If you are a bit anxious about doing the installation yourself, then feel better knowing that THINKWARE has installation instructions on their website for the power supply, the front camera, and the rear camera. If you just dont want to take any chance of a mistake then you can always set an appointment with GeekSquad Auto and get a pro to install it. You can live view, download stored videos, and manage the settings of your cameras from the companion THINKWARE Dash Cam Link App. Nowadays its an absolute must to have a dashcam, there are too many crazy drivers out there and having video proof can be the only thing keeping your from getting the runaround by the other party and their insurance company. I love my new THINKWARE Q200 and I absolutely reccomend it.

The rear cam itself is also a bit tricky to install on my SUV since the window is part of the door so when it opens, we have to make sure the cable is not too tight, just loose enough to open the door comfortably. After everything is set up, the dashcam does its job silently, with cool add-ons like crash alerts and lane warnings. Although I wish it has an LCD screen so I can easily see the footage real time. To view the videos, I get the SD card from the device and insert it into my laptop - another option is to view them via the app. Perhaps an improvement in the future could be cloud storage so access to the videos will not be as much hassle. The video quality is exceptional at daytime, but quality decreases slightly, as expected, at night and particularly when driving in low lit areas or when the weather is poor. So far so good, the dashcam does the job well, reliable, and I am feeling more secure knowing that my daily drives are being recorded, as well as when the car is parked - very important feature for me as I usually use street parking in busy urban areas. Just the peace of mind on the road it provides makes the investment worth it.

The THINKWARE Q200 seemed like it could be a good one to look at.The THINKWARE Q200 has a 2K/Quad HD (2560x1440) front camera and a Full HD rear. The video quality for both is pretty good, well, as good as can be in a moving vehicle. What was surprising was that the viewing angle is only 125º where my others have been 140º, but it still is enough for most situations. As I've always come across and as somewhat expected, nighttime videos can come out a little grainier when less light is available (but that is pretty much the same with any digital camera/video camera/dash cam).One thing to notice right away is that the Q200 series does not have an LCD screen (as seems to be the case with all their Q series dash cams). While some may not like it for that reason, I was actually fine with it, for the most part. The other brands of dash cams I have do have LCD screens. How often have I used them? Really only to configure them the first time or update the configuration. I usually set the screen timeout low just to have it turn off as soon as possible to reduce and possible distractions (in one of our cars, it has been installed right behind the mirror so cannot even see the display anyway). For reviewing the videos, I will always just grab the microSD card and load it on a computer or tablet. So, that is actually one less thing to worry about going bad (as has happened with the one it is replacing). So, how is it configured then? By using their DASH CAM LINK app. First, it pairs up using Bluetooth, then to actual connect to be able to adjust the setting or view the video library, it will connect using Wi-Fi Direct. There is also a Live View mode that will display lines to give a general idea on where to mount it (with a centerline and a line to align to the front edge of the hood).There are a few things about the overall design that I'm not sure about, but not completely worried about. One thing is the sizing. It is a bit wider than most dash cams I have used and seen before, but it isn't very tall (due to no screen) or thick. Also, it does come with a plug-in external GPS sensor, which itself adheres to the windshield. I prefer the simplistic design of one of the other dash cams we have that the GPS sensor is built into the mounting base, so less windshield real estate is needed. Another thing is that once mounted to the windshield, it cannot be temporarily removed.Another design choice that felt was really missing is not having the ability to connect/power up using USB. That would have allowed me to make all the setting configurations inside before going out to install in the vehicle. Plus, that also means the microSD card must always be removed to view or save the videos to a computer, unless looking on the phone app.While the overall design choices may not be my favorite, it makes up for it with the included functionality. While it does have some of the similar items as most dash cams, such a Smart Parking Mode (when enable to automatically record any incidents that may involve the vehicle while parked), it has some built in safety features that I have not come across before. It has included ADAS - Advanced Driver-Assistance System - that provides Forward Collision Warnings System, Lane Departure System (which is configurable to only be active above a certain speed), as well as Front Vehicle Departure Warning. I will not be using it as the vehicles we have already have these capabilities, it could be helpful for older vehicles without any of those (each one can be turned on or off separately).There is also a PC app that can be downloaded and installed, DASHCAM PC VIEWER. This is designed to allow coupled viewing of the front and rear camera videos and provide GPS mapping. I've had some issues with getting the video viewing to work, but the GPS mapping feature is great. I'll keep trying to get it all to work.There are several bundles that can be purchased through their site, but currently only one from Best Buy. This one also includes a hardwiring cable kit (which is needed if your vehicle's 12V power port cannot stay on while turned off and the Smart Parking Mode wanting to be used) and spare mounting adhesive. If not wanting or not physically being able to use the hardwiring kit, they also have a power cable that can plug in the ODB-II port under the steering wheel.This does seem to be a very good dash cam overall, with a few features that make it an even better deal for some. It is definitely one to consider if not needing an LCD display.

I have been using this dashcam for close to 10 days now so this is not an early assessment. I have had a dashcam from Yi and a 1080 Dashcam with ADAS from Transcend in past so that is what I will be using as a reference point.First the negatives.The setup could have been much better, There were no paper instructions in the box and the scanned QR code took me to a link which did not work, so off to internet I went. As there is no screen you will need to download an app on your phone. The same works fine in the Phone App, which I am guessing is calculating it on the fly. There is a PC app which shows the GPS speed correctly but unfortunately ask for administrator rights every time it is launched.The app does not offer much customization with the volume, there is a welcome message at the start, and I could not find a way to disable that unless I turn off the volume but when I turn the volume off, I am also turning off any advance road safety features. There is no volume button on the device itself, but you can turn off the voice recording if you hold the recording button. Do note that the manual states that "Select the desired volume level for each feature (Safety Cameras/ADAS/System)." but the app itself just shows on and off.Done with the negatives, lets continue with the review.It is a small device which can easily hide, if you want you can add a GPS module to it and the rear a rear dash cam. I got the full package along with the OBD2 cable but I have not yet explored the parking features, I will update the review once I get to that.The video quality is good but not great, my Yi 2k dashcam looks similar but that is probably 7+ years old. If you use the super night vision it shows shimmer in daytime video. I did not like that and have turned it off. You CAN see the number plate clearly from the front camera.I tested ADAS and noticed that the feature which tells me that the car ahead moved works reliably. I am yet to hear a beep for lane change and I did try lowering the speed in the settings. My Transcend dashcam does it every time I change the lane and I hate that, so I am not sure if Q200 is just smart or not working at all.Do note that the manual states that, "To use the road safety features, you must install an external GPS receiver".I do not drive a lot now days so have not yet tested the parking features, but I will update when I will.It came with extra mounting tape for both front and rear dashcam with a long enough cable for both power and rearcam. The rear cam can rotate if you need it to record inside of the car.Build quality of the camera and the accessories is good. It is a good setup, with lots of options in the App, I think what makes it a bit lackluster is the camera lens itself, it is really basic even when I compare it to the dashcams I have used in the past.The PC apps can change the settings of dashcam, which should mean that they are saved in a file on the MicroSD card.I think it is a good entry point if you want to do more than just the very basic dashcams in your car, with front cam capable of recording plate and more than decent in App control with some really advanced features like parking mode. I really hope thinkware will bring the volume option in the app in future.

The rear channel camera cable was able to go along the top of the A-pillar, under the weatherstripping into the headliner to the rear of the car, where I was able to tuck the cable neatly into the headliner and under the center high mount stop light access panel and finally into the rear camera. There was quite a bit of cabling excess in the rear, so I suspect this cable would reach the rear of even the most extended SUVs. I mounted the GPS unit near the front camera on the windshield – and even though the GPS antenna was mounted under some of the dark detail on the top of the windshield, it performs flawlessly. I was able to tuck the excess GPS cabling up into the headliner as well. The provided trim tool was invaluable in getting trim pieces pulled back just enough to tuck the cable in and then restore those trim pieces under bits of weatherstripping.One of the first things I noticed about this unit was the lack of a screen. Most dashcams have a screen, but how often do you actually look at the screen of your dashcam? The lack of a screen makes this unit very compact, which means it takes up less real estate on your windshield and provides less distraction while driving.I am an Apple iPhone user, so the initial setup of the unit is completed by downloading the Thinkware DashCam Link app from the App Store. Once you download the app, you have to press one of only two buttons on the dashcam itself – the button with the radio waves / Wi-Fi indicator. Once you press that, the app finds the camera and establishes a connection to let you modify the webcam's settings. You can get a live view and guidance arrows on your phone that help you adjust the dashcam for optimum field of view by moving the camera to align lines on the live view with the hood line and center point of the hood.Basic settings include the spoken language of the voice alerts, recording settings, and battery protection settings for parking mode.By default, the camera records both channels in continuous priority, which, to my understanding, records one-minute videos in a first-in, first-out continuous loop. You can also set the camera to incident priority, where if the camera detects an impact to the vehicle, it will record a 10-second video before/after the impact and store it in a different folder on the memory card.Camera brightness settings can be adjusted, including brightness and whether the “Super Night Vision” feature is active, which makes a considerable difference in recordings at night.Another neat feature is parking mode –if the camera is wired to a source of continuous power, it will keep the camera’s shock sensor on and start recording when a shock to the vehicle is detected. There are various features you can use to prevent battery drain, such as 24/48/72 hour timeouts and low battery input voltage thresholds, and they were even smart enough to include a winter mode with selectable months to raise the battery voltage threshold voltage a bit to ensure you have enough power left for cold starts.The camera has some safety features that counter features built into modern vehicles, such as lane departure and forward collision warnings. If you have a car with these options, this is probably not a huge selling feature, but if you don’t, the functionality is there. There are a few knobs and switches to adjust those, including speed thresholds, sensitivity, etc…The other neat feature is speed camera warnings if you have the GPS antenna installed. You can go to the Thinkware site and download a database file to transfer to the memory card with a list of areas with safety cameras. The camera will provide an audible warning if you are approaching a safety camera so you can take the appropriate action. My area does not contain these, so I have not heard any alerts yet, but it’s nice to know that they should alert me if I pop by one in an unfamiliar area.After all of the bells and whistles, the dashcam is ultimately about recording events and having solid evidence visible enough to discern precisely what happened. Recordings from the front camera in daylight are great – videos are vivid, but license plates are not readable if you’re moving at high speed. The view of the rear camera is similar, but obviously in less resolution. The videos that come off the rear camera in my installation are darker, but I believe this is due to a small amount of window tint in the glass from the manufacturer.All in all, this camera should provide enough quality to give a good picture of what happened in an incident.You can download the videos to your phone via a Wi-Fi connection to the camera or by taking the memory card out of the camera and browsing the file structure on a computer. One minute of front QHD video is about 100 MB, and the rear camera is about 70MB/minute.A few quirks of this unit are that it says, “Please have a safe drive today!” when it’s initially turned on. It’s neat but wears out pretty quickly, and the only way I could find to disable it was to turn the system volume down to 0/Off. The camera also hounded me with a voice alert, reminding me when I forgot to put the memory card in. You will also need to fine-tune the sensitivity on the continuous mode incident recording from the out-of-the-box setting– this system detects incidents while driving. My car has a bit of a firmer suspension, and any bump would cause the camera to beep and record that as an incident.All in all, this is a solid pick for a front and rear dashcam system, and the bundle comes with everything you need to start recording quality footage.

Though a little rough around the edges, the Q200 is a quality dashcam worthy of keeping an eye on your driving, and perhaps keeping you out of hot water.- Unboxing and SetupWith nearly a dozen parts included to accommodate a wide range of applications, setting up the Thinkware Q200 requires viewing the instruction manual. This is unfortunately not included in the box, and the QR codes and web addresses pointed to dead ends on Thinkware’s site. Luckily it’s easy enough to find the Q200 on their support site and obtain a user manual that guides you through the setup process.Thinkware includes both a cigarette lighter power cable for easy installation, and a fusebox power cable for permanent installation. The fusebox power cable is the preferred installation method for continuous power delivery, even when your car’s engine is turned off, but does require professional installation if you’re not familiar with wiring car electronics. Splitting the difference, Thinkware sells an OBD-II power cable separately, which uses your car’s OBD-II port (standard on all cars from model year 1996 forward) to deliver all the functionality of fusebox power with an easier setup - this is the route I chose to install the Q200, and the hardest part of the process was hiding the power cable under trim pieces.The Q200 includes additional window-mount objects for full advanced functionalities. A GPS receiver is intended to mount on the windshield for recording vehicle speed and location data on recordings, and a tiny rear camera is intended to mount on the rear windshield. I was hoping the rear view camera would be integrated into the dash cam for an interior view and less wiring, but both this and the GPS receiver are optional pieces of hardware.Once set up and connected to a smartphone through the DASH CAM LINK software, available for free on both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, a live view can be accessed with overlays for adjusting the aim of the camera.- Dashcam PerformanceThe 1440p sensor on the main unit of the Q200 is a solid camera in all lighting conditions, with enough resolution to make out license plate numbers on vehicles several car lengths away. The wide angle lens captures several lanes’ worth of roadway in front of the car, though it’s not quite wide enough to capture anything approaching the car more off to the side than the front fenders. Image quality in daytime light is good, and nighttime quality is adequate - a good bit of color detail is lost and it will rely on your car’s headlights illuminating vehicles or objects to capture clear recordings, but this should be fine in most circumstances. The 1080p rear camera performs similarly and still provides a clear enough image at the lower resolution, though I did notice performance in low lighting was markedly worse than the front camera, with less exposure compensation to overcome the lack of rear illumination.Where the camera falters a little is in recording quality. Saved video clips have a good bit of compression artifacting, though detail is preserved well enough to make out license plates and retain plenty of visual detail to review later.As with most dash cameras, the Q200 offers continuous recording and a built-in G-sensor can detect an impact to save a clip leading up to and immediately following an impact - 10 seconds in each direction, by default. I found the system worked well but was pretty sensitive, recording 27 clips of my driving over roadway bumps and imperfections in a week, taking up about 1.2GB of memory on the included 32GB microSD card. Extracting saved video clips is as easy as plugging the microSD card into a computer and copying from one of the appropriate folders, of which there’s one each for manually-triggered recordings, automatic (event) recordings, and continuous recordings for the last several minutes or hours of footage, depending on the size of the installed microSD card.An additional feature enabled by permanent installation (or by using the OBD-II power adapter) is a parking (sentry) mode that will record video clips when a motion detection threshold is reached. The camera will detect when the engine is turned off and automatically enter this mode after a moment of inactivity. After leaving my car unattended for a day facing a sidewalk, I found a couple clips of people and pets walking by the car, but did not see any triggering for local wildlife (foxes, skunks) that I know are in the area and frequent the bushes I aimed the car at. I would also assume the low-light scene hindered motion detection performance.- App FeaturesThinkware’s DASH CAM LINK app enables you to change the dashcam’s settings, the first and most important of which was disabling the tinny built-in speaker that reminds you to “have a safe drive today” every time the car turns on. Sensitivity and continuous recording modes can be adjusted, and both stored video clips and a live feed from the cameras can be accessed. Device settings are changed via a Bluetooth connection to the dash cam, and viewing video is done via a temporary WiFi network that the Q200 creates when requested through the app. This may present a security risk as I couldn’t find the WiFi network’s security type or configuration, but at the very least the SSID appears randomized and is not broadcast, so some security through obscurity is better than none at all.The app is surprisingly useful for multi-vehicle households, especially those with multiple drivers. DASH CAM LINK allows registration of up to four dash cams, allowing visibility to each through a single smartphone. Clips can be copied off the dashcam and saved to the phone through the app, eliminating the need to get into the car at all to view stored footage.DASH CAM LINK itself is a little clunky, being slow to initialize and simplistic in its presentation, but it gets the job done.- Bottom LineAny dash cam is better than no dash cam, but Thinkware’s Q200 front and rear solution stands out as a high-coverage, do-it-all dashcam system at a good price. What few criticisms I can level at this dashcam are issues inherent to most dashcams (namely, installation complexity and mediocre low light performance) but overcoming these requires a significant move upmarket that yields diminishing returns. I was hoping the app would work very well, and honestly, for the most part, it does, but it is quite buggy with the Wi-Fi connection. Sometimes the camera will just randomly disconnect after connecting, the download speed of files is a little slow, about 1mb/s.... it takes a good while to load the video files, take a good while to connect. The interface is a little confusing when you are trying to download events, also annoying how you have to download the front and rear files separate, it won't just automatically download both, you have to manually choose both. Settings on the camera are confusing and the app leaves little to be desired in terms of explaining to you what every option means...PARKING MODE:Another reason I had to knock a star off. It is fine for impact detection, but the motion detection feature, holy moly does it not work well. I set it to the lowest setting of motion detection, parked in the GARAGE and some how it decided to record 25 events overnight, with literally nothing happening in all of them. Pretty buggy, not impressed at all with that, almost invalidates parking mode. Maybe it needs a firmware update in the future to address that issue but the motion detection quite frankly sucks and will eat your entire memory card in an hour. And then when you get in the car, your camera will yell at you over and over "INSUFFICNENT MEMORY FOR MOTION RECORDING" until you turn the car on.Overall, its a good entry level starter front/rear dashcam combo. It is better than most on the market in this price range and despite its flaws, delivers good quality imagery and gives me peace of mind when I drive.

I found the most value from this cam in monitoring a teenage driver, but can see this as a good option for most needs such as accident investigations, parking lot events, and the entertainment value from other drivers.In the box is the front camera with a microsd card installed, rear camera and mount (one piece), GPS receiver, windshield mount, three power options (12v power cable, OBDll power cable, fuse panel power cable), wiring harness, trim tool, and mounting tape.The installation is highly customizable, if you aren't comfortable with removing trim to run wires, you can easily power the dash cam off of the 12V accessory port power cable. You could also run the rear camera without dropping the headliner to run the wires, but cable management is a bit messy, pending vehicle type. The other customizable aspect is that you can run only the front camera, with GPS and rear camera as optional, pending your needs. If you use the full kit, you'll have a power wire coming from either OBDll port, fuse panel, or accessory port, a short (~8") cable from front camera to the GPS receiver, and a very long cable from front camera to rear camera. The differences in the power connections used determines if the camera will monitor when the car is off / parked, and while on, or only when the car is on.Setup is intuitive, however if you need to view the manual, the easiest way to get help files is to install the companion Thinkware Dash Cam app. The app allows for settings adjustment, user guide, support, and live view or playback of files, more on the app below. For this specific vehicle, I mounted the front camera mount directly behind the rearview mirror, with the GPS receiver adhered directly above it, and used the trim tool to press the wiring through the channel under the headliner and down the column. The front camera slides into place on the mount, with enough force to ensure the camera footage does not bounce independent of the vehicle. Ideally you'll power on and use the live view from the camera to assist in mounting placement. To do this, install the Thinkware app, power on the camera, and pair then follow the in app alignment guidance.The app is ok, a bit slow to connect to the dash cam, but overall intuitive and works as expected. Options within the app are settings, dash cam info, live view, video library, user manual, and resource center. Unfortunately the smartphone must be connected to the cam while powered to see live view, adjust settings, or review the video library, unless you have downloaded a file. This is fairly typical of the majority of the dash cam apps out there, so not necessarily a negative. The upside is that the app allows a lot of customization in the type of events that are recorded, sensitivity, night vision, thermal protection, battery protection, and voice. I was not a fan of the different verbal notifications such as every time it connects / disconnects from the app, or the "Have a safe drive" comment every time the vehicle is started, luckily, voice can also be disabled. See photos for details of app settings.Lastly is the playback. If you are connect to the camera via the app, you can access the file library or view the camera feed real time. If you want to have files available when not connected, you must download them via the app or transfer files via the microsd card to your computer. I tried both, the process works well, but I didn't find that the desktop interface added much value, other than seeing the recording on a larger monitor. See photos for examples of both interfaces.The cam records a file every minute, and will output two files, a front and rear view, with the same time stamps. Note that the GPS receiver is required to have a speed stamp added to the recording files. If a rear cam is not connected, the software will automatically only list one file. The playback files are of 2k resolution, time / date / speed stamped, with enough details to decipher license tags that are near by, details alongside roads, and identifying details of people walking within a few feet of the front or rear of the vehicle (pending cam placement). See photos for examples of front and rear resolution.Overall, I found that I really like this dash cam for recording a newly licensed teenage driver. I mounted the rear cam on the dash pointing back at the driver, so it was easy to review any unexpected front camera images such as swerving, files where there were incident flags, or "I have no clue where that car came from" statements and the corelating rear camera images of what the driver was doing at the time these events occurred, as well as date, time, and speed. If you don't have a teenage driver, lucky you, but this is still a great cam for peace of mind if an accident occurs or keep watch over your vehicle when parked.

So I’m happy with the no screen/just two physical buttons approach.I will note that that the Q200 records video in one-minute increments, and there doesn’t seem to be an option to change that. It probably reduces the likelihood of problems with the recordings, but it also means it can take a bit to navigate through all of the recordings to find what you’re looking for. That said, all of the recordings have the date and time in their filenames, so if you know *when* you’re looking for, you should be able to find *what* you’re looking for.Also, I’m still getting used to the various beeps that go along with the safety features and what each one means. For now, I have the volume set somewhat low and just assume a beep means something I should be taking note of, which is better than nothing.Overall, the Q200 is a helpful dash cam that nicely captures my experiences on the road, both forward and back, in daylight or at night time. I’m happy with it and would recommend it to others.

I thought to configure and install it would be rocket science. However if I knew how easy it was to install and configure it, I would’ve gotten one a long time ago, and honestly, the installation was easier than I thought. Once its installed, you don’t need to do anything else, the camera does everything that you have previously set up. So, let’s say basically it is a matter of trust. The camera by itself will record videos of the events you have set up in the app, either while on movement, car accident, or while in Parking Surveillance Mode by sensing movement in front or rear camera or sense a hit. By default, it will record 15secs before and after the event, and you can adjust these setting on the app.Thinkware has been in the market for a long time and has a good reputation for been reliable and efficient. This is an entry level 2 channel model, which means that you can have access to the unit through the app while you are close to the camera with your cell phone, first through the BT connection and finally through WIFI, so you can have a live view, but while you are doing that the recording will be disable. If the Camera is within the WIFI range, you can always reach the camera. My room is just above the driveway where I park my car, and I was able to get a live view of the cameras while the camera was on. So, it has good range. The way you can see the videos is either through the app, or by taking the SD card out and using your computer to see the videos that are recorded in the SD Card. There is also a SW for either Windows PC or Mac that you can download and check the videos. But for what I was looking for, I mean, to sense, capture, and record videos of surrounding or crash events, this bundle is more than enough. On other higher-level models, you can have the Thinkware Connected Cloud service, GPS Integrated antenna, and even a screen. You can also buy a separate Battery so your car battery will not be depleted in case of extreme activity while in Parking Surveillance mode. There is also a setting in the app where it will disable the camera function when the battery goes down to a preset minimum voltage previously set threshold.The unit comes with the mounts, mounting tape, for both the rear and front camera, a 32Gb Sd Card, and external GPS Antenna, and the 3 hardwiring cable options.The included external GPS antenna, will track your speed and the videos will show your distance information, and other features that are tied to some of this new terminology that I learned like ADAS.ADAS is comprised of 4 Alerts. Front Vehicle Departure Warning, Front Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning, and Forward Collision Warning. You can set up those, however many cars are including this kind of features so I will only use the video record events feature.Things that I like the most, you don’t need to get any subscription for services or features, like some other brands. With Thinkware you have all the features you need for what you paid. Both Cameras looks great, the size, the simplicity to install, configure and use the app. Other brands I have seen the camera are bigger, but this one from the interior has a size that feels comfortable to the eye. It’s easy to install and to understand the different concepts involved with Dash Cam, intuitive. And basically, with some minor changes for my personal preference, I just let the system work with the preset settings and that will do the work. 2K resolution video is more than enough for me, and that saves storage space. You can clearly get the license plate number of the other cars either front or rear. For night events, it uses super night vision 2.0 technology, this feature will be active either when you are driving, or while it’s in Parking Surveillance Mode. So, I was able to see clearly at night even in full darkness. It comes with a 32GB SD card, that is a plus, and it can go up to 256GB. Colors and video capture response are great, and the Thinkware Dash Cam Link App is intuitive and super easy to install and adjust the settings. To be honest, of all the apps with BT and WIFI related configuration devices I have installed so far, this one was the smoothest.The first thing I recommend to do is to download the manual. It can be downloaded from the THINKWARE web site, and take your time reading it, it won’t take more than 10 min, but it is worth it, because you will have a better idea on how it works and how to proceed.The one I have got is the bundle, that comes with everything you need to finish the installation and put it to work. For the wiring that is needed to power on the device, it comes with 3 options, a 12-volt Car Charger where you can easily start using the camera asap, but you won’t have the “Parking Surveillance mode” feature, the Hardwiring cable and OBD-II Power Cable for an easy plug and play connection. I went with the Hardwiring cable, and it was not too hard to identify the correct fuses in the fuse box and attach the Battery and ACC connector of the cable to the fuse, the Instruction Manual explains well how to do it on pages 12-13. With a multimeter or a Probe Tester Power Circuit you can identify the fuse that is always powered and the ACC. If you don’t want to attach a cable to the fuse you can get a Fuse tap kit. If you don’t feel confident, an expert can do it for you, I think Best Buy offers this service through the Geek Squad.Then you must decide where exactly you are going to place the camera, so in that way you will know where to route the cable and you also will need to run another cable for the rear camera from the front camera. I was able to do it by myself and I am not an expert in this matter. Basically, you will be hiding the cable into the trim of the car with the trim tool that is provided with this set. But if you don’t want to hardwire you can use the Car Charger Adapter connecting into your cigarette lighter socket and you are good to go.Once you finish the HW installation and put the key ignition on, you will hear a voice saying, “Please have a safe drive today.” From that point, the recording event process will start working. Then you install the APP. You can Scan the QR code located at the right top side of the box, or you can look for the “Thinkware Dash Cam Link” app in the Apple or Play Store. Questions like access to location, pics, and video, Battery Optimizer etc. Then you will select the product you are installing, Q200, Pairing BT process will start. Once it’s found, you will select the Language, Time zone and Country. And finally, it will ask you to download and install the latest firmware. The voice command will tell you that the firmware update process has started and once its finished, finally will tell you “Have a safe Drive.”In the app, you click on the “Connect to Dashcam” on the top right of the app and once its connected you have several options. “Live View”, “Settings” and “Dash Cam info”. With Live View, the first time, it will ask you to align the camera from the hood line view with blue lines for vertical and green for horizonal. Dash Cam will show you the model, name (you can change this one), Memory Size (32GB), and GPS Status. Settings will show you all the main features you want to set, like Camera Sensor sensitivity, Battery Mode, Time to start or stop recording once an event happens, etc. Below these settings, you will find another 3, main page, and probably the most important, the access of the video footage of the front or rear camera. You will see them either in separate view or all view at once, and you can sort them by date or time. And the third one, which looks like a 4-dot square, is to access the support, where you can find the Firmware update tool.You can also record videos manually by pressing the “Rec” button that is located at the back of the camera. The next button, “Wi-Fi” will allow you to connect your camera over Wi-Fi, with your phone. Once its pressed, you will look for on the Wi-Fi list, the Wi-Fi “Thinkware” device. However, this process was fully automated in my case.Another feature that stands out is the Safety Feature “Parking Surveillance Mode” where you can have a 24/7 surveillance for impact and motion recording, with 2 settings to protect your battery life, Smart Parking mode and Energy Saving Mode. The first one will place the camera in battery saving mode either on extreme heat or when the battery is close to cutting off its power, when it reaches the preset threshold, and the second one is when the camera will go on standby mode while on Parking Surveillance Mode only triggered by impacts.If you are like me, and you are looking for a Dash Cam that records and reports events and videos during either day or night, with great image resolution, clear license plate numbers, either while you are commuting or while parked and you are away, with the Safety feature Parking Surveillance mode, your car will be protected 24/7. And all of that at a very affordable price. The Thinkware Q200 is what I was looking for. All I must do is leave the camera to do all the work, and I feel very confident that when I need the video on any unfortunate event, I will find it there in the SD card.
