I bought the Parsec 20º sleeping bag for my wife as a gift earlier in the year. We didn't get a chance to use it until early June of this year. It was in the low 40s overnight at altitude in the Rockies. We were in a tent, sleeping on an air mattress with blankets under us (car camping). I though she would be stoked on her new bag but she said she was cold (this coming from a hot sleeper) in the morning on her backside. When she showed me the under side of the bag there was no down under her back. Just nylon. This is why I bought the bag for her, to replace her 20 year old bag that had worn thin in that exact same spot. We were not even backpacking which is why I got her this particular bag. I did a lot of research before I made a decision on this bag and feel I was falsely advertised to. I for sure was on the size of the bag since she is only 5' 4" and it said the smaller version should fit her fine but was it more suited for a child. I had to return the first one and get the regular size. Now, this bag says it's 800 fill but it is not at all full. She would rather stick with her old bag. This sleeping bag is not as advertised. I am thoroughly disappointed in this product. I don't know what bag the reviews were talking about, it is certainly not the one I received.

I would hang the bag out each morning and it would dry quickly and the loft remained.

I took it out in 7 degree temperatures with industry certified thermometers and tested it out! I would not recommend Thermarest Parsec 0° Down Sleeping Bag below 5 degrees after my usage and testing. ***The “synergy link” straps that attach to your sleeping pad very likely won’t fit your pad***. Doesn’t fit my thermarest xtherm wide or my Nemo tensor. honestly I don’t think these would fit a “normal” size width pad either. It is bizarre that thermarest would not include compatibility between their own products. Especially as they have started developing more and more products at the “wide” 25 inch form factor. Therma rest has really started falling off. Lack of attention to detail makes you question price tags when you get to the ~$500 range. Why even include pad straps at that point….I have reached out to Cascade Designs to inquire about this. No response so far.
I have tested the bag at -10c and was comfortable. The hood is an excellent fit and massively thick. The draw string once cinched doesn’t leave a rigid edge. The string ends also hang on the outside of the hood. You can fit a large iPhone in the exterior pocket. It’s a relatively roomy fit for a mummy bag allowing you to sleep on your side. After doing lots of comparing of different models at this price range, this bag weighs less, even with the same shell thickness and more fill. I don’t use compression bags anyways, but the compression bag that comes with this is complete trash. I use a 20L Sea to Summit ultra sil stuff sack instead. The pad straps I don’t use either, but note that they won’t fit a 25 wide pad.
I purchased the 0 degree bag and love it. It is pretty lightweight and compresses down nicely. It is nice for winter camping in most situations, unless you are in extremely cold weather. I have seen people true test this bag and find it to keep you comfortably warm around 5-7 degrees, which, for a 0 degree rating, is excellent.I would recommend the 0 degree to anybody considering camping in very cold weather. The material seems pretty durable, but obviously as a down bag, should be treated with care (it should last longer too). Anyways, hope this helps...Also, I would definitely recommend being patient and finding this bag when it is discounted. At full price, it isn't 'cheap' by any means, but still considering its quality, I would pay for it if I couldn't wait ... MoreI purchased the 0 degree bag and love it. I purchased this and returned it immediately.1. The QC on this product is not great. One end of one of the tabs that is used to attach the sleeping pad straps was not sewn into the bag, useless. How it left the factory like this, for this expensive of a product? I have serious doubts as to the durability of this bag. Those tabs, and the strap at the top look like they will all rip out or break quickly.2. The shape of the bag just didn't feel right. It was very tight at the shoulder compared to the legs and feet. Just not well thought out. I would recommend sizing up if you're close to the size limit.I returned the defective bag and got a bag I know will last at least decade and won't fail me when I need it, Western Mountaineering Terralite. I received my thermarest sleeping bag as a gift, and, on a 40 degree night, I was cold. I'm actually a hot sleeper, so I was surprised that I was cold in the sleeping bag, but realized that my bag didn't seem to be filled enough filling – it's practically empty on the top section, just two thin layers of the fabric with no filling! I'm surprised that many people reported that this was a warm sleeping bag, as I did not find that to be the case at all. It is likely a quality control issue, I must have received a bag that was underfilled and therefore not insulating. I'm very disappointed and will not recommend thermarest sleeping bags in the future. I do have a thermarest pad that works great, but this sleeping bag is not as advertised. My husband is bummed out as he bought it for me as a gift and it seems that we have to pay $50 just to have Thermarest look at it – which is ridiculous, it's defective. I am so bummed out that in today's world WE are the quality control and beta testers of products. I have a 20 year old sleeping bag that is warmer than this one. This would be fine if you're sleeping in 50˚ weather, but if it's colder, don't expect to stay warm.
This bag as been really great! Have had it for a while now and very much been enjoying it. Therm-a-rest, had some really great updates with this bag. 3 things I really liked about it are 1. It fits great. I am 5'9" using a regular and this bag feels comfortably roomy while also not being so big that it makes me cold! This is a great bag if you don't like narrower bags like the MH Bishop. its hood fits real nice, keeping my head nice and toasty and can be pulled even lower using the chords. Finally the draft collar it awesome. 2 This bag is really packable and compresses well. The compression bag that comes with is a really good size. When its in compressed in this bag I think its even seems smaller when compressed than the picture on the website. This was a really nice surprise and a real bonus. 3 This loft on this bag is really great. comping out of the compression bag it does not take long at all to get this bag to its full loft and when you get inside its warmth feels immediate. The draft collar is just as lofty and keeps that worm air in.Things to consider: This bag is warm! and one thing to remember is that 20 is the transition temp and it will be its warmest at temps in the low 30s. Lower than that you may want to have or wear a warm layer inside the bag or use a liner in case you get cold. Finally this bag is best paired with the NeoAir XTherm Sleeping Pad in colder temps and the NeoAir XLite Sleeping Pad in the fall and spring. This bag uses less down on the bottom where it is often most compressed and meant to be used with a warmer pad (higher R-rating) when used at its lower temperature rating.
This is a phenomenal sleeping bag except one huge overlook by Thermarest! How do you make a sleeping bag with synergy link connector straps that don’t fit around your own branded 25” wide sleeping pads!?! How I’m the world does this make it out of quality control of a multimillion dollar business!?! The synergy link connector straps are necessary to keep the less insulated bottom part of the bag in contact with the inflatable insulated pad!I contacted customer support for Thermarest and the answer I got:“sorry we don’t make wide pad synergy connectors, it says in the product usage page they’re compatible with 20” wide pads and mattresses 3” thick or less.”I’d only recommend the Parsec 0°f sleeping bag if you only use 20” wide pads or don’t care to use the straps!
