I never had one issue with this pad leaking down or tearing. I used it religiously for the next 10 years submitting it to the outdoor elements. Dear Cascade Designs,This sleeping pad is very hard to roll up and is very slippery with my Coleman sleeping bag. Would I buy another one? No! My previous Thermarest sleeping pad only lasted 40 years or so & I used it hundreds of times. I will be surprised if this one holds up as well.( I picked this one because it seemed to be the most similar to my previous pad. The old Thermarest was easy to roll up & was not slippery. I have no use for the self inflating feature, I’m old school I guess )Ed

Excellent Quality, Just a Little Awkward to Carry

I love the quality of materials, the quality of the manufacturing, the design, and the functionality of this pad. I got the "large" size, and I am a big man (255 lbs, 6'2"), and this pad is comfortable enough for me without sacrificing too much weight in transit. I have no doubt that this will provide ample insulation and padding for any/all needs, and that it will last a long time with proper use and care. The one gripe I have is that it is too long in its bag. This is because it comes directly from the manufacturer only rolled up, not folded in half along the width first as a lot of other sleeping pads that I have had in the past do. I guess this just makes it a little more awkward as far as storing it in/on my pack if I want to go backpacking. I'm having a difficult time figuring out how to store it in a way that my rain cover will keep it dry if I get caught in foul weather along the trail. If I'm not worried about foul weather, I can easily connect this thing onto my pack, as the bag it came with has a durable shoulder strap on which to secure a carabiner.

Great pad
3 December 2023

I have many therma-rest brand pads they have all last without issues and are very simple to use. Get to site unroll open valve. It will mostly self inflate. Give it a few puffs to firm up, get on and adjust firmness as desired by opening valve again. Consistent good ground sleeper but at my age I put it on my cot. This one’s a gift for a tough potential son in law who front country camps with just a tent and sleeping bag!

I have 3 different version of this product, spanning decades, all are still functional.I also have several thermarest portable seat cushions, using the same tech as these inflatable beds, all getting heavy use, hours everyday, as meditation cushions. My main basecamp, an older generation of this one, was over 10 years old and being used everyday as my bed, in my house. One day it developed an air bubble, due to the interior foam becoming delaminated from the shell, and the bubble grew bigger over a few days and the product became unusable.I remember the pad probably had a limited lifetime warranty, like the current models, and I contacted the company through email to inquire if my pad could be repaired. The response time seemed slow, about 2 weeks, but once we ... MoreI have 3 different version of this product, spanning decades, all are still functional.I also have several thermarest portable seat cushions, using the same tech as these inflatable beds, all getting heavy use, hours everyday, as meditation cushions. The response time seemed slow, about 2 weeks, but once we made contact, they confirmed they would honor the warranty. My pad's issue was not repairable, so they sent me a new one which arrived in about a week.I went back and looked at the statement for the warranty, and in it they said they would respond to request within 3 weeks. They kept their word!I'm super impressed. In this day and age, with all the lying and fraudulence going on in pharmacy, health care, supreme court, religion, I'm always happy to learn there are people who mean what they say, and honor their word.I love the thermarest products, and felt it was important to give positive feedback in this review, thereby inspiring other people and companies in the world to really have integrity, honesty, and support your products with conviction.

Fine for a child not for a guy who's working like a dog all day and needs a full nights rest. Maybe if you only sleep on your back but not for adults needing a restfull night.

Received defective pad.
9 August 2021

I received this pad today. I unpacked it, rolled it out, and added a bit of inflation to it to test it out. Then, following the instructions exactly, I proceeded to try to deflate it and put it in the nylon bag. I opened the valve exactly according to the instructions, progressively rolled it up as tightly as I could from the end opposite from the value, and put my weight on it to try to push the air out. Air did come out of the valve, but only in a small stream. I repeated the rolling and deflating several times over a period of 30 minutes or more. But this thing just doesn't want to deflate the way it should or as fast as it should.I called REI and spoke to a young lady who said that I should watch the deflation video, and that that video instructs to roll it up ... MoreI received this pad today. But in fact, the video doesn't say that. The first young lady patched me through to a second young lady, who said that the pad should deflate quickly. We agreed that the pad is apparently defective, and she was very helpful in arranging to send a replacement to me very quickly. Hopefully, the replacement will not be defective. If the second pad works the way it should, I'll change my rating to 3, 4 or 5 stars. But time is both life and money, and life and money should not have to be wasted dealing with defective products or other glitches because a manufacturer doesn't do adequate quality control or doesn't provide accurate descriptions or instructions for its products.

Why change a good product
26 May 2024

The slick slippery fabric not only makes the pad look and feel cheap but effects the functionality by making it difficult to stay positioned on the pad. The nylon that was used on Therm A Rest's and still used on the military pads was functional. Unfortunately it seems your military pads do not come in 30 in widths. For the premium price I should not have to thinking about a way to modify the pad especially since they used to be great right out of the box. And please do not respond that the new fabric is better because I do not believe it.

absolute garbage
28 November 2022

I reached out to customer service to try and handle this, they didn't respond, and apparently aren't interested in helping me solve this issue. If I could give zero stars I would.Anyway, this thing failed day one. It inflates fine, and is very comfortable at first, but loses air over night and I wake up on the floor...which is very uncomfortable.I'm sure it's an easy fix, bad valve or something, but again..customer service didn't respond or really seem to care at all. So it's starting to look like I've wasted about 150 bucks. I'll never buy from them again, and I encourage you not to either. Thanks for nothing

Just posted a review on my replacement pad (BA rapide), but I thought I should give some love to my tried and true since it's ol' reliable. Bought this back in 2021, and I've used it car camping, general camping, and backpacking in all kinds of weather and terrain. No leaks, no flaws, nothing. It's not the most comfortable thing out there for side sleepers (me), but man is it reliable. It's thick enough that it kept me out of the water when our tent leaked during a severe storm, didn't pop when we slept on the sharpest ground I've ever felt, kept me warm through winter storms, and is still looking brand new three years later. The pump sack isn't great, but it's small enough that I can blow it up with just my lungs if I'm in a hurry. Removed one star just for the comfort factor since I'm a side sleeper, but that's my only complaint. Still keeping this one around as a backup and as some gear to loan friends who want to camp but don't have some gear.
