I did a beef slow cook (actually cooked for about 6 hours in the end as I was in no rush) and it came out great. I ask myself whether this is of value. In the past I have cooked my own from scratch and buying all the ingredients becomes very costly. Especially if you are not cooking this regularly, the spices and ingredients will not be at their best after a few months. So this is where this comes in as a winner, at the right price point and in my opinion, fresh, very close to cooking from scratch.

It results in a dry rather than saucy curry as a traditional randang would be but that's where the authenticity ends. The flavour is not bad but wasn't as expected having had randangs before. That being said it was quick to make and tasty but there are better randang pastes out there.

Tried this for the first time and as a curry lover I’m SO chuffed with the result. Really fragrant chicken, as if it had been cooked in Indonesia for hours. Loved the flavour and the kit is so easy to use with fresh ingredients too… New fave!

I've eaten beef rendang in Indonesia, and this is the nearest spice kit that enabled me to recreate this dish. Very fragrant and tasty! After adding the coconut sauce, I then transferred everything into a slow cooker and cooked for 3 hrs on low. Beef was so tender and delicious! Definitely recommend!
First the disclaimer - I’ve never been to Indonesia. However Spice Tailor helped me make a really tasty curry, with a fairly thick sauce. I added an extra star anise and a dessert spoon of fish sauce, plus dedicated coconut sprinkled over the top, served with mango rice. Next time I will use half the chilli as it was a bit hot for us. Very yummy though.
Nice flavour. I like the spice tailors packs that include the dry spices. I think they really add depth to the flavour of the curry's. I've not had rendang before so can't compare for its authenticity. But I love the ease and how quick these packs are to make and taste so good.
Married to a Malaysian, I’ve tried a lot of rendang (restaurant and home cooked). The positives - when cooked for long enough (to boil off the water) with added dessicated coconut, it does have a nice texture to it. Very easy and convenient. I have tried a lot of other “cheat” sauces and they often leave Too much gravy which completely ruins things.Negatives - the taste is not quite spicy enough. Doesn’t have enough authentic rendang taste but easily one of the better attempts out there. Best I’ve seen so far is Dollee rendang past. Taste more authentic but does leave a lot of gravy which means the texture suffers
This Indonesian Rendang from the Spice Taylor is so easy to make in 3 simple steps and the flavours are wonderful. I loved the individual packet of spices which gave our kitchen a lovely aroma. I would not buy this for an every day curry due to the price, however I would buy it as part of a special occasion.
I am already a great fan of Spice Tailor. Bought the Indonesian rendang online as I find the Spice Tailor products on offer in the supermarket are somewhat limited. As usual a brilliant dish. Added a red and green pepper, mushrooms and an extra chilli as I like a bit more heat. It was extremely tasty and whilst I used chicken on this occasion will try it with beef in future. Excellent as usual.
Ive tried a few rendang mixes. From ocado, the supermarket, from Amsterdam and elsewhere. This is the best mix Ive had. By far. For all the naysayers, obviously a diy mix is not going to be as good as a Malaysian or Indonesian restaurant. Definitely recommend, and the price point is acceptable given quality and taste.
