Rogan Josh originates from Kashmir, where it was traditionally made simply with oil, spices, yoghurt and very fresh lamb. The dish seen in most restaurants and takeaways in this country is closer in style to a deep, hearty North Indian lamb curry and this is what I have based our Rustic Rogan Josh on. What this version does share with the original is its distinctive blend of spices and depth of flavour. If you are not in a hurry to eat, opt for leg or shoulder of lamb, cut into cubes, and slow-cook over a low heat (1 – 11/2 hours). The difference in the depth of flavour is worth the wait and the meal will be cheaper. If you don't have time, adding a little stock as you cook your curry will introduce a richer lamb flavour.

Brilliant, just like all the other Spice Tailor products we have used. Takeaways are now a thing of the past. This is the only manufacturer that we use for prepared base sauces. The extra tips on the packet, make every time a little different. Just very disappointed Tesco and Sainsbury seem to have dropped it from their shelves. Had to order our latest batch direct (which by the way is a great service as well)

As I make two meals on successive nights with each Spice Tailor pack, I once found myself on the second night with only prawns to go with my rogan josh. I wasn t really expecting it to work out, but it has subsequently turned out to be a regular and favourite dish of mine. The prawns become so succulent, it s making my mouth water as I write. Likewise, when lamb is not an option, I love making a veggie rogan josh with potato, carrot and leek. Proper hearty stuff to warm the heart and soul. Simply delicious!

We tried this last night with chicken and the verdict was that it was delicious. The only tweak was that I marinated the chicken in yoghurt/garlic/lime /chilli and cumin, put on skewers and grilled first. ( only because I wanted to try my new Ninja Air fryer toy!) The curry was delicious with just the right degree of heat to suit those not able to cope with very spicy food.

I was rushed, had one of these in my cupboard. I (lazily) put in all in my slow cooker with some chicken thigh fillets and cooked on low for 5 hours. I finished it off with some chopped, fresh coriander, served with spinach and rice and it was absolutely wonderful! Have already stocked up on more whilst they were on offer.
Fantastic flavour. This is a new family favourite (have to buy 2 though). Was going to use chicken but it specifies red meat so opted for lamb. Quick and easy. Bit expensive, but worth it.
I was recommended by an Indian friend of mine. I love cooking and very fussy with taste. I was not disappointed at all. I think it tastes even better if you follow Anjum's advice at the bottom end of the instruction. If you slow cook for >2hours plus adding water intermittently the meat will just melt in your mouth. Don't forget to add fresh coriander. Forget about buying the ready made sauce anymore as this is the best ever Rogan Josh better than Shere khan Manchester which was my favourite.
Rustic Rogan Josh is my joint favourite recipe in this range (along with Butter chicken). The cooking instructions are so simple to follow, the ingredients cook up a really authentic taste. I love this range, definitely the best taste I have found.
I'm pescatarian & a healthy eater so I used salmon with the Rustic Rogan Josh sauce as there are limited options in pre made supermarket ranges and always disappoint with depth of flavour. Takeaway often has too much ghee & oil as well as costly. This sauce was perfectly spiced, tasted fresh, warming and worked perfectly with the Salmon and such a great taste in 20mins start to finish.
Ordered this online, arrived ontime even during strike. Tried out a recipe suggestion. Quality of kit was excellent and instruction very clear. Food in approx 10 mins as claimed. Very good flavour and minimal washing up. Have bought 5 more different packs and recommended them to friends and family. More variety and choice online than supermarket. Will use them on our motorhome holidays as lightweight, quick and takes up little space.
we received the Rustic Rogan Josh from my father in law.1. Packaging- we found the packaging easy on the eye, attractive and tactile. It was easy to understand and nice to see the ingredients, especially the spices some of which i had never heard of.2.Cooking exeprience- my normal mode of cooking is usually out of a jar, but i do prefer the type that uses a seperate spice base and sauce. This gives me the feeling of doing more than just throwing it in the pan. When I started to cook the spices, the aroma was fabulous. I immediately felt I was doing this from scratch. The base was easy to add as was the main sauce. Cooking the whole meal out took no time really and was easy.3. Overall experience- this was a great way to make curry and the closest I have come to ... Morewe received the Rustic Rogan Josh from my father in law.1. Overall experience- this was a great way to make curry and the closest I have come to making it from scratch. My only critisism would be that there could be some more main sauce but that is all. I loved the overall concept and will be using the sauces again. I have Anjum's cookbook and this has inspired me to get some spices in and do it!!!Well done
