The tales of Ratty, Mole, Badger and Toad. When Mole goes boating with the Water Rat instead of spring-cleaning, he discovers a new world. As well as the river and the Wild Wood, there is Toad's craze for fast travel which leads him and his friends on a whirl of trains, barges, gipsy caravans and motor cars and even into battle. Kenneth Grahame (1859-1932) was born in Edinburgh, but grew up with relatives in Berkshire where he developed his love for the countryside surrounding the upper parts of the River Thames. He wrote several books including The Golden Age and Dream Days which includes the short story 'The Reluctant Dragon' (later made into a Disney movie). Kenneth Grahame developed the character of Toad in The Wind in the Willows to amuse his young son, Alistair. It was published in 1908 and still remains a best-loved children's classic.

Bought a copy of "The Wind in the Willows" for my partner, as it was one of the first books he read as a child. The book itself was absolutely lovely, with stunning art adorning both cover and interior. Pages were thick, which is nice, and it comes with a wonderful little case as well.He loved it, and we have no complaints, but it's worth mentioning that the cover is a slightly darker green than the colour shown in the given image, and same goes for the brownish/gold accoutrements. It also arrived a little later than was stated, but so long as it came before Christmas all was good. The delay was only by two days or so.

I'm glad I finally have a hardback copy of this book. I started reading it and it took me back to my childhood. I myself was especially fond of animal stories. The illustrations in the book are nice. This book is the reason why Mr Toads Wild Ride was one of my favorite rides at Disneyland! Now if you could maybe offer Watership Down in a nice hardback? The paperback copy of mine is falling apart ;)

I found the Folio Society after looking for a book from my husbands childhood that he loved; The Wind in the Willows. I am so happy I found this stunning version of this book. With no bits edited out and gorgeous coloured illustrations tucked into a nice slip to protect the cover of the book. He was blown away when he received this book and absolutely loves it! Took him right back and he could not believe I found it. A gorgeous edition of an old classic!

A wonderful book from my childhood. I am so happy to own this addition as an adult. Beautifully bound with a matching book sleeve. This Folio Society edition is illustrated by Charles van Sandwyk. Mr. van Sandwyk’s drawings depict the many characters in their very best light. I just know that Kenneth Grahame loved these illustrations. I searched for an unabridged edition so as not to miss one glorious word of the author’s writings. I highly recommend this book.
When I was a child, I had a "record" playable on a "phonograph" which really sounds ancient today, but it was my treasured keepsake for years and was all about the adventures of Mr. Toad. There were pictures in an accompanying booklet, too, but I never knew until now, many decades later, that the story came from a book called "Wind in the Willows." Now that I've read it, and basked in the memories of childhood fantasies based on this story, I have to give it an emotional high-5. Toad and his dearest friends, the mole, rat, and badger, go through enough different escapades in this book to delight readers of all ages, because it's so easy to relate modern-day trials and tribulations to the things these characters went through. Now the movie about Mr. Toad comes to life for me even more, since I know all of the details behind each scene which are too numerous to include in any film. This book is a winner in every respect!
One of my all time favourites. With 23 grandkids Booktopia is one of my first stops for Christmas and birthday presents! Wind in the Willows is really one of the classics that every kid should read. Highly recommend it!
I first read this book at High School when i was 14 yrs and loved it. Years went by and decided to read it again when in my 60's and enjoyed it even more, . And when i was faced with a needed surgical operation last year at 78 yrs, that came with great risk, i decided i would buy myself a present, and bought myself my own copy! The non abridged, illustrated edition is just the best., Well written, easily allowing you to be part of the 'going-on's'. Imagining it all so clearly, chuckling and laughing to myself as the story unfolded. The many illustrations throughout the book are lovely and the hard cover will keep it safe for years to come.
Oscar Wilde, wisely observed that some [his] literature was written for persons whom enjoyed the phenomenon of remaining [mentally] youthful.... C.S.Lewis and Enid Blyton, also told stories for this wonderful group as did Kenneth Graham. As a sixty five year old, and an emotional 'Peter Pan', I identify with a segment of the target group who would enjoy Graham's classic. That is not to say that I am lacking in Emotional Intelligence , rather that the enjoyment I [and others like me] draw from reading such literature arises from our 'forever young' attitude towards life. Pleasant mix of nostalgia, warm winter fires, soft rugs before a rusted heat hardened hearth and the companionship of the family sat around the pre-bedtime radio radio are elicited by such books as ... MoreOscar Wilde, wisely observed that some [his] literature was written for persons whom enjoyed the phenomenon of remaining [mentally] youthful.... I did not know this was an abridged version & may not have bought it if I had. I read complete & unabridged classics even as a child & this is a very precious book that I have returned to even as a teen & as a young adult. It's sad to lose any of this great piece of literature lost in an abridged edition. However, the Inga Moore illustrations are so enchanting, engaging & would have delighted Kenneth Graham himself, bringing so vividly & tenderly to life, this irresistible world of Ratty, Mole & Badger. The artwork is iconic & evokes the best of Shepherd & Rackham & other unforgettable children's literary illustrators. So this is a book to be treasured& passed onto the next generation, & certainly worth buying, but I have just purchased the complete abridged version ... MoreI did not know this was an abridged version & may not have bought it if I had. Being dyslexic, I've never really read to many books in my life preferring to do other things instead. This is the fourth book in a row I've read and enjoyed it the most, the images are like a watercolour painting in words and the caricature fire the imagination. No wonder so many other people enjoy this story.
