I can't speak for how well it cools when over-clocking. I'm content with rated speeds of the processors these days. A couple hundred Mhz more on a 4Ghz+ processsor is just not that noticeable. I'm running a i7-6700K @ 4Ghz and the cooler is doing its job nicely.

This cooler is all you need. I have a 5800x3d and temps are amazing. Cinebench test after 10mins was 74c and could barely hear the fans. Compared to my ek waterblocks 240 aio this is night and day difference in cooling performanceFor the price you can’t go wrong with this gem
I didn't realize the LEDs on the fan had some sort of patter to them. I uploaded a very short video to that tube of U's website if you wanna see. It's short, but you can see that the lights change intensity and stuff. Just search on there for the model number and you should find it.
Quieter than a mouse, that's asleep, in a sleeping bag, under the floorboards, in someone else's house.
I used this to replace a Cooler Master T3 92 mm cooler, which worked well enough but had the Intel-style push pins and never felt secure enough. In fact a few times when I took the side panel off of the PC to clean out the dust I found one of the pins had worked its way loose so I decided to get a cooler with a back plate. This Enermax cooler works every bit as well as the T3 but has a much better mounting solution, and a black sleeved cable which the T3 lacked. If you're looking for a compact air cooler this is a good choice.

The instructions say use a smaller rubber standoff between the backplate and motherboard, and a larger one on top for the heatsink mounting hardware to mount on on top of the motherboard. I imagine if I had swapped these two pieces, I could have use the enermax mounting hardware and not zip ties, but for 14.99 I can't really complain.
