The Wind in the Willows [Book]

Since its first publication in 1908, generations of adults and children have cherished Kenneth Grahame's classic, The Wind in the Willows."" For in this entrancing, lyrical world of gurgling rivers and whispering reeds live four of the wisest, wittiest, noblest, and most lovable creatures in all literature--Rat, Mole, Badger, and Toad of Toad Hall. Like true adventurers, they glory in life's simplest pleasures and natural wonders. But it is Toad, cocky and irrepressible in his goggles and overcoat, whose passion for motorcars represents the free and fearless spirit in all of us; just as it's Toad's downfall that inspires the others to test Grahame's most precious theme--the miracle of loyalty and friendship.

Stunning! This boxed version of a beautifully produced volume look as good as new. It is large enough to use if reading the story to children and showing them the splendid artwork.I cannot believe how inexpensive it was, and the cost included the postage. I feel that I have been given a free gift by World of Books.cost luded

Wonderful book that is beautifully bound! Unfortunately, the dark green cover bleed onto another light pink book I ordered, not terribly though. The end of the spine was slightly dented which seems to be an overall problem for the collection, but it doesn't take away from the beauty of the book(s).

Bought a whole bunch of these Great Illustrated Classics books! Been reading them to my kids for school and general entertainment! We're enjoying them

Can't see any child not liking Wind in the Willows!

One of my all time favourites. With 23 grandkids Booktopia is one of my first stops for Christmas and birthday presents! Wind in the Willows is really one of the classics that every kid should read. Highly recommend it!

Good but does not have all the chapters
30 August 2019

I particularly bought this book to frame one of the illustrations. Nothing (in my opinion) can match the illustrations by E. R. Shepard, but the illustrations in this book are superb, in a completely different way. SUCH a shame that the chapter The Piper At The Gates of Dawn has been omitted, as it is one of the chapters that had a profound effect on me when I originally received the book as a present back in 1958. Is this a case of the publishers worrying about the 'pagan' connotations? A sad erratum.

How could you not love this delightful book!!
27 January 2020

I first read this book at High School when i was 14 yrs and loved it. Years went by and decided to read it again when in my 60's and enjoyed it even more, . And when i was faced with a needed surgical operation last year at 78 yrs, that came with great risk, i decided i would buy myself a present, and bought myself my own copy! The non abridged, illustrated edition is just the best., Well written, easily allowing you to be part of the 'going-on's'. Imagining it all so clearly, chuckling and laughing to myself as the story unfolded. The many illustrations throughout the book are lovely and the hard cover will keep it safe for years to come.

It's an I'll Wind....

Oscar Wilde, wisely observed that some [his] literature was written for persons whom enjoyed the phenomenon of remaining [mentally] youthful.... C.S.Lewis and Enid Blyton, also told stories for this wonderful group as did Kenneth Graham. As a sixty five year old, and an emotional 'Peter Pan', I identify with a segment of the target group who would enjoy Graham's classic. That is not to say that I am lacking in Emotional Intelligence , rather that the enjoyment I [and others like me] draw from reading such literature arises from our 'forever young' attitude towards life. Pleasant mix of nostalgia, warm winter fires, soft rugs before a rusted heat hardened hearth and the companionship of the family sat around the pre-bedtime radio radio are elicited by such books as ... MoreOscar Wilde, wisely observed that some [his] literature was written for persons whom enjoyed the phenomenon of remaining [mentally] youthful.... Nice little book with larger print.

Nice little book which will be more suitable for younger children. Im looking forward to reading it to my grandson. The print is larger and there are some fun black and white sketches of characters. Its a way of introducing a classic story and hopefully encouraging interest.

Wind in the willows

Being dyslexic, I've never really read to many books in my life preferring to do other things instead. This is the fourth book in a row I've read and enjoyed it the most, the images are like a watercolour painting in words and the caricature fire the imagination. No wonder so many other people enjoy this story.
