I spent about 3 months with this joystick playing Star Wars: Squadrons and Elite Dangerous. At the start, there was a few hours of adjustment as I figured out where to rest my hands for maximum comfort and the sensitivity of the different axis. After that time though, my flying abilities dramatically improved. This was my first flight stick and I liked my experience, but it left me wanting more controls. In Elite Dangerous for example, you only have analogue control of a maximum of 5 of the 6 axis with the HOTAS One, and there are so many controls in game that many of your ships functions require a combination of buttons to activate. This was less of a problem with Squadrons because of its 4 degree of freedom(DOF) flight model, but I found myself really craving ... MoreI spent about 3 months with this joystick playing Star Wars: Squadrons and Elite Dangerous. This was less of a problem with Squadrons because of its 4 degree of freedom(DOF) flight model, but I found myself really craving another directional hat switch for shield balancing/power shunting. Ultimately I decided to upgrade to two of Thrustmaster's T16000m sticks.Pros:- Much more accurate flight control than a controller or keyboard and mouse- Cheaper than many other joysticks- Full hand throttle unlike other budget joysticks.- Both the stick and throttle fit well in my average size hands- Adjustable stick tension- Accurate enough sensors on each axis for me- Most buttons are right at your fingertips while in game- Great for 4-DOF flight games- Bump in the middle of the throttle easily helped me find it(this could be a con depending on what games you play)- Natural transition from an Xbox controller, since the buttons are labeled the same(or a ps4 controller for the HOTAS 4 variant)- Software & firmware was simple and didn't get in the way- Stick and throttle can be separated for ergonomics and still only use 1 usb portCons:- It feels like a toy and is 100% plastic- Some of the buttons do not feel high quality, they wobble and are not satisfying to press like those on a well made controller- the stick tends to wobble with large inputs when not connected to the throttle or mounted down- Separating and reconnecting the two parts is not seamless; it is difficult to line up and thread the screws, but you are not likely to do this often, I just left mine together 95% of the time.- I wish there were more buttons, especially another hat switch- Less suitable for 6 DOF space sims- Packaged in messy StyrofoamTL;DROverall, the HOTAS One/4/X is a great way to find out if you will play enough to make the purchase of a stick worthwhile. If you are sure you will keep playing whatever games you are buying this for, I would recommend something in the midrange, like the T16000m, but if you just want to test out a stick, this is the one for you. Also props to B&H for being the only store that regularly refilled stock and sold for MSRP during the pandemic.

I've got a very complex racing wheel and pedal set for my Oculus system, but when I picked up Star Wars Squadrons for my Xbox, I wouldn't even play it since controlling with the Xbox controller was awful. And of course thanks to Microsoft's Flight Sim, HOTAS units were impossible to find forever.I was randomly checking a few places every week or so and was fortunate enough to catch one in stock here at Best Buy, so I snagged it right away. The length of the cord isn't that great, but fortunately I had a USB extension cable from my first Oculus headset, allowing me to get a decent distance from my TV.Fired up the game, and this made ALL the difference. It went from annoying to enjoyable instantly. Not sure how many people would play with the thrust and flight ... MoreI've got a very complex racing wheel and pedal set for my Oculus system, but when I picked up Star Wars Squadrons for my Xbox, I wouldn't even play it since controlling with the Xbox controller was awful. However there's enough cord to separate them and get them comfortably distanced from each other. For me, the bonus is that this is natively recognized by the game so I can SEE what buttons will do what, I didn't have to remap controls or anything.I wish there was a bit more resistance on the throttle stick, but for this price, I'm pleased that it's responsive and works.Buttons are for the most part placed well, just some muscle memory now to train as I start to use it.All in all, for this price, it's light years beyond using the controllers that come with a game system. Definitely NOT worth the scalp prices you find them online, but if you wait like I did and snag it at retail price it's worth it.

Bought this for Ace Combat 7 after being out of the aerial combat game for a while and I’m loving it.Pros: Can be used as one unit or split into a separate throttle and stick so it fits most any space/comfort preference, when used as one unit the cables coil into the base cleanlyStays in place pretty well without any extra adhesiveButton layout is mostly pretty intuitiveCons: almost all parts are plastic, if not the whole thing so it feels a little fragileRudder controls on the throttle are in a slightly weird spotCan’t be screwed into a base as far as I can tell

This product is absolute garbage. Seems great for 1st 3 months, and then it becomes worthless. I’d expect a little more for the price. Thinking maybe a fluke I got a second one being rated so well. Same thing within 3 months. This time I was able to return and replace. Same thing another 3 months later. Wow. Cannot be a coincidence. Not sure how this is rated so well as it seems like a con. What’s wrong with it? At about that 3 month mark flight control starts to produce a slight drift becoming more pronounced. No amount of tightening, loosening and calibration helps resolve the issue unless you feel like taking a new product apart to use. I don’t. I want something of better quality that I pay for. Needless to say maybe. You can live with this drift and need to have ... MoreThis product is absolute garbage. Seems great for 1st 3 months, and then it becomes worthless. Needless to say maybe. You can live with this drift and need to have constant pressure the flight stick. That brings me to going into a sub menu that shakes so bad you can make a selection or takes so long to do do you just go back to a controller. Don’t waste your money.
Purchased for PC. Feels solid, especially if you don’t death grip the controls. A little tough to get working sometimes depending on what you are playing. Works great in Elite Dangerous and Star Wars: Squadrons (although I’m not sure if anyone even plays the later, but the campaign is fun). Putting the throttle and stick on either side of my ten-key-less keyboard is about the perfect spacing, and helps them stay planted. Look for an open-box deal on one of these.
Got this controller on sale and thus far I'm very happy with it. I've never used a HOTAS before, so my opinion is lacking experience with similar HOTAS controllers. I've only used it in MS Flight Simulator on Xbox and PC for a few hours so far, but it's a huge improvement over using an Xbox controller and keyboard. Flying is much easier and much more enjoyable now. The controller feels well built, it's sturdy, and the buttons and stick provide satisfying tactile feedback. I especially like that I can switch between Xbox or PC at the flick of a switch. I would highly recommend this to anyone who wants to try flight simulation on a budget before investing in higher grade controls.
NOTE: I purchased the T Flight HOTAS 4, NOT the HOTAS X. It is the Playstation 4 compatible version which is almost identical in every way, they are effectively the same product when used with a PC (which is the only way I have used it). After only a week or so of use I experienced major issues. I left a review on the page for that product, only for the entire product listing to be completely removed from bestbuy.ca later in the afternoon. It is still not listed as of writing this review. The issues I experienced boiled down to a constant input 'jitter' or drift (with the joystick centred and not being touched, the aircraft will constantly roll to the right). It is still not listed as of writing this review. The issues I experienced boiled down to a constant input 'jitter' or drift (with the joystick centred and not being touched, the aircraft will constantly roll to the right). This started after about a week of use and has not stopped since. From what I understand, a lot of these joysticks suffer from these issues, and there is no real fix. Some users have theirs work flawlessly for years, some contact Thrustmaster customer support and are given a chain of replacements all suffering from identical issues. The software distributed by TM for this joystick also offers no deadzone fine tuning or calibration ability, nor can you remap buttons. It's a non customizable driver set that was last updated more than 2 years ago.Build quality is also relatively mediocre. Feels very much like a toy and not a dedicated input device meant for flight sims.Final thoughts; When it works as intended I honestly really enjoy using it. Besides feeling somewhat flimsy in terms of weight and construction, the spring tension of the stick is adjustable and has a good amount of range from quite loose to surprisingly stiff. The throttle is a little less exciting, there isnt much tactility to it, just a vague feeling of friction. However it has never had any actual issues no I can't say I have any real gripes with it. The big problem is that it often just does not work as intended, and the troubles usually get worse with use.I'd recommend finding something a little more high quality. This may seem like a good cheap HOTAS but for something this niche, 'good' and 'cheap' don't really go together.
On the outset the joystick 'system' is good value for money. However, in practice, the throttle is so loose that it simply falls forward due to gravity if you have the throttle setting more than 65%. The joystick has a resistance setting on the base, but the maximum setting is wholly inadequate.Imagine you're playing DCS World, and you're trying to perform air-to-air refueling. All is going well until you realize you're running about 5 knots too slow to hold station with the tanker, so you nudge the throttle forward. Suddenly, it flops forward under its own weight and the afterburners ignite instantly. The next thing you know you've collided with the tanker and its mission-over.The joystick is also far too slack, even on maximum resistance settings to be useful as ... MoreOn the outset the joystick 'system' is good value for money. It's extremely easy to detach. So when you pick this up, make sure you grab both sections or else one piece may detach and fall to the floor.**Some may like this totally detached which is cool. I like it attached just due to space constraints with my current setup. A ting piece of velco holding these two together can solve this issue a little more
