Aging and reclusive Hollywood movie icon Evelyn Hugo is finally ready to tell the truth about her glamorous and scandalous life. But when she chooses unknown magazine reporter Monique Grant for the job, no one is more astounded than Monique herself. Why her? Why now? Monique is not exactly on top of the world. Her husband has left her, and her professional life is going nowhere. Regardless of why Evelyn has selected her to write her biography, Monique is determined to use this opportunity to jumpstart her career. Summoned to Evelynās luxurious apartment, Monique listens in fascination as the actress tells her story. From making her way to Los Angeles in the 1950s to her decision to leave show business in the ā80s, and, of course, the seven husbands along the way, Evelyn unspools a tale of ruthless ambition, unexpected friendship, and a great forbidden love. Monique begins to feel a very real connection to the legendary star, but as Evelynās story nears its conclusion, it becomes clear that her life intersects with Moniqueās own in tragic and irreversible ways.

To say this book was good, is an understatement. This book was phenomenal! The writing flows and the reader cannot get enough. Itās not just a āpage Turnerā, this book is an āunable to put downer.ā The story being told in flashbacks as well as real time by two different characters is incredibly well done and the plot twist at the end is introduced in a subtle manner, it definitely leaves the reader satisfied. Great book, a must read.

Iāve read this book twice and Iād read it 100 times. You are in for what it would be like if a major celebrity were to have lived a double life and revealed everything right before their death- I believe Taylor swift will have an Evelyn Hugo style memoir one day. Anyways just read the book you wonāt regret it 5/5 forever.

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. This book has been recommended to me several times. Initially I wasnāt very interested since Iām just not that drawn to celebrity-centric media. This book is about an author who writes about a very famous; very glamorous actress and her 7 husbands- the 7 husbands arenāt whatās important, itās her life and how she lived it. Itās about how she grew and thrived while being married to one or in between marriages. This book was phenomenal. I didnāt see it coming. The story comes together so beautiful, so wonderfully. Itās heartbreaking, heartwarming and just an incredible masterpiece all in one. Thank you to my sweet friend, @emilyandee who bought me this copy. Iād highly recommend this book- itās an easy read, that will transport you ...Ā MoreThe Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. This book has been recommended to me several times. It's a best seller, and I chose it for my book club because none of us had read it. The subject seemed fascinating, and anyone who has married seven times must have had an amazing life. The writing style maintains your attention very well. I was completely stunned by the alternative lifestyle portrayed in the book which endured through most of the husbands. If I had known about this in advance, I would not have recommended the book.
I have no idea why this book is so highly rated. I only stuck with it to find out the big "reveal" was going to be that was so shocking and make the biographer "hate" the movie star . Read right past it and didn't even know that I had read it. What a weak woman. The biographer who was writing the lesbian's story obviously had some issues that weren't explained, since the incident caused her so much distress. Most importantly, it should be listed under the LBGT category. Why wasn't it?? I'm not a homophobe (had two gay cousins who I loved dearly), I just like to know what I'm paying cash for and what the book is about. Why not just spit it out? Was it supposed to be a stunning turn of events?? Hello, it's 2023. A gay actor was a shock back when Rock Hudson died of ...Ā MoreI have no idea why this book is so highly rated. Was it supposed to be a stunning turn of events?? Hello, it's 2023. A gay actor was a shock back when Rock Hudson died of AIDS 40 years ago. Unless you've been in a coma for 40 years, it's a big yawn. Homosexuality in the theater and arts is the standard, totally the norm today. The characters were not likeable, nor relatable. I can't dredge up empathy for whiny gazillionaires . I've dealt with worse issues than these whimps could ever imagine and didn't get paid millions of dollars to write about for it, like the biographer did. They need to get off the pity potty before their legs go numb. Don't even waste your money. If you feel that you must read it, get it from the library so you don't hate yourself for spending the money. I won't even donate it to Goodwill, like I do with books I've read. It will make a nice starter for a bonfire. The best use for it, if it ignites.
Imagine admiring someone, being given the opportunity to spend days with them to hear their life story, only to be punched in the gut by something the icon reveals. That's exactly what happens to Monique Grant. The publication she works for is contacted to do a piece on Evelyn Hugo, Old Glam Hollywood legend. However, she will only do it if Ms. Grant is the author. Monique is shocked along with her boss, Frankie. Once she arrives to begin the interview, things change. Evelyn Hugo wants Monique to pen her memoir, detailing all seven of her marriages and the true love of her life, Celia St. James. Things seem to progress pretty well until the punch in the gut comes. Monique learns something she did not expect about her father's life and death. Evelyn had told her that she could publish the book upon her death which would be soon. In the end, Evelyn now has breast cancer, which is what killed her daughter, Conner. She had told Monique that she really admired her piece on the subject of right to die. That's when things click into place. Evelyn Hugo wants to die the way she lived, on her own terms. This book is well written. The characters draw you in. I couldn't put it down! I cried with the revelations about Monique's father and knowing what Evelyn was about to do. It is a truly moving story and I highly recommend it.
.If you are by chance a person who hasnāt read this experience of a bookā¦consider this your sign from the universe to do it now. This is definitely a timeless classic read. There are so many layers to this one, & Evelyn Hugo is one heck of a main character. I admire her, but at the same time am terrified by her. This one had me gasping, shedding a few tears, & just straight up in all my feelings. And that twistā¦wow. Adding to my favorites. Loved it. Heartbreakingly beautiful.
Ms. Evelyn Hugo is certainly empowering. Her story is very touching. Overall it was an interesting page turner, although a few chapters were slightly boring. I felt a little torn with the ending. Pick the book up, itās worth the read.
The author apparently did no research on Hollywood, the paparazzi, award galas - nothing! She describes things that never would have gotten past the media, such as a husband not living with his wife. Even small scenes are a joke, such as when the two main characters are talking "privately" in the ladies room at the Oscars. Really? There's no attendant in the bathrooms at the biggest gala for Hollywood royalty? Even back in the 60's and 70's, they existed, as did the paparazzi. Just look at what they did to Marlon Brando. And the dialogue between the Evelyn and Celia is so dull, repetitive, and empty, as are the lives of the women. Who cares about Evelyn Hugo and her big breasts and self-awareness of her own beauty?
