I bought this because I had originally tried the retinol 1% in squalane and was so impressed with its moisturizing. Then I read a few reviews where people really liked it on hair as well. I have super fine curly hair that gets weighed down quite easily but now I’m using this after almost every shampoo, sometimes just by itself. It does not weigh my hair down at all, softens wonderfully, and tames frizz fairly well. I have yet to use too much. I also tend to get scalp build-up really easy and this doesn’t build up. Bonus is that it also works awesome for applying other scalp serums that might be thicker and harder to apply; thins them out and makes them last longer. And yes, it’s still wonderful on the face too!

i spent a lot of time trying to decide if i should buy The Ordinary's plant derived hemi-squalane OR their plant derived squalene. i ended up going with the hemi squalene because i read that it had a less-thick consistency (since both are oils). and it was right! its a dry-oil that absorbs very quickly into my skin. trust me when i say a little goes a LONG way. at most, i'll use 5 drops on my face. it's a very thin oil, almost watery. so be careful when putting it on your face, because it will run down very quickly! A lightweight option

I bought this to use on my hair in the same way that I'd use a hair oil - to apply it on dry hair after blow drying to get rid of that fried look. When I first applied it I didn't really see much difference. But the next morning my hair did look more supple and a little sleeker. If you need some serious smoothing and taming, then you will likely need a hair oil with silicones in it like I usually use. However, I do think this has a place in my routine. I've been applying it in between washes when my hair needs a little something extra. I will say that the price certainly factored into me keeping this. If it had been significantly more then I would have easily done without this lightweight option.

Be Forewarned!!! PACKAGE WILL LEAK!

Product is great so far. Hydrates and is light without being greasy. Soaks into skin quickly....But also soaks into packaging! I ordered and first bottle came with 1/4 of product missing due to an unscrewed lid that caused it to leak. I called and customer service immediately sent a replacement. When the replacement arrived it was worse than the first, having completely emptied. Same issue, an unscrewed cap. I tried to exchange in store, but product is only sold online so I placed another call to customer service where I was informed that they have a policy to not replace items that have arrived damaged/defective more than once because if it's a packaging issue then they need to resolve it. Fantastic product but leaks!

I really love this product. It’s great to use a small amount (3-4) drops either on its own after washing my face or mixed in with my moisturizer. I also use a drop or two on the ends of my long, fine hair. I love how it has no scent and absorbs super easily into my combination skin. This would be a 5 star product for me, but every time I order, the cap is loose enough that it leaks onto the package and covers the bottle. EVERY time! And it’s not completely off, just loose enough for leakage. They really need to screw the lid on tighter because 1) I’m worried about air effecting the product integrity and 2) the oil will get onto any other product in the box and ruin the package it comes in. I really wish they offered this in stores or else I would get it in person to ... MoreI really love this product. Game Changer

I've abused and damaged my hair from straightening and curling my hair on a daily basis and really needed a break from all the heating. I have naturally frizzy, dry, and wavy thin-er hair that is a handful to maintain without heating. I've been using this product for almost two months and let me just say, it is a GAME CHANGER! I apply the oil on my damp hair and lightly style it (enhance my natural waves) and let my hair air dry. My hair is soft, shiny, wavy, and most importantly, frizz free! My hair has never looked and felt so healthy! And the amount of time I dedicate to make my hair look presentable has significantly decreased! As other users have mentioned, I do wish it came in a bigger bottle, but I can't complain because of how affordable this product is!

I'm in LOVE!

I'm absolutely obsessed with this product. Recently I started using the Anhydrous Salicylic Acid 2% Solution (which has squalane in it) and it's done WONDERS for my combo-DRY skin... My skin just drinks it up and wakes up refreshed and supple. That said, I do find it difficult to use during the day, under makeup. So when I saw this, and realized it's less heavy than, and more dry, than squalane, I had to try it. And, boy, oh, boy, am I loving it. It's exactly what I was hoping it would be. Hydrating, moisturizing, smoothing, and glowing; yet thin, fast-drying and quick-absorbing. It's also great for my daughters' hair, which tends to frizz and tangle easily -- though still a bit much for my really thin/fine hair. I do notice it pills the slightest bit when layering on top of other serums... Though not all serums. I can layer atop my anti-aging serums no problem, and especially over-top my toner or bare face. Basically, Hemi-Squalane is an excellent choice for added moisturization, to combat dryness, or even to prevent dryness and irritation from other acids or products. A well-rounded product I would not want to be without. I imagine it'll serve well in the summer, too, when using squalane in the humidity will likely feel too much.

New Obsession!

I bought this after using and seeing the benefits of using squalane in my PM routine but needing a lighter alternative for daytime use. This perfectly hit the spot. It's light enough to use under other products, and even makeup, without leaving a greasy residue. The non-greasy, dry-oil texture makes it versatile and easy to spread/blend, though making it susceptible to pill easily, too -- especially on top of other products; so minimal routine is necessary. There are some products I can absolutely not figure out a way to layer it with, like TO's Lactic Acid, which I tried using this as a buffer for. Aside from using as a dry-oil for my naturally very fine, thin and straight hair (only the tips), on my cuticles, the back of my dry hands, and even sometimes as a lip moisturizer, I've found it works beautifully blended with makeup products; especially foundation and concealer. While I don't wear foundation too often anymore, it provides an excellent base/primer for such, and I am recently obsessed with combining it with my concealer routine (which I still use often). To apply my concealer: I apply my usual underye cream, followed by a thin, almost watery light face lotion, plus a dab of this, and voila! I had given up hope of ever having a smooth undereye concealer experience again in my mid-30s, but this makes it SO easy. Yes, the oil is rather runny, so just be mindful of it and prepared to have it drip sometimes. It feels so nice to drip directly onto face and spread that way, but for other applications, like cuticles, just do it slowly and gently and try to drop just a drop or two. For hair, apply a small amount to palms and rub hands together before applying to strands. Doing that, I've no problem maintaining my 30ml bottle -- though I could see how a larger bottle would be beneficial for some. Personally, I love that I can purchase a summer, daytime face oil + hair oil + cuticle oil + makeup base for less than $5. Let's be real, there aren't many brands so versatile and affordable... And that's why we ❤️ The Ordinary.

Oh my gosh everyone and their mother needs this asap. I love oils. The ordinary has some of my all time favorite oils for hair and face and this one has just been added to the list. I loved their Squalane oil but this is so much better. It’s lightweight and almost water like in texture. I would call this more of a dry oil because it is not oily and greasy. It absorbs quickly but moisturizes like an oil. I love this for the daytime because it is so ultra light and doesn’t make me look like a grease ball. My new fav way to use this is in the hair. It leaves the hair soooo shiny and frizz free. Never heavy or weighs down the hair. I’ve also added this to my body lotion and it left me glowing.
