The Ordinary Amino Acid Plus B5 30 Ml Amino Acids + B5 is an ultra-thin serum that works with your skin to support its natural hydration barrier. By including a concentrated 17% (by weight) solution of amino acids and amino acid derivatives that mimic your skin’s natural moisturizing factors, this water-based formula keeps the outer layer of your skin protected and well-hydrated without feeling greasy. Plus, it uses 5% (by weight) pro-vitamin B5 to provide surface and below-surface hydration, giving way to softer, smoother skin. How to use: Apply a few drops to the face in the morning and evening. A tingling sensation can be expected after application. If the sensation is too strong, the formula can be mixed with other creams or serums of your preference before each application to reduce the strength. If irritation occurs, rinse off, cease use, and consult a physician. Use only as directed on unbroken skin. Patch testing prior to use is advised. Keep out of reach of children.

A cheap option for sensitive, dehydrated skin!

My skin doesn’t do well with the overly praised “safe for everyone, even sensitive skin” hyaluronic acid or niacinamide. Meaning, I cannot use 90% of products on the market. But I desperately need hydration….. So, as a Hail Mary I tried The Ordinary B5 + Amino Acids; and I was pleasantly surprised by its effectiveness at such an affordable price. Extra points for glass packaging. I use this 1-2x daily as a 1st step on damp skin, layered under my tallow moisturizer. My skins’ hydration has improved, with no redness, itching, stinging or flare ups of my perioral dermatitis/seborrhoeic dermatitis-prone skin. I really enjoy this product and have been using it consistently for 5 months.

I'm about 3/4 of the way through a bottle and will definitely reorder. I have dry, sensitive skin and I layer many different products in my routine. With this product I have discovered I can use quite a few less products in the morning. My routine: AM; wash with The Ordinary Squalane Cleanser Vitamin C serum Tony Molly Wonder Ceramide Mochi Toner The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors Skin Aqua Super Moisture Gel sunscreen I do find that it makes any products you put on top harder to absorb. I make sure that I let things dry before trying to put my sunscreen on. Takes a little bit longer to get the sunscreen to rub in and dry, but once it's on it looks great! Gives a nice plump glowing look to my face. Don't use too much, three or four drops is plenty

Didn't work on my dry and acne prone skin

I really struggle to find anything that tackles the spots but also provides sufficient moisturising to stop it drying out too much and going flaky. This time (based on the recommendation from The Ordinary online regime builder tool) I decided to try a combination of Squalane Facewash, Niacinamide, Amino Acids + B5 and Natural Moisturising factors + HA (and later on added Cold Pressed Borage Oil). Unfortunately the Niacinamide didn't really work for my skin (it dried some areas out too much) but I had high hopes for this product as I had read some glowing reviews. Unfortunately the Niacinamide didn't really work for my skin (it dried some areas out too much) but I had high hopes for this product as I had read some glowing reviews. When I first applied it I was surprised at how watery it was. You need to be very careful not to squeeze the pipette too hard as you only need a few drops and you can easily squirt and waste it (I found this product went down way more quickly as a result). It went on nicely and I could see that my skin looked plumped and had a nice sheen immediately afterwards. I was impressed. Unfortunately I found that this effect was not particularly long lasting. Perhaps my skin is just extra dry and thirsty but even with the Moisturising factors applied afterwards, I really felt I needed something more moisturising as my skin would dry out again in an hour or two and start to flake. I added Borage Oil to the mix hoping this would provide the moisture boost I needed but it still wasn't quite the right combination. I also found it difficult to get the application of the Niacinamide and Amino Acid serums quite right. Even when following the recommendation to only use a small amount (2 drops) and let each soak in for 5-10 mins before applying the next, I still had problems with tackiness. I eventually stopped using the Amino Acids and the tackiness problem went away so it was definitely this product (or this product in combination with the Niacinamide). After removing this product from the mix, I waited a couple of weeks, then tried Hyaluronic Acid instead and immediately saw an improvement in skin dryness so this might be an option if you find this doesn't work for you. In summary, I think this product probably works well on normal or slightly dry skin but it just wasn't 'strong' or hydrating enough for my very dry and sensitive skin.

Fixed my dry skin and improved texture immediately
14 June 2022

About a month ago, perhaps a weather change caused it, but my skin dried out horribly and was flaking and I just couldn't do anything to make it stop. I stumbled upon a Deciem/Ordinary store while in NYC and went in and asked if they had anything for my issue. I'm always happy to try Ordinary products at these prices. They suggested the Amino Acids and from first use, I could feel the hydration boost and the flakiness was completely gone within a few days! I use it morning and night before serums and moisturizer and it keeps my skin silky smooth. My face is as smooth as my kid's! I slacked off my skincare for a week when I had covid and in that time I could feel the texture change and get bumpy and dry again. Please never stop making this
6 April 2022

This is the only product that really helps my dry skin. I first started using this when I had a lot of breakouts of small itchy bumps (somewhere between acne and eczema) on my face and within 2-3 weeks it cleared completely. At one point I stopped using this serum (I ran out) and within a week the bumps were back. I immediately ordered it again and luckily it cleared my skin again in a week; so I know for sure that this product works! Highly recommended if you suffer from similar issues. Overall it also helps to keep regular acne in check and has made my skin tone more even. My only wish is that it would come in bigger quantities because it's great to use on other areas of the body that suffer from dryness too.

Saved my skin from tretinoin and winter dryness
6 March 2022

5/5 stars because it does exactly what it claims to, nothing more, nothing less I use it day and night (4 drops) immediately after washing my face while it's still a little damp. I've been using tretinoin for four months now (0.025%) and it irritates my skin because winter is already drying. I have cystic acne (hence the tretinoin) and scars from previous acne, so my skin looks pretty dull. Adding Amino Acids +B5 to my routine helped reduce dry flakes and irritation over time, and that made my skin look a less dull and more smooth. As a scarring acne sufferer, I appreciate any smoothness I can get. It's been a month and a half, and whenever I do not use Amino Acid + B5, my dry flaky skin increases, and so does irritation from tretinoin. My dad has eczema in his hand, and he puts a few drops of this to his hand cream before applying, and it has noticeably reduced irritation from dryness for him as well. This is a great product if you suffer from dryness. It worked for me and my dad, but may not work for everyone. So try it and see if it helps you too, and if it does not, DECIEM has a great return policy. I will continue to purchase

Still on the fence about this product!
11 May 2021

I have to give 3 stars to this product because, after using all the content of the bottle over the course of various months, I am still confused about whether I actually liked it or not. For a bit of context: I have dry skin, which can really only take as much in terms of the amount of products I layer, and of how thick they are; I initially bought this serum in the hopes of it providing an extra layer of hydration under my moisturiser. The aim was to avoid embarking on the never-ending quest for a light-yet-effective moisturiser that my skin could handle, so I thought this water-based would do the trick of provding extra moisture without any added heaviness. It initially caused breakouts, but they eventually faded after a few days of consistent use. It initially caused breakouts, but they eventually faded after a few days of consistent use. So far so good. BUT what never really changed over the course of time was the sticky finish that it left my skin covered in (which I really didn't look forward to, considering that I bought it very much to avoid this thing, which also tends to happen with thicker moisturisers). Nothing I did ever really managed to solve this problem (I tried applying less of it, layering it with less products, using it by itself, applying it on damp skin to improve absorption). On this note, I very much agree with some reviews I read that claimed it left a sticky film on the skin, which resembles very much what you would be left with if you were to apply fruit juice or sugary water on your skin and let it dry. So be warned! On the other hand, I have to give it an overall positive review (hence the 3 stars) because it has actually helped me in restoring my skin barrier which has been wrecked as of lately because of all the face-mask-wearing, overwashing, irritation and dryness shenanigans that have come along with this pandemic. I have actually come back to it after discontinuing it for a while for this very reason (but only at night time, when I care less if my skin feels sticky). I feel it actually has contributed to making my skin barrier stronger, which was very much needed at this time. Overall: this product can be useful, but I won't repurchase it for the time being.

Ordered this in my second TO order. I tried it after cleaning, on it's own, made my face really sticky. I read before bed and my eyelids were sticking to my face! Super annoying. Started using Glycolic Acid, which needs a lot of hydration afterwards. So decided to try this again since I already bought it. I use a pretty strong facial cleanser (Olay Deep Gel Cleaner with Tea Tree Oil). Glycolic Acid 3x a week. Then I use 5 drops of Marine Hyaluronics, 5 drops of this Amino Acid mixed with 2 drops Pycnogenol, then a good moisturizer (w/o HA). This regimen has completely changed my skin! For some reason, adding the 2 drops of Pycnogenol seems to make the Amino Acid less sticky. I really don't know why. Maybe the Marine Hyaluronics helps that too? I don't know, but it really works for me. My eyelids no longer stick, and my skin feels nourished. It's worth a shot, because if you can get this to work for you, it really is a great product!

I tend to be allergic and sensitive to things, and I don't react to this - it seems to help keep my skin calm. I don't remember now how many bottles of this I have used. It's a go to. (As an aside to deciem - please do not put squalene/squalane in this - I can not use anything with that ingredient in it. I mention it as someone suggested they might prefer it in a squalane base. I would also appreciate it if squalene/squalane could be added to your list of 'ingredients at a glance' to make it easier to avoid.)

still figuring it out but like it!

I’ve been only using this for a few days and I can already tell a major difference in my skin! It’s more hydrated and supple, and definitely more even toned in conjunction with my current AM & PM skincare regimens. I was initially taken aback by the texture but quickly got used to it. It feels like an oil/water hybrid, watery texture but (good) oily application? It’s moisturizing af so I definitely don’t need as much as I would with the hylauronic acid. I’m still figuring out what application method works best for me but so far I’m enjoying mixing 2-4 drops into my moisturizer. I advise to determine how much product to use based on personal preferences and skin type. So far I’d recommend!
