This lumbar pillow really saved me extra discomfort on a long road trip recently. In the past I'd tried a variety of different things for back support, but they were either too squishy or seemed OK for a very short while but ended up causing pain for being too hard. I bought this specifically for the trip so can't speak to its uses in other circumstances. I have neck and jaw issues from an injury and find it difficult to maintain decent posture in car seats, however good the seats. I like the portability of it, but ultimately it’s just not a great lumbar rest. It’s too wide meaning that often it feels like when I sit back into it, most of the air is pushed to the side. And in plenty of cars the width interferes with the sides of the car seat making it an awkward fit . It’s also too flat to be an adequate lumbar rest. Good lumbar rests is cylindrical. This feels like someone looked at a standard thermarest sleep mat and shrugged imagining how east it would be to take the original form factor and shrink it down. All this being said I still take it with me went I rent a car or take the train. I just think it’s a fine product that could be so much better

I've purchased Therm-a-Rest products before, so I know the quality. I needed a collapsible back rest, so I didn't hesitate to buy this product. Excellent quality. You can adjust the firmness by changing the amount of air you let in. Best of all, you can collapse it flat to take on an airplane to use when your flight is long.

Great for a lumbar support. Easy to inflate or deflate by simple twist of the valve. This also fits perfectly in my Helinox Beach chair carry bag which Velcro’s to chair to use as a headrest. Now I can use as a lumbar pillow on the plane and then as a headrest pillow on the beach. Much cheaper and more functional than the inflatable Helinox pillow. Love the blue colour and the quality is great. Highly recommended.
Since there are no instructions to be found, I figured I'd share them here, as I have figured it out. The air valve if screwed open allows the pillow to be tightly rolled up in a compact cylinder, and then if you hold the pillow in this compressed shape and screw the valve closed tight, it will hold this shape making it easy to travel. Screw open the valve to let it self inflate and spring back into it's functional state. That's it! Simple and effective travel pillow for those of us with back issues. Great for air travel. I accidentally lost my first Therm-A-Rest lumbar pillow in Newark Airport while reorganizing my stuff after a flight and immediately bought another one. (I sure hope someone found it and is using it and that it didn't end up in the trash!) It makes a huge difference to have lumbar support on a flight. I made a strap to hold it after I roll it, including some fluorescent yellow, so hopefully I will not lose this one. I remember when I first read reviews that losing it / leaving it on a plane is somewhat of a problem. User error, not the fault of Therm-A-Rest!Buy one. Your back will thank you.
My house was being visited by hostile familiars up until the arrival of this pillow. Now I can wake up without an overwhelming sense of dread, knowing that I no longer have to cook them their favourite meals or dance for their entertainment. Thank you, therma-rest!
I use this in a non conventional way: not across lower back, but up and down spine, because I am small and don't want pillow blocking my elbows (forcing shoulders forward). Keeps my back straight and my shoulders back. Great feature is that level of inflation is adjustable. Comfortable foam layer. Durable quality. Easy to clean. Deflates very compact. Arrived in packaging that folded it in half, and the middle crease has remained after over a year of use. Also can only be inflated only by blowing with mouth (not pump to keep out moisture).
I have had two of these inflatable lumbar support cushions. I have a life-long lower back issue and use these and another brand for lower back support. The Thermarest provides excellent, adjustable, comfortable support. However, in both cases, after a few months use, the pillow has had problems with losing air and deflates over 30-45 minutes of pressure from usage. The first time I contacted Thermarest about this and they requested that I return the pillow to them. They then supplied another free of charge.I have not tried submerging the pillow in water to locate the source of the leak, but I suspect it might be the valve, which, incidentally, I do tighten reasonably tight.I have also owned a Thermarest camping mattress and it provided excellent service.
I love these pillows for back support but continue to have problems with longevity. The last two I have purchased do not hold air at the two-year mark. They develop a slow leak when in use and are non-functioning after 10 minutes of pressure. It seems to occur after use on an airline flight. Could be that the cabin pressure damages the seems. I tried to see if there is warranty but since I ordered them on Amazon have no place to return. If customer service could respond I'd appreciate it.
