electric scooter or just have a t-shirt under it. This happens even though there's a little insulating strip on the inside right under the right zipper. I'm little disappointed. The jacket is beautiful and was supposed to be my new all winter multi-purpose coat for the next 4 years at college but I'm bummed about the wind getting in. The tuck away hood is ingenious and the material is durable and water repellent. Love how puffy and soft/smooth the material is, too. Female, 52, small stature, 115lbs. Do a lot of caving/hiking/camping in polar regions around the world. Time to get a new “Work Horse” down jacket. Bought this jacket size L in bright green/black. Normally a size S, but always get outerwear bigger. L is perfect for lots of layering: Not crazy-large! Perfect for wearing a fleece jacket under, but a little snug “marshmallow-y” looking when I put my rain jacket over it. I loved North Face in the 90’s, and this retro jacket ticks all the boxes for me!
