I bought this mat for my girlfriend since I like my older Luxury Map so much. This latest iteration of the Luxury Map is a great product, but be warned that the regular size is very narrow. I’m guessing it’s sized this way to fit in smaller tents. If you have a larger tent, and aren’t very small, I recommend going with a larger size. The new style of valves work really well, and it seems like filling this mat is much faster than my older one. This is meant to be a car camping mat. I imagine you could use it for back country, but it’s not the lightest or most compact thing out there.

Bought the XL version for my wife and myself. We are avid campers with 3 young kids, doing a lot of car camping up and down the West Coast. Have used Thermarest products for 15+ years, and regard them as the best in camping mats. Passed on our older Base Camp mats to the kids and bought these LuxuryMap. Have used on 3 trips and they were excellent. The wife was very comfortable and slept very well. The mat can be made firm and supportive, keeps the air all night, keeps the body insulated from the ground. The mat inflates 75% on its own, then blow in a little air to your desired firmness. Easy and simple. To deflate, open the valves, fold the mat in quarters, lay on top, air is pushed out, close the valves, start to roll it up from opposite side of valves, open the ... MoreBought the XL version for my wife and myself. Easy and simple.

I'm a fairly big guy 6'1/220 and found this was comfy enough to sleep on my side. Only used it once but quality seems good. Easy to set up. You don't need a pump, a few breaths are enough to top it up. This is a better pick for car camping because it's relatively big even when rolled. About the size of a big yoga mat rolled.

I purchased the Luxury Map Sleeping Pad for my husband. He usually gets cold (even with an appropriate sleeping bag) when we tent camp, and the temperature drops to 50 degrees. This year he didn't get cold using this sleeping pad! He also said it was more comfortable than the air up mattresses we've used on previous trips. The first night was a little uncomfortable for him because we didn't inflate the pad enough. The next night we used an electric air pump to fill the pad and he slept amazingly. He is 5'8" and 180 lbs. I highly recommend this product!
While I can't agree with the other reviews here about this mattress' comfort rivaling that of my own bed, it is probably the most comfortable camp pad I've tried yet.Feels like a cushy self-inflating pad really, which shouldn't be surprising considering that's what it is. The most comfort is realised when the pad has the least amount of air in it. I'd recommend under inflating it to the point where you're about to bottom out and adding a thin foam mattress etc under your rear to keep you a bit warmer. Over inflated it feels not dissimilar to other self-inflatables, i.e. not overly soft and a little too bouncy for my liking. As far as the packability of the pad goes, yeah it's no neo air. Depending upon how much comfort you desire on your backpacking trips though ... MoreWhile I can't agree with the other reviews here about this mattress' comfort rivaling that of my own bed, it is probably the most comfortable camp pad I've tried yet.Feels like a cushy self-inflating pad really, which shouldn't be surprising considering that's what it is. Depending upon how much comfort you desire on your backpacking trips though it's not impossible to lug up mountains. Folded in half before being rolled up the pad fits fairly well into my standard 55L pack. Owning the larger model the weight is basically 2kg but I camp with a tarp not a tent and am pretty minimal with my other gear so to be honest it's no biggie. I spend quite a few nights in the bush throughout the year and while I may not take this pad on my next week-long trek for an overnighter I'll take this over my ultralight inflatable. The edges of the pad taper off enough for your arms to slide off a little so I use some clothing beside the pad to provide a barrier. If the XL size fit within my bug bivy I'd have bought that as wide = comfort for me, 50 inches being too narrow for a good nights sleep. All in all a pretty good pad, not as squishy as I'd have liked fully inflated but pretty comfortable with less air in it. Not impossible to put in your backpack if you're otherwise carrying minimal and/or lightweight gear. And go as large as possible. What's an extra 400g or so if you're already contemplating a 2kg pad?
So my 2002 luxury mat g9t a small leak. You sent me a patch kit, yea that did not work out so I started useing my bike Touring thermal restmit a had too patch the hole with 7 patches. Got out my 1994 thermal rest a seam ripped big bubble formed. So I ordered a new luxury there rest as I sleep on a thermal rest every night of my life there the best mattress for a bicycle Touring photographer who sleeps in a tent 100 nights a year on my camp rest and 265 nights on my Luxury Camp rest. There best of the 20 air mattress I have bought on rested my head on. BUT, EVEN the smallest leak ends the life of my mat. You can't fix a leak from the out side! Will I buy another well have two now both new most likely they will last ten years. would I recommend 100° yes
This is literally my bed. It has been my primary bed for over 4 years. I am laying on it right now and I swear to God this product fills me with joy. Go with a bigger size. The extra width is a game changer. I can't recommend this product enough. It's probably the best purchase I've made in my entire life.
This will be my go to car camping pad from now on. Best night ever sleeping outside. I have used both 1” and 11/2” thermarest pads for the past 40 years. Great for backpacking but as I’ve gotten older, it’s nice to have the added comfort of a 3” pad. But way too big and heavy to use while backpacking. The new valve design worked great. I would recommend the wider design (30”) and the 72” length, assuming you’re close to 6’ tall.
After temporarily moving in with friends after we sold our house, we had to come up with a creative solution to not having a conventional mattress. The room we stayed in had to be set up and torn down as a "bedroom" each day so we wanted something portable but also comfortable. Since both my wife and I love camping and the outdoors, my mind quickly turned to something that I thought could solve our problem. What if we got high-end mattress pads to sleep on and by combining two, it would act as a single "mattress" but also give us the versatility for easy set up at night and clean up each morning? After searching I kept coming across the Thermarest LuxuryMap Mattress. What if we got high-end mattress pads to sleep on and by combining two, it would act as a single "mattress" but also give us the versatility for easy set up at night and clean up each morning? After searching I kept coming across the Thermarest LuxuryMap Mattress. This is not a "backpacking" pad but one that could be used for car camping, and in our case, everyday sleeping! My wife is five foot eight inches and I am six feet tall, so we decided on the the large version of the mattress. There is a large option, XL option and regular option available. Each varies on the length, so we chose one that was 77 inches long. These pads inflate up to three inches which provides good stability and comfort when sleeping. There is a good reason why they call it a "mattress" because it does provide the sense that you are on a true mattress and not sleeping on the ground. We could both comfortably sleep on our side without waking up in pain. One trick that we used to make the experience more "bed like" was to add a fitted sheet over both mattress pads so that it kept them together and made it feel more like a single mattress instead of two separate ones. After almost 90 days of use, these pads easily stood up to the use and barely showed any type of wear and tear. Inflating was a breeze and by using the screw valve on the top corner, adjusting the firmness was simple and took seconds to do so. There were many nights and even weeks that passed without ever having to inflate the mattress pads at all. They do provide a nice stuff sack that the pads go back into when finished and work great for storage and travel. Even once they have been placed in their stuff sack, they are still too large to pack in a backpack but would work great for car camping or even sleep overs at the house. When guest come in, we use this as a bed option and provide regular bed linens to make it feel like a guest bed. The only difference is they are sleeping lower to the ground! If you are in the market for a mattress pad, I highly recommend this one.Happy adventuring!
The mattress was recommended by every article I read, so I gave it a shot. Its big enough for a 6'4" 180lb person. Other than that it was not the best. It wasn't silent, and defiantly made noise when moving around. The first night I used it, I was touching the ground the next morning. I reinflated it and the next night, the same thing happened. Plus when I would sleep on my side my shoulder would touch. I know I'm bigger than average, but still pretty lean. I feel like this should have supported me.I guess it did fill up pretty quickly and it was nice not having to blow it up, but thats where it ends. If an air mattress doesn't keep you off the ground its pretty useless. Then came the requests for reviews. Email after email showed up. I unsubscribed and they still ... MoreThe mattress was recommended by every article I read, so I gave it a shot. Its big enough for a 6'4" 180lb person. Other than that it was not the best.
