A long-time favorite of comfort-craving female backpackers, the Therm-a-Rest Women’s ProLite Plus sleeping pad is a lightweight, compact option for all but the coldest of conditions. Self-inflating foam and strategic die-cutting provide the pad with a 3-season worthy 3.9 R-value. The pad provides a 1.5”-thick sleeping base. The diagonal-cut foam core offers cushioned support but is also extremely compressible to ensure a compact packed size when uninflated. A self-inflating design allows you to simply unroll the pad and open the integrated one-way WingLock valve. The pad's open-cell foam responds by soaking up air, similar to a sponge absorbing liquid. Once the pad has inflated, you can adjust the firmness by adding a few puffs of air or pressing down lightly on the pad to release air. The Therm-a-Rest Women’s ProLite Plus sleeping pad measures 20” x 66”. A stuff sack is included.

I’d been wanting one of these for quite some time based on reviews I’d read on it, and it didn’t disappoint! It’s first trip/test was for 2 nights of rustic camping in one of our SÉPAQ parks, down to 5c at night with rain. Worth noting, I layer a Therm-a-rest foam pad beneath for added insulation - not required but a nice extra.I slept so so well! Never once was cold, I felt well supported, no back pain afterwards ans the setup is so so simple: tool 2mins to top up the inflation after letting it sit in the tent for a little while (but can be inflated in minutes if you’re short on time) and deflated & packs up in 5mins as well. Very efficient. It fit my tent perfectly (MSR Elixir 2) and provided me with more than enough ground cover.Very very happy with my ... Overall great product. I've been using Therm-a-Rest products for many years for their combination of comfort and durability and this pad delivers more of the same. I'm 6'3" and 215lbs and this pad is comfortable even laying on my side. It also rolls up much smaller and is lighter than the pad it's replacing. I know others have noted they've had trouble getting the pad back into the stuff sack. I found it easy. Get as much air out as you can then leave the valve open as you roll it up. Close the valve once it's rolled up so the self inflating pad doesn't, you know, self inflate again. Easy peasy.

After less than 4 months the seams are delaminating and letting air out of the mat. I wake up with a stuff, painful back and deflated mat. I am beyond disappointed. This is the second thermarest model which had delaminated for me. I will not give this cowboy company any more of my hard earned cash.

This was my first real buy for my future plans to thru-bike the Appalachian trail. I've never really backpacked before but I've done a lot of research in the last couple months on gear and equipment. After taking this pad out on a real trip, I love it. The size, thickness, and durability all seem top-notch and I felt relieved that I made a good purchase. My partner in crime who I hope to thru hike the AT with had a therm-a-rest pad as well but her's was "ultra-light" and took longer to blow up as well as squeaked a lot at night. Mine on the other hand was quiet and very comfortable.
I think the extra cost and weight of the ProLite Plus pad over the ProLite is worth it for the extra thickness and R value because it is noticeably more comfortable and warmer. A self-inflating pad is so much easier to inflate compared to the NeoAir pads because Thermarest still doesn't make a good pump sack. (Thermarest copy the Vaude Pump Sack design!). Also, the self-inflating pads are quieter to sleep on.
I’ve used my Thermarest pad for several backpacking trips and I am grateful for its cushiness. My bony hips seem fine w sleeping on the ground somehow and I have to give credit to the pad. When I set up my tent I open the pad valve and go do other things. The pad inflates a tiny but not as much as I had hoped it would. I just blow it up and it doesn’t take that much effort.I was just now putting my gear away from a recent trip—my pad gets unfolded and I store it in a giant cloth bag I stitched up, behind an armoire—where it waits for the next trip!
I give this pad five stars because it works and does its job. I’m coming from a 3 inch pad though, so this one is a very thin! I actually put a Z pad underneath it. And decided it might not be worth carrying and if I’m going to use a thin pad I might as well just use the Z pad. I’ll save my thicker, one for colder seasons! I guess I’ll find out what I decide shortly!
I bought this a year ago, it does not self inflate much really at all. Which isn’t huge deal. I’ve used it 10 times now on cycle touring trips and I don’t find it provides a good restful sleep. Lots of tossing and turning, I get in a comfy position but after a bit if I’m sleeping on my back it begins to ache, or if on my side my shoulders/hips are digging into the ground and begin to ache. For the price of this you should just splurge on a better mat. I bought the Ether Light XT mat and it is a game changer.
This Thermarest Prolite Mattress has been a good purchase. Fast to deflate, easy to pack. Extremely lightweight. I like the durability and self inflating feature of this sleeping pad. It will self inflate as long as you are not in a rush. I'm a light sleeper and all the other lightweight pads I've tried are too noisy for me. Bigger stuff sack (with compression straps) greatly helps packing the mattress back.
I will be honest: I don't care who says the air mattresses are lighter and therefore better for backpacking . . . I'm sticking with my tried-and-true Thermarest Pro-Lite Plus. After two times trying two different top-rated air mattresses that deflated (like on-the-ground-in-the-morning deflated) the second time I took them backpacking, I went back to Ol' Betsy and am not looking back! There have been upgrades to the last version I had. For one, the mat is all red, whereas the old one was grey on one side (not sure why? I always wondered if it had some sort of other quality I had forgotten about). The upgraded knob has a tightener in addition to the pop-out valve so when you're blowing up the mattress, it doesn't deflate while you're huffing and puffing. The stuff ... The upgraded knob has a tightener in addition to the pop-out valve so when you're blowing up the mattress, it doesn't deflate while you're huffing and puffing. The stuff sack is also waaaaaaay better (i.e. larger) and has compression straps. The only thing I would add to this setup? A velcro strap so you can actually keep the pad compressed after you've rolled it up so it will fit inside said stuff sack and/or won't inflate when you're changing altitudes (contrary to what TaR says, the mat does inflate a little even when the latch is sealed). So, bottom line: Yes, it's slippery. Yes, it's also a little too narrow (Hello! Women have HIPS.) And, yes, it's heavier and bulkier than a fancy-pants air mattress... but my old one lasted 8 years before it started deflating when it wasn't supposed to, so I'm sticking with it.
