Changed my mind

I was originally really stoked about this little gizmo. I bought it in 2021 and used it the entire 2021 camping season. However, after the season ended I changed my mind after some deliberation. First, the pump is very slow, taking several minutes to inflate either my Uberlite or Xtherm. I can inflate both by mouth in about a minute. Also, the pump doesn't fully inflate the pads, requiring me to top it up with three or four breaths. Second, it uses two AAA batteries which seems to cut against the grain of modern backcountry devices being USB rechargeable. Third, it's heavy.I replaced it with a Flextail Pump Zero. It's lighter (1.2 oz), fills my pad in about one minute, and provides a full inflation. At most I need to top it up with a single breath. Doesn't fit my last gen Neoair pad & cheapo plastic

Beware, there is nowhere on the box that it states that it doesn't fit the old style valves. And I bought this in a town I'll never go to return it after being forced to buy yet another micropump after my last two micropumps broke for the same lame reason (cheap, brittle, super-undersized plastic lock-clip on battery door means disappearing act for door which means the pump is instantly unusable since the cover has the electrical connection built into it to connect the two batteries.) So the engineers fixed that lame problem in this iteration, used the same cheap plastic undersized clip on this door, but thankfully, when that door disappears on you, which it will- I promise, the pump will still work. For $45 you'd think this could be done right. $150 and three pumps later, it's still essentially a doomed-to-break, cheap plastic toy and it doesn't even come with a 10 cent adapter to fit the older pads (and I mean two years old, not ten) nor does it come with a replacement valve so an adapter isn't required. Shame on you Thermarest. This may be a sport where most everything is overpriced (and Thermarest gets the grand prize for that!), but it certainly isn't a sport for the thoughtless.

Not as quick as I'd like and not rechargeable

First point to make is that I'm surprised so many people complain in their reviews that the "NeoAir micro pump" isn't compatible with their sleeping pad that is not a NeoAir!!! C'mon guys, the hint is in the name.My impression is that it works well but not quite as I'd like it. It does inflate my NeoAir to a decent level, but I like a firm pad so need to top up with at least one breath. I know, a small irritation but there we are. It's also a bit slower than I'd ideally like, but it does get there. I would've been happy to carry a few more grams for a more powerful unit. The big gripe is that it's not USB chargeable. You can use rechargeable batteries obviously, but it would be nice to have a USB socket on the unit for recharging on the go.

Not functional
23 October 2023

I cannot recommend this product, due to poor functionality. I am taking my kids on their first backpacking adventure and am preparing to do most of the carrying and setting up the tent. This looked like a great product to allow me to get one sleeping pad inflated automatically while I was manually pumping another. I did a test run at home, and I had completely filled my sleeping pad manually before this one had gotten it 1/3 full. I let it run a little longer then decided it would be faster and less annoying to just manually pump the second one. Not worth the extra weight. I will say that the attachment to the sleeping pads works quite well and it is small and light. Thermarest NeoAir Pump New
10 July 2023

Really designed to inflate the new Thermarest wing valve mattresses.Easy to pack, lightweight and compact this NeoAir New mini pump beats using lung breath power. I’m not a fan of blowing up air mattresses with breaths from my lungs. Life is measured by breath taking.views not by inflating sleeping pads. How many breaths does it take to inflate a mattress? I’m not sure must have passed out when I got light headed and dizzy.I decided to try using my Thermarest NeoAir pump sack that fits over the original older style valves along with the new NeoAir pump filling the pump sack coupled to the mattresses. It worked better than my lungs and nearing the end of filling capacity. I rolled the pump sack for the desired higher pressure in my old style Thermarest mattresses. ... MoreReally designed to inflate the new Thermarest wing valve mattresses.Easy to pack, lightweight and compact this NeoAir New mini pump beats using lung breath power. The new pump really should be designed to fit both old and new style valves. Why would a company like Thermarest being in business for 50 years produce a product that doesn’t provide customer satisfaction. I still own and use my Thermarest mattresses when they were first available many years ago. Long winded my apologies must have been caused by filling my Thermarest products for so many years. Happy Camping enjoy the fresh air in the great outdoors.

Very disappointed in its output
8 September 2024

I used this Therm-o-rest Neoair Micro pump for the fist time this weekend. I purchased last Nov from REI. I thought something was blocking the pump output as my Therm-o-rest Xtherm MAX pad was connected to it for over 10+ mins and mattress would not get hard at all. I finally disconnected pump and had to blow in 6 or 7 puffs to get the mattress hard. Many other reviewers said the same thing. Very disappointed in it.

Works as advertised
19 March 2021

Haven’t used in the field as I just received the pump today, but I did give it test. It works as advertised and inflated my Neoair Uberlite in approximately three minutes. The completed inflation didn’t bring the mattress to full capacity. Rather, the mattress needed three regular mouth breaths to complete the inflation. But depending on your personal comfort preferences, you may or may not want to add these three extra breaths. Deflation took less time, about a minute or so.My only criticism of the pump is the switch used to turn it on and off. It’s raised above the housing of the pump and I could easily see it being inadvertently turned on from jostling about in my pack. I would have had this switch run flush with the housing to avoid this potential issue. ... MoreHaven’t used in the field as I just received the pump today, but I did give it test. It’s easy enough to put them in once you’ve made camp. This is a luxury item so if you’re a UL enthusiast this isn’t for you. Personally I don’t mind the few extra ounces this adds to the pack. Of course for car camping or trips not involving a lot of foot travel, this little gizmo could be a brilliant addition to one’s gear.

Worst pump ever - don't waste your money!
24 May 2024

I bought this pump with 2 NeoAir Topo Luxe Sleeping Pads. It took about 20 minutes to get a pad to a limp biscuit state. This is not a reasonable timeframe when you may be getting into camp late, have 2 pads to inflate and want to get to bed asap.I then tested it against the older pump for the origial NeoAir (which fits if you stretch the silicon rubber over it) and ensured that I had fresh batteries in both pumps. The "new and improved" pump didn't do much better than the old one.I ended buying a Flextail, TinyPump 2X (about the same price) and it inflated the pad fully in about 2 minutes. Wrong product for needs.
28 November 2023

Wrong product for me. have made initial enquiries via email to establish if another product is available and if a possible return is an option. Not had a response as yet. I purchased the pump assuming it would fit my Thermarest NEOAIR XLIGHT mattress. unfortunately, it only fits the mattress with a wing lock valve. My mattress has the classic valve. I've asked the question if there is an adaptor to make it work or simply another micro pump product. Many thanks.Gary Hayes.Department of conservation.Twizel
